    Volunteer: Wildlife Care NetworkSpring is just around the corner and that is our busy season at the Wildlife Care Network. Weneed volunteers to help feed the nestling and fledgling birds, orphaned and injured mammals andbirds that are brought to us. This is your chance to get up close to the amazing wildlife in yourown backyard.     - Sunday, May 6, 2007 - Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour- Saturday and Sunday, May 5 and 6 - Native Plant Sale Extravaganza- Saturdays, April 28 and May 5 - Select Tours

    What: Registration for the third annual Bringing Back the Native Garden Tour is now open. The2007 Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour will take place on Sunday, May 6, from 10:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m. This free, self-guided tour showcases 60 pesticide-free, water-conserving East Baygardens that provide habitat for wildlife and contain 30% or more native plants. Two newfeatures will be offered for the first time this year.

    The first, a series of Select Toursexclusive, guided tours of inspirational native plantgardenswill take place on consecutive Saturdays, April 28 and May 5. Gardening experts willlead small groups to selected native plant gardens for an in-depth look at native plantings in a

    variety of settings. The second new Tour feature is the Native Plant Sale Extravaganza, whichwill take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 5 and 6. The Extravaganza sale features nativeplant nurseries many not normally open to the general publicwhich carry large quantities ofhard-to-find California natives.

    Where: The free Bringing Back the Native Garden Tour showcases sixty beautiful gardens innearly two dozen East Bay cities. (These are Alameda, Berkeley, Castro Valley, Clayton,Danville, El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Emeryville, Fremont, Hayward, Hercules, Livermore,Martinez, Moraga, Oakland, Orinda, Pinole, Richmond, San Leandro, Walnut Creek.)

    Cost: The Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour and the Native Plant Sale Extravaganza areboth free. Tickets for the Select Tours will be available for $30 per person, with a limit of 30participants per group.

    Registration: The registration deadline for both the Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour andthe Select Native Garden Tours is April 25 and can be done online atwww.BringingBackTheNatives.net. Both Tours expected to fill up quickly.     Visit a wide assortment of Bay-Friendly Gardens on this FREE, self-guided tour. Over 40 publicand private gardens will be featured throughout Alameda County, including an entirely new cropof gardens! Several of the garden clusters are walkable and/or bikeable.

    This year's tour continues to celebrate the diverse styles of Bay-Friendly gardens. East Bay

    gardeners replace front lawns with vibrant perennials. Children and pets play in organic spacesthat are healthy for the whole family. Backyard orchards complement floweringornamentals and offer delicious fruit. Terraced hillsides provide places to gather and enjoyvisiting butterflies and hummingbirds. Bay-Friendly Gardens offer something for everyone--come and discover ideas for creating your perfect retreat.

    Registration for the tour is required. Registrants will receive a tour guide book with gardendirections and descriptions by mail. Native plants, vegetable starts and Mediterraneanperennials can be purchased at select sites on the tour.

    Online registration and a sneak preview of the 2007 gardens will be posted atwww.BayFriendly.org by Thanksgiving. Volunteers are needed for the day of the tour. Ifinterested, please contact Lawrence Grodeska at [email protected] or 510-614-1699.

    This year's tour continues to celebrate the diverse styles of Bay-Friendly gardens. Bay-Friendly Gardens offer something for everyone--come and discover ideas for creating yourperfect retreat.
