SOCIAL CLUBBy: Julie Seubert

Our Winter Season is beginning to wind down. I hope that you took advantage of all the events held in February. PLEASE read your Newsletter each month for dates and times of events. Based upon the comments I have heard; our residents are having a fun time here this season in Forest Park and Southwest Florida. Besides that little cold spell, the weather certainly can’t be beat. It is great to see people involved and especially the newer faces in the park.

We continue to look for additional items that might

ATTENTION! IMPORTANT INFO

How do we get your attention???? Is anybody reading their newsletter???? There is a lot of information in here. The office and your Social Club Officers get a lot of calls and knocks on their doors asking for tickets or when is the event or meal or dance? Or how and when can I get tickets for an event??

Did you know there is a calendar of ALL EVENTS on the last page?? Yes, we know it is in small print. Get out your magnifying glasses. We have too many events to make the print any bigger. OR go to our WEB PAGE. It is also there, and you can enlarge it!!

ALL EVENTS are also posted on the marque by the clubhouse. Anything you want or need to know -- “IS IN THE NEWSLETTER”.

NOW, IF YOU HAVE READ THIS FAR, PLEASE CONTINUE READING. THERE IS IMPORTANT INFORMATION IN HERE. ESPECIALLY READ THE ARTICLE REGARDING WI-FI!!

be of interest and we also need your feedback. Our next Social Club Meeting will be March 1st after the Koffee Klatsch. As a RESIDENT of Forest Park, YOU ARE ALL MEMBERS OF THE SOCIAL CLUB. Hope to see you at our next meeting.

April will soon be here when our thoughts turn to getting ready to return north to our home there. We have a lot of activities this month, so come on out and enjoy them.

SCHEDULING MEETINGAll Club Directors are invited to attend a meeting to

finalize the 2019-2020 calendar on March 15th at 10:00 in the clubhouse. Please bring your calendar of events for the next season so we can coordinate all events.

ATTENTION TO ALL! Let's work together to solve this problem!

We all understand that when anticipating a dinner or show, we want to sit in certain seats. Let's face it, most of us want to sit close to whatever is happening and with our friends. However, taping plates or paper(s) with "Reserved" or "Names" is causing a real problem for our maintenance staff who have to clean the chairs.

Tape residue is not easy to remove!

If you must reserve seats at a particular event, all clubs are requesting that you DO NOT use tape to mark your spot! Simply place your plates or papers with your names on the tables after the tables have been set up and decorated.

If you put your place markers on the tables before set up, the markers will be removed and placed on the counter in the back of the clubhouse. If someone has already taken the place(s) that you want, please show courtesy by not replacing their place markers with yours. Who knows? You might make a new and interesting friend!

Another way to reserve the spot you want --HELP SET UP THE TABLES AND DECORATE. Anyone can help us set up the tables for an event. Just

call a Social Club Officer to find out what time we are setting up.

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK….. By Mary Kurucz

Oh no…it’s March 2019 already, yet it seems like just days since it was Christmas and New Years Eve. I heard all my life that as you get older, time goes so much faster. Well, did someone forget to tell us where the brakes on this merry-go-round are located?? I want to slow down and enjoy things a bit longer!!! How about you??

Over the past few months I have tried to clarify a few things for our residents such as your responsibilities required upon arriving at the park. Such as signing in and out of Forest Park, updating your paperwork or records of your personal file, like change of addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, registering your pets (dogs and cats even if you live in the pet section). Did you rent your Forest Park home? Fill out the form that you are not there physically there yourself and the names and information of renters. Advise your renters of the park rules and regulations. YOU are responsible for the actions of your guests and renters.

FOR THE VOLUNTEERS OF FOREST PARK….THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL YOUR TIME AND EFFORTS. All of us know that the more hands helping, makes a big or small project successful, not to mention the fun you have working with a group. When you are new to the park, it is a great way to get to know everyone. Without volunteers there would be no dinners, entertainment shows, card games, shuffleboard, bocce, bingo, safety watch, karaoke, craft club, quilt club, pool exercise classes, stretch and tone exercise, Bible Study, Computer Club, our web site and FREE WI-FI or this Newsletter. Forest Park would not be the enjoyable place to live and things to do without our volunteers.

THANK YOU AGAIN TO ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS!!!!

The Board of Officers and Directors want you to have the very best Month of March in Forest Park ever.

The WI-FI fiber upgrade to 1GB went well and our performance has improved greatly. We are using 500 GB a day. Our next project is to educate the users who have smart TVs. If you are streaming in High Definition, we ask you to use normal definition because you use up to 3 times the data using HD. You can hardly notice the difference looking at the TV. The way that you selected the definition is in the setup of Roku, Netflix, Hulu, Sling, etc. Be sure to shut off your TV when not in use. If we all do this, we can all have a better internet connection.

BIBLE STUDYBy Laura Esters

The Ladies’ Bible Study Group meets weekly on Thursday mornings from 10:00 A.M. to noon. Our members are women from various churches and/or denominations. We have refreshments, a time for sharing our concerns, prayer and a study, which is taught from both the Old and New Testaments by Laura Esters.

As so many new folks have moved into our park, we believe it is important to let our residents know about this activity as well as all the other organizations that the park offers. We do not espouse any specific theology but are a group of Christian women who enjoy making friends, encouraging and supporting each other as the needs arise, and learning about the Bible.

During the months of November to April we meet at the home of Reva Doliana,849 Hollyberry Court. From May to October, Waneta Schafer opens up her house to us at 344 Shrub Lane S. Just come to the door and walk in---we’ll be glad to welcome you! If you have any questions, please call Reva at 812-322-3986, Waneta 239-219-7593 or Laura at 239-210-8010.

Again, a BIG THANK YOU to ALL of you who have donated items through the season for our craft sale.

2020 CARRIBEAN CRUISEBy Phil Power

Watch the boards for more information coming out about a CARRIBEAN CRUISE next year. A meeting sometime in the middle of March will be scheduled to tell you all about the places the ship will visit. The price will include good perks, good prices and a bus to transport everyone from Forest Park to the ship. Come out and find out about a 2020 cruise.

Computer Club2018 – 2019 Season

All New and Old Residents Welcome! The Computer Club is a group of friendly people

who meet every Thursday, 2 - 4 PM to help each other with computer issues. If you have a problem related to computers, or a skill you think might benefit others, YOU ARE WHO WE NEED IN OUR CLUB! Please come and join the group. A donation of $10/household per winter season would be appreciated to help with meeting expenses, new equipment etc. We take a break and have coffee and cookies around 3 PM to socialize.

Most members use Windows, but some use Linux or Macs and most software programs are compatible with each system. Each week, we usually have a person show something they are experienced in, or something interesting we have seen maybe online or in an article. If anyone is having a problem, we ask them to bring their unit to the club meeting, then we will focus on that problem. In many cases, the club can help fix the problem.

If not, we can usually define the situation in cases where professional help is needed. If you have a particular need, or problem that you would like help with, please come along and join us, but try and let us know in advance so we can schedule it for that week’s meeting.

We need people who are familiar with Tablets and Cell Phones who would volunteer to do some instructing or help others during our sessions. We have cables for iPads that will allow them to be connected to our projector.

Since “Cutting the Cable” is becoming more and more popular, we need people who are familiar with internet TV to give us their experience. So please join us!

The Computer Club can no longer accept old computers, printers or other old equipment. If you have any items you wish to recycle, please check with us before leaving them in the activities building. Hope Chest won’t accept them, so they can be put out with your garbage and will be recycled through our electronic recycler. Make sure you wipe your hard drive on any computer. We can help you with this, if you are not sure of how to do it. Thanks for your co-operation on this, Sherrill

LIBRARYAs you may have noticed we have juggled things

around a bit. There have been many new books donated and as a result we have weeded out older books to make room. Don’t worry, none of these were thrown out we brought them to Goodwill.

Please donate any older books or cookbooks you may have to either Goodwill or the Hope Chest thrift store.

MAH JONGG By Gail Ford

Mah Jongg meets on Wednesdays from 1 to 3 PM. Come join us for a fun challenging time. We are all beginners so don’t be shy.

MEXICAN TRAIN DOMINOESBy Sheila Fitzgerald

We play Mexican train dominoes on Monday morning at 9:00 at the club house. Everyone is welcome to join in. It’s an easy game to learn if you have never played and we have a lot of laughs as we play. We would love to have some new members join us.

Also, I have had a request from two people recently to look into starting a second group that would play at 10:00 rather than 9:00, so they can get their morning exercise or swim in before the game. We would certainly consider this if there is enough interest.

We’re a very informal group, with no permanent commitment required. Just come by on any Monday morning and give it a try.

NORTH EAST CLUBBy Barb Wood

A little bit of Las Vegas right here in Forest Park gave all of us that attended another fun night out with good friends, good food, music by Tony and Lori and fun! Some people were even WINNERS at the games of chance. Thank you, Bob, Gail, Pam, Rose and your team of wonderful volunteers for a job well done!

Coming up on the 25th, we’ll have our Red Neck Country ball. The night is being hosted by Nancy Cooper, Chris Major and their team of volunteers. So, get your tickets early and come on out.

As always - BYOB, bring your place setting and as always, your ticket. No ticket, no food!

April we’ll be having our annual picnic hosted by your club board members and of course their volunteers.

As you all know we are soon coming to the end of

another season. Many of the Snowbirds will soon be packing up and heading back north for the Summer. But before they go, we need ideas for next year’s events and volunteers to chair them. Put on your thinking caps and come up with something you think might be fun to do and don’t be afraid to sign up to host one of the events!

RED NECK COUNTRY BALLMarch 25, 20195:30 P.M.

Join your Northeast Club members for a night of Boot Scooting Boggie!

Enjoy a fried chicken dinner (what else?) with all the fixings. Then get ready to sing and swing your partner to the music of Jerry B who promises to put on a show to make all Red Necks wish they were there!

Tickets cost a mere $10 bucks for the dinner and ball. These can be bought at the February meeting or from Nancy Cooper, 734 Knotty Pine Circle. You don’t want to miss out on this one so be sure to get your tickets before March 22nd.

SEENAGER MOMENT• I am a Seenager, (Senior teenager)• I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only

50 years later.• I don’t have to go to school or work.• I get an allowance every month. • I have my own pad.• I don’t have a curfew.• I have a driver’s license and my own car.• I have ID that gets me into bars and the wine store. • The people I hang around with are not scared of

getting pregnant, they aren’t scared of anything, they have been blessed to live this long, why be scared.

• And I don’t have acne.• Life is good!! Also, you will feel much more

intelligent after reading this, if you are a Seenager.• Brains of older people are slow because they know

so much!• People do not decline mentally with age, it just takes

them longer to recall facts because they have more information in their brains. Scientists believe this also makes you hard of hearing as it puts pressure on your inner ear.

• Much like a computer struggles as the hard drive gets full, so too, do humans take longer to access information when their brains are full.

Page 17: March 2019 Forest Park Newsletterforestparkonline.com/news/2019-03 Newsletter.pdf · things for our residents such as your responsibilities required upon arriving at the park. Such

• Also, older people often go to another room to get something and when they get there, they stand there wondering what they came for. It is NOT a memory problem, it is nature’s way of making older people do more exercise.

JOKES Humor1. I didn’t make it to the gym today. That makes 1,500

days in a row!2. I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and

renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

3. Dear paranoid people who check behind shower curtains for murderers. If you find one, what’s your plan?

4. Everyone has a right to be stupid. Some just abuse the privilege.

5. I’m not saying let’s go kill all the stupid people. I’m just saying let’s remove all the warning labels and let the problem work itself out.

6. You can tell a lot about a woman’s mood just by her hands. If they are holding a gun, she’s probably pissed.

7. Gone are the days when girls cooked like their mothers. Now they drink like their fathers.

THE PRICE OF GASOLINE IN FRANCE –

A THIEF in Paris planned to steal some paintings from the Louvre.

After careful planning, he got past security, stole the paintings and made it safely to his van. However, he was captured only two blocks away when his van ran out of gas.

When asked how he could mastermind such a crime and then make such an obvious error, he replied.

“Monsieur, that is the reason I stole the paintings.”I had no Monet to buy Degasto make the Van Gogh”See, if you have De Gaulle tosend this on to someone else.I sent it to you because I figured I had nothing Toulouse.

8. You know that tingly little feeling you get when you really like someone you’ve just met? That’s common sense leaving your body.

9. I don’t like making plans for the day. Because then the word “premeditated” gets thrown around in the courtroom.
