SOCIAL CLUBBy: Julie Seubert

WELCOME BACK!! Or if this is your first year in Forest Park, a big FIRST TIME WELCOME!! I trust that everyone had a great last few months whether you stayed here in Forest Park or you traveled to other locations. I have heard that it’s been a hot and humid summer in Florida. Well, it’s been cold and rainy here in Wisconsin. The only nice month we had was July!!

Lots of activities are getting started this month and your Social Club Officers are excited to begin our new season. Please review the calendar to find the event that you wish to participate in and find the scheduled date and time. Also look for information in future newsletters.

We started out with our Halloween Party – I hope everyone had a Spooktacular time.

Our first event for November is our Famous Hot Dog Dinner beginning on November 4th at 5:30. Karaoke will again start up beginning at 6:00. On November 11th our Veterans Day event will be held. November 21st is our visit to the Sugar Cane Fields. On November 27th the Craft Club invites anyone who would like to help decorate the inside of the Clubhouse and on November 29th you are all invited to help decorate the outside of the Clubhouse and grounds.

The holiday season is fast approaching. As we begin to make plans and preparations for celebrations with family and friends, I’d like to say Thank You for living with our community spirit, and we look forward to a winter season full of much to be thankful for.

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENTBy: Mary Kurucz, President

Hello from Forest Park to all our residents. Quite a few residents have returned already due to chill up north. We are still having 80- and 90-degree weather, HOWEVER THE WONDERFUL GULF BREEZE makes it more comfortable.

By now I hope everyone has heard about the picture directory being organized. I find it very embarrassing when talking to people and I remember their face but can’t remember their name. LET’S HELP PUT FACE AND NAME TOGETHER.

REMINDER: All who get their pictures taken by photographer get a FREE 8 x 10 picture and a free copy of the directory. To make it much easier we have appointment times in November and then again more in March. Call the office and schedule your time slot for the November scheduling (pictures will back by Christmas.) Times for March pictures being taken will be announced at a later date. And the picture directories will be here before the snowbirds return up North.

The other evening, I drove around several communities

in our local area, looking around for possible ideas to improve Forest Park. I must be prejudice but Forest Park was the best I saw. Thanks to our two maintenance men Joe Flores and Ivan Taylor. You two are the best, your work shows your love for the park and it is not just a job. Ken Parsels and his wife Joyce painted all the yellow and white lines on our streets and parking spaces around buildings. Ken, you better take real good care of your wife; not many women would assist in this large project in 80- 90 degrees temperature, she is a real keeper.

Volunteers make this park “SPECIAL”. Recently, the

need for volunteers was announced at our meeting in the spring and also on our social meeting sites. The response was wonderful. We had a group that worked diligently on our rules and regulations this summer and propose changes in language to clarify and update the document.

On the personal level, HELPING HANDS, we have had safety watch checking out things at night. If everyone would help them by putting the “green tree stickers” on your cars, it would identify that you belong in the park. Our Helping Hands program is a great help your neighbor kind of thing and we need more volunteers for that. So far, a neighbor was helped trimming a bush out of control, taking a neighbor who did not own a golf cart for a golf cart ride around the park and one really good neighbor

helped unload a whole rental truck. And I’m sure there are many more I don’t know about. We have a list of volunteers at the office, call the office if you wish to join the list and specify type of things you would be willing to do.

Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.

WELCOME HOME FRIENDS…….PLEASE stop by the office to sign in and provide

any updates. This becomes very important during an emergency or with issues concerning your property in Forest Park. We look forward to seeing everyone back in the park!!

HEALTH AND WELFAREBy Mary Gibson

Bloodmobile will be here Saturday, November 16th from 10:00 to 2:00. Watch for sign-up sheet in the back of the Clubhouse.

SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN!

But before he arrives, your Forest Park elves need to get to work. Nothing gets us into the holiday spirit like decorating…you know -- dragging boxes, tangled lights, broken ornaments, etc.!! You too can be a part of all this fun by helping to put up our annual Christmas decorations. The plan is to gather on the clubhouse grounds on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 29TH AT 9:00 A.M.

Please put this date on your calendar and plan to join us as we create a Christmas panorama in sunny Florida. If there is a change of date, it will be announced on the large notice board outside on our clubhouse lawn. AND an e-mail blast will be sent. WE NEED YOUR HELP…WE CAN’T DO IT ALONE! If you have any questions you can call me at 724-689-5175.

HOLIDAY DINNERHosted by Social Club

CHRISTMAS PARADEHosted by Jill and Ivan Taylor & Social Club

It’s never too early to start planning for the holidays!! This years’ Christmas Golf Cart Parade will be held on Monday, December 23rd.

Start making your plans on how you’ll be decorating your “sleigh” for the night that brings out the inner-child in all of us. Watch the December Newsletter for more information.

The WI-FI operation system, at the clubhouse, has been completed. Jim has completed many antennas, but as users return, they will be updated remotely. The majority of users in the park are on the new 5G system, which means that we will be adding 2 more 5G antennas at the clubhouse in the near future. We will continue to support the older 2G system. Again, a real big thank you to Jim Schleter and Gerry Bauer for keeping the system up and running all this time. The WI-FI Guys

FOREST PARK WEB SITE:By: Jan Harmon, WebmasterWeb Site www.forestparkonline.com

The new www.forestparkonline.com website is up and running with many changes in format.

FPPOA members in good standing can obtain a user name and password for the Members Only page by contacting the office by phone at 239-543-1155 or email [email protected] . Be sure to make a note of your username and password and keep it in a secure location. Should you forget your password you will be directed to a page to change your password. You will still need the same username, that does not change. Using that information, you then click on the Members Only Icon on the home page and a form will open to type your username and password. (You will have the option to check “remember me”. Assuming you do this, and use the same computer, you should not have to type that information in the next time you log on.) You will then be able to access all the documents on the Members Only link.

You will notice the new web pages have “drop down menus” at the top of the page. If you mouse over the topics a sub-menu will open with other options of pages that are available.

The GALLERY has photos taken by Joe Flores. His latest shots of the flora and fauna in the park are there for your enjoyment. Be sure to take a look at this page.

SOCIAL CLUBS tab has information of all the clubs in the park and contact data for same. I have added some data relevant to the 2019-20 season. If you know of changes to this page, or have information regarding next seasons schedule, please be sure to contact me with the updates.

The SERVICES link has much information on the services provided by the park.

We hope that you continue to use the site, share with friends interested in living here, and enjoy keeping up with all the happenings while you are at your “summer” residence.

As always, suggestions and corrections can be directed to [email protected].

Members can click on a link in the members only section of website to book or call the office to make an appointment. There will be another session in March. Dates will be posted later.

CHRISTMAS GIFTS OF CHEERBy Nancy Cooper

I am still in Maine, but my helpers are in Forest Park and are ready and willing to pass out gifts and make someone’s Christmas a bit happier. Baskets of fruit and cookies, bags of food or a box of sympathy gifts is given to folks who need a bit of cheer, those who are 90 or over and people who could use a little help getting groceries.

Last year over 50 gifts were delivered to Forest Park residents thanks to the generous support of the Social Club, the Northeast Club, the Craft ladies, the Shuffle Club and gifts given in memory of a former resident or loved one. This year many gave in memory of Leo Bedard who passed in May.

If you know of someone who could use some Christmas Cheer, please tell a member of the committee or give me a call. (207-632-7544) The gifts are given to any resident regardless of what he or she may have in their pocketbook for we all know money cannot buy happiness or keep one from heartbreak.

Committee members are Chris Major, Carol Goans, Nancy and Pete Lawrence, Mary Gibson, Delores Homes, Kathy and Mike Fanning, Madeline Preston and Dena Sams. Ann Teal is also joining the elves this year.

CHRISTMAS TOY DRIVEHosted by Pam Salk

Once again, I will be hosting the Toy Drive and I am asking the generous hearts of our Forest Park Family to donate to the children in the Suncoast Community. We have been collecting toys for this most needed cause for many years. Please bring unwrapped toys to my home at 5350 Forest Park Drive by December 9th. There will be a small toy box in my carport to place the gifts in. We will then take them to the Suncoast Community Center that week where the parents will be able to come and pick out gifts for their children.

P.S. Stuffed toys are not very popular, and items for teens are the most needed. There are approximately 240 children from infant to 17 in this community. Thank you in advance for your gifts. This park has always amazed me with its great generosity.

Trash, Horticulture & Waste Disposal Reminder….

Just a refresher on our Rules & Regulations for trash, horticulture and waste disposal...• Trash bags which weigh more than 30 lbs. will not be picked up.• Trash bags must be tied, or they will not be picked up.

• Horticulture must BE IN PAPER SACS; NOT PLASTIC TRASH BAGS. as those are not permitted by Waste Pro to be in the dumpster.

• Loose horticulture clippings must be 4 feet or less, tied & bundled & not more than 30 lbs.

• Cardboard should go out on Wednesdays with recyclables.

• Any outside contractor doing work at your home - tree trimming, lawn maintenance, home remodeling/repairs MUST haul off their own trimming and refuse. It will not be picked up by our maintenance crew.

The full list of rules is available on our website at www.forestparkonline.com, or you may contact the office if you have any questions.

THE PARK HAS BEEN INFORMED BY WASTE PRO that plastic bags are no longer accepted in our horticulture dumpster effective immediately. PLEASE DO NOT place any plastic bags in the horticulture dumpster, or the park will be charged a higher rate for disposal. ALL horticulture must be in paper sacs/bags or tied & bundled. If you put it in plastic bags, our staff has to open up the bags and empty them in the bin. We appreciate your help with this problem.

HAZARDOUS WASTELee County has very strict regulations regarding

hazardous material disposal. The Board voted to approve the initiative to have all residents place paint, pesticides, chemicals, florescent bulbs and gas bottles at curbside.

Park employees will pick up these materials on Tuesday and Friday and log them in. These articles will be stored and disposed of in the appropriate manner by staff members.

The rules and regulations have been changed to reflect the process.

GREEN TREE STICKER There is a little green tree sticker available

in the office that goes on the LEFT SIDE OF YOUR BACK WINDOW of your car. All residents with automobiles should have this highly visible authorization to be in the Park. This will help the safety patrol on their nightly rounds. If you are temporary resident and don’t want any stickers on your window, them scotch tape it there while you are here.

RECYCLE BLUE BIN The blue bin is used for all other types of

re-cycling such as paper, metal, plastic, etc. This is a separate Program from our regular trash that is picked up on Tuesdays and Fridays. The re-cycle truck comes on Wednesdays.

BOOK CLUBBy Gail Ford

Our first Book Club meeting will be on Friday November 15 at 1PM in the Pool Room. Our first book will be "Have You Seen Louis Velez" by Catherine Ryan Hyde. I checked the Lee County Library and they have 6 copies. I haven't even finished it and am enjoying it very much.

Please bring a list of books you love for the Dec through March season. We should pick them in advance, so we are able to request copies from the library. We have already read most of the books that are in the library Book Discussion kits.

COMPUTER CLUBBy: Sherrill Wright

2019-2020 SEASON

Our first meeting for this year is November 21, 2019 at 2:00 PM.

The Computer Club is a group of friendly people who meet in the Billiard/Board room every Thursday, 2-4:00 PM to help each other with computer issues. If you have a problem related to computers, or a skill you think might benefit others, YOU ARE WHO WE NEED IN OUR CLUB! Please come join the group. A donation of $10.00 per household per winter season would be appreciated to help with meeting expenses, new equipment, etc. We take a break and have coffee and cookies around 3:00 to socialize.

Most members use Windows, but some use Linux or Macs and most software programs are compatible with each system. Each week, we usually have a person show something they are experienced in, or something interesting we have seen maybe online or in an article. If anyone is having a problem, we ask them to bring their unit to the club meeting, then we will focus on that problem. In many cases, the club can help fix the problem. If not, we can usually define the situation in cases where professional help is needed. If you have a particular need, or problem that you would like help with, please come along and join us, but try and let us know in advance so we can schedule it for that week’s meeting.

We need people who are familiar with Tablets and Cell Phones who would volunteer to do some instructing or help others during our sessions. We have cables for iPads that will allow them to be connected to our projector.

Since “Cutting the Cable” is becoming more and more popular, we need people who are familiar with internet TV to give us their experience. So please join us!!

For further information contact Sherrill or John Wright @ 2393493827, email [email protected] WiFi – Doug Ford – 239-731-2028 or Jim Schleter at 239-543-4681.

LADIES BIBLE STUDYBy Laura Esters

The Ladies’ Bible Study Group meets weekly on Thursday mornings from 10:00 A.M. to noon. Our members are women from various churches and/or denominations. We have refreshments, a time for sharing our concerns, prayer and a study, which is taught from both the Old and New Testaments by Laura Esters.

As so many new folks have moved into our park, we believe it is important to let our residents know about this activity as well as all the other organizations that the park offers. We do not espouse any specific

theology but are a group of Christian women who enjoy making friends, encouraging and supporting each other as the needs arise, and learning about the Bible.

During the months of November to April we meet at the home of Reva Doliana, 849 Hollyberry Court. From May to October, Laura Esters opens up her house for us at 340 Shrub Lane South. Just come to the door and walk in---we’ll be glad to welcome you! If you have any questions, please call Reva at 812-322-3986 or Laura at 239-210-8010.
