STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: The Governing Council meeting of Jammu and Kashmir Ex-Services League (JKESL) was held here on Sunday at Zila Sainik Welfare Complex Amphalla. During the meeting, many problems facing by the Ex- Servicemen were discussed as they feel totally ignored in the State for the last 70 years. "The issue of Sainik Colony Srinagar was highlighted which was accepted by the former Chief Ministers and even the area allotted near the airport at Srinagar. However it was denied by the former Chief Minister, Mehbooba and till date there is no progress. Similarly two housing colonies sanctioned at Jammu by the then Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah in1997 have not seen the light of the day even after 20 years," the veterans said. "The Ex-Servicemen are harassed for issue/renewal of weapon licenses, six percent entitled reservation in jobs are not given particularly in the police. Not a single soldier has found enrolment in the police for the last 35 years when the police force has increased from 35,000 to nearly one lakh. No State level facilities like job and education reservation for wards are available to war widows, war wounded and the brave warriors who are paid poor annuities far lower than the other states like Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh," they said. Finding no hope in the elected leaders, the ex-ser- vicemen are now pinning their hopes on the Governor Satya Pal Malik who has taken some hard decisions recently and implemented them with speed. The members present in the meeting briefed the executive members of central body regarding forthcoming compi- lation, counter-signature of results of schools which are affiliated to the JKBOSE as all of them are still deprived of recognition on the basis of affiliation by the educational authorities of the State. They also highlighted the problem of private schools of district Kathua in depositing Red Cross and Games Fund as the administration of District Kathua is putting whimsical demand of 100 per cent con- tribution from the private schools functioning in the dis- trict. To comfort the sufferer members, Ajay Gupta, General Secretary of Association said that associa- tion has approached to Education Department time and again for the issuance of recognition letter to all schools whose affiliation is extended by the JKBOSE since 2018. Quoting the reference of all orders since 1986 to till date, he said it is unjust for the pri- vate schools of district Kathua as elsewhere there is uniformi- ty in percentage to be collected by the department for as Red Cross and Games Fund in all districts of the entire State. Kamal Gupta demanded immediate issuance of grant of recognition letters on the basis of affiliation to all private schools to eradicate corruption and promote single window clearance system. He also demanded the correction in government order no 108 Education of 2018 dated February 1, 2018 which was issued by the Secretary to the Government School Education Department for the govern- ment schools regarding collec- tion and deposit of games and Red Cross funds.
