BESTIJARIJUM MARIJE TOŠKOVIĆ
„…Moje oko je suviše blizu mene…I nisam ono što vidim…”
Bestijarijum Marije Tošković doživljavam kao umjetničku „polemiku” sa svijetom u pokušaju njegovog razotkrivanja, odgonetanja zapretanih kodova postanka/nestanka, rastakanja… u nešto što je nalik…što poprima obrise, asocira na ljudsko-životinjsku simbiozu, na neraskidivu vezu/ nit sa animalnim, instinktivnim, sa životom…
Vjerujem da djelimo iskustvo pogleda koje rezultira čitanjem životinjskog u ljudskom liku, izrazu, grimasi…kroz direktna poređenja i dodjeljivanja karakternih epiteta…Taj kontemplativni otklon u svijet bestijarijumskih, fluktuirajućih formi koje bestežinski lebde, rone, plove beskrajnim prostranstvima nepoznatog Marija koristi kao kontrapunkt za esencijalna pitanja KO SMO…ŠTO SMO..KUDA IDEMO…
Provokativna igra identitetima ukazuje na njihovu konzistentnu promjenljivost, na poprimanje željenih, na konstruisanje lažnih, na konstantnu dihotomiju ljudskog i životinjskog u čovjeku.
Gdje se krije granica koju ne smijemo preći, koji limiti naših izazova ne dozvoljavaju da prevlada bestijalno, zarad očuvanja ljudskog…Marija nas lakoćom svoje krivudave, zmijolike linije provlači kroz koloplete vlastitih promišljanja bestijalnog svijeta, koji je, sasvim izvjesno, postao nesigurno, neizvjesno tle, „mutna voda” u kojoj da biste plivali morate ovladati posebnom „fenomenologijom disanja”.
Ljudi maske, duhovi, sjenke, amorfne, hibridne, lelujave, bestežinske, forme, polu ljudi, polu životinje –ljudi ribe, ljudi ptice, odljuđeni ljudi besciljno tumaraju u panici, beznađu, začudu… mimoilaze se, susreću, prepliću u strahu, odsustvu empatije, u odsustvu sebe…
Umjetnica odvaja lice/masku od tijela-ta potreba za distancom pogleda, za fizičkim otklonom ne bi li se zadobila objektivna vizura perceptivnog poimanja produkuje multiplicirana lica, dvoglave spodobe, repetitivne slike koje ne želimo da vidimo… Rudimentarni organi, udovi, pokreću isprazne, ameboidne strukture koje se niotkuda pojavljuju. Ipak, prisutna je neraskidiva korelacija… ne možemo pobjeći od sebe raznih, drugačijih, animalnih, vlastitog arhetipa.
Zavodljivo migoljenje Marijine linije, obujma i tvori nova lica – prototipe karaktera, sakupljenih u svojevrsan katalog mnemografskih zapisa, lucidnih, iskričavih iskoraka u nedodirljivi svijet nepoznatog…
Ovaj krivudavi, lelujavi „onirički delirijum” zapravo je opomena… potreba da se zapitamo, da oslušnemo, osvjestimo i pokušamo sačuvati jedini mogući istiniti iskaz/odraz/identitet – prirodu u nama/oko nas…

THE BESTIARIUM BY MARIJA TOSKOVIC
“My eye is too close to me… And I am not what I see…“
I experience the Bestiarium by Marija Toskovic as an art “debate” with the world in an attempt to disclose it, to decipher concealed codes for appearance/disappearance, dissolution ... into something that resembles ... that takes on the contours, that is reminiscent of the human-animal symbiosis, the unbreakable link/thread with the animal, the instinctive, with life ...
I believe that we share the experience of the view that results in reading the animal in human form, expression, grimace ... through direct comparisons and assigning character epithets ... Marija uses that contemplative drift into the world of bestiary, fluctuating forms that float weightless, dive and sail the endless expanses of unknown as a counterpoint to the essential questions WHO WE ARE ... WHAT WE ARE… WHERE WE ARE GOING...
The provocative game with identities indicates their consistent variability, the assuming of the desired, constructing of the false and the constant dichotomy between human and animal in man.
Where lies hidden the boundary that must not be crossed, which limits of our challenges do not allow the bestial to prevail, for the sake of preserving the human...? With the ease of her winding, snakelike line Marija is pulling us through the whirl of her own reflections on the bestial world which, undoubtedly, has become an insecure, uncertain ground, a “muddy water” in which, in order to be able to swim, you have to master a special “phenomenology of breathing”.
People masks, ghosts, shadows, amorphous, hybrid, swaying, weightless forms, half human, half animal - people fish, people birds, alienated people wandering aimlessly in panic, despair, in astonishment... passing by each other, meeting, intertwining in fear, in absence of empathy, in absence of themselves ...
The artist separates the face/mask from the body - this need for the distance of view, for a physical divergence so as to obtain an objective vision of the perceptive intellection produces multiplied faces, two-headed creatures, repetitive images that we do not want to see ... Rudimentary organs and limbs set in motion empty, amoeboid structures that appear out of nowhere. However, an unbreakable correlation is present... we cannot escape from ourselves as diverse, different, animal, from our own archetype.
The seductive squirm of Marija’s line envelops and forms new creatures - prototypes of characters, gathered in some kind of a catalogue of mnemographic records, lucid, sparkling breakthroughs into the untouchable world of the unknown...
This winding, swaying “oneiric delirium” is actually a warning... a need to ask, to listen in, to revive and try to preserve the only possible true statement/reflection/identity - nature in us/around us ...

Marija Tošković je rođena 1980. godine u Beogradu. Akademiju likovnih umjetnosti završila je u Portugalu, na Universidade de Évora. Članica je Udruženja portugalskih grafičara. Jedna je od osnivača grafičkog ateljea Contraprova u Lisabonu. Članica je ULUS-a. Živi i radi u Beogradu.

Marija Toskovic was born in Belgrade in 1980. She graduated in visual arts from Évora University, Portugal. She is member of the Association of Graphic Artists of Portugal. She is a founding member of the printmaking atelier Contraprova in Lisbon. She is member of the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia (ULUS). She lives and works in Belgrade.
