Mark is 52 years old. Mark has received multiple
awards for his efforts in advocating for others with disabilities.
He is a graduate of the Business Leadership Series training with the Indiana Institute of Disability and Community.
Mark has served as a board member for Down Syndrome of Louisville and the Arc of Indiana.
Graduation day 1983
Mark graduated from New Albany High School with his high school diploma.
Work Experience…
A brief work history
Ace Remanufacture Worked from 1988-1993. Mark assembled brake
shoes. He also worked in
alternator assembly. Mark also was the stock
room attendant. He was trained on how to
operate the cardboard compactor.
McDonald’s Worked at McDonalds
from 1993-1998. He was in charge of
straightening the lobby; clearing trays, cleaning tables, helping customers, etc.
He also was a part-time cook.
Floyd Memorial Hospital: 1999-2005 Mark worked in the dietary
department. He washed and put away
dishes. He assisted with preparing
patient trays. Mark helped load the carts.

A brief work history
Wal-mart: 2005-2011 Mark checked in returned
merchandise. He also greeted
customers at the entrance of the store.
Mark also assisted with some of Wal-mart’s public relation activities.
Woodside Management: 2011 Mark operated the rip
saw and cut saw. He also assembled the
wheels on pallets. Mark learned how to
operate general machinery at Woodside Management.
College Graduation day 2016Mark graduated from Jefferson Community and Technical College on May 9, 2016. He earned a technical certificate. Mark focused on public speaking.
Motivational Speaker
Over the last several years Mark has become a strong advocate for individuals with disabilities. He uses his passion for motivational speaking to advocate for others and encourage them to reach for their dreams. He speaks about equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities in employment, community inclusion, education, and emboldens others to engage in self-advocacy.
The Arc of Indiana Mark is a speaker for the Arc
of Indiana’s “My life, My choice” program.
He visits sheltered workshops in Indiana to speak about opportunities available to individuals with disabilities outside of the workshop environment.
Mark encourages them to seek competitive, integrated employment.
Mark has been the keynote speaker at multiple conventions and symposiums.
Penn State asked Mark to speak at their 3rd annual Post-Secondary Education Symposium, “Open Minds, Create Futures”.
University of Kentucky’s Human Development Institute hired Mark to be one of their keynote speakers for the Kentucky APSE conference. APSE stands for Association for People Supporting EmploymentFirst.
Mark spoke at the Helen Keller Institute for Human Disabilities in December of 2016, where he also received the Laura Lee Self-Advocate award.
