Our Philosophy
At Maroubra Junction Before and After School and Vacation Care Centre we aim to provide a
safe, clean and nurturing environment where all individuals are equally valued and respected.
We appreciate every family’s diverse culture and background and strive to cater for their
interests and needs accordingly.
We consider play important in fostering independence, self-help skills and self-esteem.
We aim to be a contributor to our local community and maintain positive, collaborative
relationships with families, staff, management and the community.
Vacation Care Fees Vacation care fees are charged at a flat fee per day including all excursion and activity costs. The Child Care Benefit (CCB) and Child Care Rebate (CCR) is applied to all costs incurred. Vacation care is charged at: $45 /day per child Including all excursion/activity costs
Priority of Access Sometimes, there may be a waiting list for child care services and to ensure the system is fair, the Australian Government has “Priority of Access Guidelines” for allocation of places in these circumstances. The guidelines only apply to Child Care Benefit approved child care. They are used when there is a waiting list for a child care service or when a number of parents are applying for a limited number of vacant places. Every Child Care Benefit approved childcare service has to abide by the guidelines and tell you about them when you enrol your child into care. Priorities:
• First Priority: a child at risk of serious abuse or neglect; • Second Priority: a child of a single parent who satisfies, or parents who both satisfy, the
work/training/study test under Section 14 of the ‘A New Tax System (Family Assistance) Act 1999;
• Third Priority: any other child.
Within these main categories priority should also be given to the following children: • Children in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families; • Children in families which include a disabled person; • Children in families which include an individual whose adjust taxable income does not
exceed the lower income threshold of $41 902 for 2013-2014, or who or whose partner are on income support;
• Children in families from a non-English speaking background; • Children in socially isolated families; and • Children of single parents.
Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations
Our Booking Process To book a place for vacation care, you must complete the attached booking forms (along with an enrolment form if this is your first time at the centre) and return these by Friday 4th March 2016. No forms will be processed until this date. Once we have processed forms according to priority of access guidelines, email confirmations will be sent out. Please note: Bookings are not confirmed until you receive a confirmation email. Your confirmation email will include a fee estimate and details for payment. You will receive a confirmation by Wednesday 30th March 2016. Please do not contact us regarding confirmation until after this date.
Our Program During the vacation care period we offer two separate programs for our senior and junior children. Juniors are those children in kindergarten to year 2 and seniors are years 3-6. The seniors program will be targeted at the older children and give them more independence when out and about on excursions. Some days they may catch public transport (bus, train or ferry) with staff to their destination. Children attending the senior excursions are allowed to buy lunch or snacks/drinks at their excursions (with the exception of days where lunch is provided or there are no facilities nearby) or they can bring along a packed lunch. Please remember that children attending senior excursions will need to bring along their morning tea as we only have a short time for recess breaks. What To Bring A light carry bag including the following:
• Hat – Children will be encouraged to wear sun-safe hats that protect the face, neck and ears when outside. Recommended hats are bucket hats and broad brimmed hats. Baseball caps and visors are not recommended.
• Comfortable clothes including closed in shoes and covered shoulders. No thongs or sandals.
• Plenty to drink • Jumper & wet weather gear (raincoat/poncho) • Morning tea and lunch (unless stated in the program that lunch is included)
Behaviour Please be aware that your child’s behaviour will determine his/her continuing enrolment. If behaviour in the Centre is deemed to be inappropriate, your child may be excluded from the excursions or from the Centre. Our rules are very simple and do apply to all children that attend our service. Property & Personal Belongings Centre staff are not responsible for any property that children bring from home. If it is precious think carefully before sending it. Money is also included in this point. A reminder that all portable game players (Gameboys/PSP/iPods/iPads etc) are only to be used between the hours designated on the day. At all other times of the day, they will be stored in the office. Please label all devices & accessories with your child’s name to avoid confusion. Mobile phones are strongly discouraged. Should you wish your child to bring one in it must be handed to staff on arrival and kept in the office. Movies at the Centre At certain times during the vacation care program, G and PG rated movies may be shown in the centre. Weather At times the weather is unpredictable. Circumstances may arise that require changes to be made to our program on the actual day. We do try to attend excursions even in the case of wet weather, so wet weather gear is important!
What We’re Doing • Please take note of arrival times as latecomers may miss out – excursions are run to strict
schedules. • Please read the information for each excursion day carefully to know what your child
needs to bring with them (e.g. morning tea, lunch or other equipment.)
