2 - MSBCA NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 2017
Dear members and friends of MSBCA,
On behalf of the organizing committee of Shall We Sing
2017, I would like to thank all contestants, guests, volunteers, sponsors and other supporters of our first-ever singing competition fundraiser. This was held on the evening of Saturday, December 2, at the clubhouse and it was a full house. Our fundraising campaign was designed to support two causes: the Calgary Urban Project Society (CUPS) low income social housing program and MSBCA’s programs for youth engagement and multicultural learning in the community. It turned out to be an enormous success and we have been able to meet our commitments to the benefit of many. Thank you everyone who helped make a positive difference to ' the community.
Special recognition goes to the contestants of the competition. Everyone was touched by their bravery and courage in singing before a crowd of many friends and members of our community. We are all proud of your achievements. A job well done!
On behalf of the Board, I would like to announce the resignation of Eric Ng as VP Malaysia due to his family and work commitments. Thank you Eric for serving this role on the Board for the past year. The Board has accepted the application of Helen Ong who is now appointed VP Malaysia. Helen’s other duties include leading the Arts & Crafts and youth/social programs, which she has done wonderfully in the past year. Congratulations Helen!
As Christmas and New Years approach, I would like to wish everyone a very happy and festive winter season. May you all enjoy good health and spirits with your family and friends. And always, remember to be safe and to party safely because you’re important to someone you know.
In November last month, one of the events that impressed me greatly was the inaugural Masala Spice cooking class led by Charan Kaur. It brought to my mind many unique flavours in Malaysia and Singapore with Indian and Malay influences. I hope that in the coming months, we will see growth in this cooking class. And I hope we will see more growth of Indian and Malay cultural influences that will bring our Malaysian, Singaporean and Bruneian community to its full potential.
Bringing our community to its full potential will not be an easy task. It will require patience, relationship building, and a culture of confidence. All three will need to be in the long term. Yet, from the progress we’ve made, we’re getting there. Next year is 2018 and I reflect upon how exciting 2017 has been. It’s been a year of remarkable progress.
JONATHAN LOOI
The President's Message
I want to take this end of year moment to thank everyone who had patronized MSBCA 2017 Sunday Culinary Art Lunch Event (SCALE) and especially would like to thank the sponsors for 4 of the events. The sponsors were Anna and Rod Zillman, Daisy and John Kielhorn, Sharon Yeong and Rebecca.
We will take a break in December 2017 and hope to see some of you again in 2018 starting on last Sunday of January.
3xcheers from tribe member Ah Hock.
Thank You!from Ah Hock
