Most Holy Trinity Sunday—Morning Prayer

Father,

You sent your Word to bring us truth and your Spirit to make us holy. Through them we come to know the mystery of your life. Help us to worship you, one God in three persons, You reveal yourself in the depths of our being, by proclaiming and living our faith in you. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen

FAITH FORMATION

“Indeed, the Holy Trinity is ‘the greatest of all mysteries, since it is the fountain and

origin of them all.’”

-Pope Leo XIII (Divinum illud munus)

A most blessed Trinity Sunday to you! Just when you thought the Church was done celebrating she welcomes

you back to Ordinary time with another Solemnity! Trinity Sunday is a day that we remember that God is a mystery of love. Not merely human love but an eternal and divine

Love. The symbol at the top of my column this week is known as a Celtic trinity knot. Now, I am not Irish, at all,

but I have found a deep love for the Celtic spirituality which has brought us many things; individual confession

(yes, confession used to be something you did in front of a crowd, but that’s a topic for later) centering prayer, and even maintaining the majority of great spiritual writers such as Augustin of Hippo and John the Golden-Tongue. This symbol or an adaptation can be found in most Celtic religious symbols. It was used to teach people when most of the population was illiterate. It is a knot that has three

points to represent the three persons of the Holy Trinity. It is a knot made out of a single line, just as we have one

God who is three Persons. Most importantly if you look at the image it has no beginning point or end point. This

shows us that like our God, this movement of the line is eternal. So this weekend let us remember that God loves

us eternally and in his entire persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. May God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be praised

from now until the end of time and into eternity!

The simplest acts of kindness are by far more powerful than a thousand heads bowing in prayer. – Mahatma Gandhi

Recently there was an incident during the Saturday Mass where medical personnel were needed. Luckily those who were with this personnel had medical training and everything was handled calmly. There are times when medical help is needed and staff is unaware of people who can help. If you are a doctor, nurse, EMT, police officer, or fire fighter attending mass, please let a staff member, sacristan, or usher know. And speaking from personal experience you may need to do this several times before I remember who are and be able to come to you in an emergency.

+++ The committee has been working hard with planning the festival. Over the 3 days of festivities there will be a need for 200 volunteer positions. Sign-up sheets will be coming soon, so have a pen in hand so you can sign-up for several things. This is definitely one of those times when many hands make light work.

+++ We received a ladies life vest this week for the raffle as well as a Kitchen Aid mixer. Both items are awesome. Tickets will go on sale soon in the Gathering Area after Mass and will be available in

the office during the week. Tickets are $1 each, but for every 5 you purchase you get 1 additional. $5 will get you 6, $10 will get you 12. Put your name and phone number on the back of the ticket and drop the ticket in the bag of the item you would like to have. If you’re feeling lucky you can all of your tickets in 1 bag or you can spread them to other items you wish to win. The night of the raffle someone will pull the winning tickets out of the bags. If you’re there you can take your prize home, or you will receive a phone call letting you know that you won. You do not need to keep a ticket. The easiest way to do this is to use return address labels.

It is always fun to see what comes in. Some suggestions are a ‘back to school’ basket. Fill a back-pack with school supplies. A movie basket. Put your favorite movie in a movie cup filled with popcorn. You can give a number of gift cards to local businesses and they each can be raffled off separately. Go to one of the home improvement stores and look around. What could you put in a small tool box that someone may want to bid on? You can be as creative as you want.

+++ The Gospel today is sometimes called “the Gospel in miniature” because it so concisely sums up the Gospel message. In even more condensed form, “God loved…God gave…” is the paradigm for stewardship---we give because we love.

A Priest Explains the Most Powerful Tool of the Devil – And How to Defeat It by Fr. Bill Peckman Fear is the biggest reason why Catholics do not evangelize. We are afraid of rejection, of having our lack of knowledge of the faith exposed, of persecution, of having to step out from society. Indeed, to evangelize is to say what the world offers is insufficient. That might well expose us to ridicule, persecution, or rejection. It might well expose our own lack of knowledge.

Fear is what destroys vocations. A young man or woman will fear rejection, accusation, loss of independence, and various other things. They will be shown the absolute worst examples: unfaithful priests, unhappy married people, bitter religious, and criminal behavior. They will be told this is the norm and who they will become should they follow such a road. Fear will be cultivated until even the thought of seeking God’s will is yanked up by its roots.

Fear is what destroys our liturgies. Fear? Absolutely! Fear that I won’t get anything out of it, fear that people will leave, fear that I will be seen as irrelevant, fear that I will be seen as dated, etc.

Fear causes us to put the focus on ourselves. It insulates us. If my modus operendi is self-protection/self-pleasure/self-satisfaction, they all scream to God, “I do not trust you! I have to look out for my own good!” cont. on right...

Cont. from the left… Because proper worship is focused away from ourselves and towards God, if I do not trust God then Mass either becomes placating a unfair God, or a completely disposable event…why worship something that is not looking out for our good? To be continued…
