2018 Bishop’s Annual Appeal Here I Am. Lord!

With the help of funding from the Bishop’s Annual Appeal, Nazareth Village, our diocesan priests retire-ment residence, has been a home over the years for a number of our priests. These priests reside there while also serving parishes by celebrating Mass. The Appeal also helps in providing financial support for the extraordinary healthcare needs of our priests. Your gift to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal is a concrete way to acknowledge our priests decades of faithful service to our church and as a way of showing thanks.

For your convenience, you can make an online gift or pledge at www.2018appeal.org. Thank you!

May you be blessed for your continued support!

Please join His Holiness, Pope Francis, who has chosen the following intention to be prayed for during the month of Novem-ber.

Universal: In the Service of Peace That the language of love and dialogue may always prevail over the language of conflict.

HOLY FATHER’S PRAYER INTENTION

SECOND WORLD DAY OF THE POOR 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

18 November 2018

This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him

Pope Francis challenges us to use the World Day of the Poor as an

opportunity to make an examination of conscience and consider

whether we truly do hear the cry of the poor.

In the World Day of the Poor, we join God in responding to the

poor and ensuring our brothers and sisters in need do not feel

alone or abandoned. To hear and respond to their cries, we must

be in relationship and get to know people who are poor. The

Pope encourages parishes around the world to join in solidarity

with people who are poor in their communities through a commu-

nal action, like praying together or sharing a meal.

There are five ways you can observe the World Day of the Poor:

1) Pray for the Poor

2) Learn about the causes of poverty and work to change them

3) Support the Church’s outreach to the poor

4) Make caring for the poor part of your routine

5) Practice the Corporal Works of Mercy

First Reconciliation Friday, November 30th

7:00 pm

INTERVIEWS All Conformandi must

meet with a Good Shepherd staff member during their first year to determine their readiness and willingness to

receive the sacrament. An invitation with dates and

times will be scheduled through Sign-up Genius.

On Tuesday evening as part of service to the

church community our two 7th grade classes packed Thanksgiving

boxes as part of outreach. The students had a list

and went “shopping” in the parish hall to fill their carton with Thanksgiving

fixings and breakfast items. The kids had a lot of fun and completed a

total of forty boxes.

An Acknowledgement of Gratitude

Thank you to Carole D’Esposito, the Kaphan family; Larry, Carolyn and chil-dren Luke and Rachel for carrying on their family tradition of organizing all donated non-perishable food items for the Thanksgiving collection. They spent last Sunday morning checking expira-tion dates, sorting food items and label-ling tables.

Their efforts ensured everything was organized for the 7th graders to fill boxes for our Outreach families. In ad-dition Carolyn spoke with kids explain-ing why their family has volunteered each year as well as prepared “lists” for our shoppers, ensuring each box was filled with all the necessary Thanksgiving trimmings.

Appreciation as well to the 7th grade parents who assisted as “content check-ers”: Lori, Kathy, Donna, Tabitha, Heidi, Kathy, Danielle and Robyn.

Lastly, thank you to all the parishioners who gave so big-heartedly and support-ed the parish Outreach with donated items and/or monetary donations. We are grateful for your support !

Jesus made the poor widow’s gift of a

few coins a memorable example of

generosity. Even though she gave a

lesser amount to the treasury than oth-

ers, her small donation required a

greater sacrifice than the large dona-

tions contributed by those who were

rich. God wants us to share generous-

ly with others, giving not just from

our surplus but from our whole self. (OSV)
