STEWARDSHIP SUMMARY: Seeing Jesus transfigured made Peter want to do something to mark the event. But the Voice from the cloud said clearly that the first task of those who recognize Jesus as Lord is to listen to Jesus – and then act! STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT: If we accept the challenge of putting God first in our time and treasure, our attitudes, priorities, and spiritual lives will definitely change. Are you interested in investing in the future of

religious education? A bequest in your Will could provide for an even better religious education program for our young people.

THIRST: Join us October 25-27, 2019 at the Bismarck Event Center for THIRST 2019. This exciting and free event has something for all ages and backgrounds. Featured guests include: Archbishop Allen Vigneron, Archbishop of Detroit; Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, known as the “Dynamic Deacon;” Curtis Martin, founder and CEO of the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS). Still more include: Fr. Leo Patalinghug, Dr. Edward Sri, Kendra Tierney of “Catholic All Year,” Amanda Zurface, from Covenant Eyes, an anti-pornography program, and others. Cat.Chat is also returning for children’s entertainment. Go to the diocesan website at bismarckdiocese.com/thirst2019

FOSTER FAMILIES NEEDED: Over 1,500 ND children are in foster care. Many of these children are a part of your own community. There is an enormous need for foster parents in ND. Call today & start impacting the life of a child. Part-time or full-time, call for more information at 224-9611 or 1-800-766-9279. Make a difference for these precious children by offering a safe & welcoming home.

VOCATION VIEWS: Spend your life growing rich in the sight of God. That’s what counts. How will you do this? (Luke 12:13-21)

MARRIAGE MOMENTS: Instead of being “King/Queen for a Day” consider being “Servant for a Day.” Serve your spouse something today - a hot drink, a meal, a favor, a massage, an errand. PARENTING POINTERS: Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.” (Jn 21:25) Many parents keep a log of their kids’ accomplishments - especially for the first child and during the first year of life. If you haven’t done this for awhile, jot down a few milestones for posterity this week. www.familyministries.org

PRAY FOR DIOCESAN SEMINARIANS

May the Lord fill their hearts with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

PREFERENTIAL OPTION FOR THE POOR: St. Dominic’s Feast Day is this Thursday, August 8. St. Dominic was so moved by the plight of the poor during a famine in Spain in 1190 that he sold his books to raise money for alms. Years before the development of the printing press, these sheepskin volumes were very expensive. Also, they were fully annotat-ed with Dominic’s notes from years of study. When asked why he parted with his books, St. Dominic said, “I do not wish to study these dead skins while people are dying of hunger.” Dominic’s act encouraged his fellow students to increase their almsgiving and the town to open its granary to the poor. https://social-spirituality.net/preferential-option-poor/
