AIS Automated Information Systems
Alarm Indication by an IA countermeasure that an abnormal activity has occurred
AMHS Automated Message Handling System
Anomaly Any condition that deviates from expectations based on things, such as requirement specifications, design documents, user documents, standards, or from someone’s perceptions or experiences. Anomalies may be found during, but not limited to, the review, test, analysis, construction, or use of (software) work products.

AOFR Assumption of Financial Responsibility
AOI Alarm of Interest. An alarm that has been evaluated by an IA professional and is deemed to be either a known threat action or an unknown action that requires further analysis.

COMOPTEVFOR Commander, Operational Test and Evaluation Force
Compliance Measure of the degree to which actual performance satisfies the expectations of a process or standard.
Component Automated or manual part(s) of a system.
COMPUTSEC Computer Security
COMSEC Communications Security
CONOPS Concept of Operations
Constraints Conditions that define or restrict how project goals and objectives are met. May include procedures, environment, staff, technical requirements, budgets, and schedules.
Contingency Plan Identified, evaluated, and selected actions of alternative strategies that address actions to be taken when a trigger event occurs, or when a risk becomes a problem.
Continuous Process Improvement
Technique for reviewing and upgrading business processes that usually abide by the following course of action:
Document the process as currently conducted
Establish ways to measure the process based on client requirements
Use the process, measure results, and identify improvement opportunities based on data collected
Implement process improvements
Repeat loop (continuous process improvement, also called business process improvement or functional process improvement)
Contracting Officer The only person authorized to approve changes to any of the requirements of a contract. Notwithstanding provisions contained elsewhere in the contract, this authority remains solely the Contracting Officer’s. If the contractor affects any change at the direction of any person other than the Contracting Officer, that change is considered to have been made without authority and no adjustment will be made in the contract price to cover any increase in charges incurred.

Process Defines what people do; documents roles and responsibilities for specific steps that are executed; uses inputs to accomplish a purpose, usually work products or services; sequential, related work activities and tasks that focus on accomplishing a specific objective:
Defined starting and ending points for each work unit
Combination of people, technologies, raw materials, methods, and environments to create a product, deliver a service, or accomplish an interim milestone
Process Activities Major actions within a process that are documented as a series or sequence of steps.
Process Asset Any developed process, procedure, or job aid used by EDS NMCI personnel to support the NMCI contract; documentation that relates to describing, implementing, and improving processes (for example, policies, measurements, process descriptions, process standards, models, frameworks, life cycles, and process implementation support tools).
Process Author Responsible for developing or updating a process asset; presents the process asset documentation in a Peer Review; responds to reviewer questions; participates in document improvement discussions; and applies changes to the document after the Peer Review.
Process Business Rules
Guidelines or formulas that dictate the structure of an activity within a process (for example, design reviews must occur during the 10 days before AOR).
Process Complexities Process anomalies, such as the following: Mistakes and defects in a process outcome Breakdowns and delays in delivering a process outcome Inefficiencies in a process

Term Definition Variations in process outcome
Process Constraint Restriction to a process (i.e., what the process will and will not achieve); explanation of process boundaries and limitations; for example, issues, such as customization, access, consistency, geographic dispersion of process resources or users, and agreement among stakeholders.
Process Dependencies
All events, factors, players, and other processes that affect a process (before the fact or after the fact).
Process Documentation
Printed documents, electronic files, software, and other materials and tools (including cross-item links) related to a process, for example, job aids, reference materials, guidelines, templates, flowcharts.
Process Flowchart A graphical view of the logical flow of major tasks and procedure calls within a process.
Process Input Resource used by an activity to accomplish the activity’s purpose; all significant information, knowledge, guidelines, documents that are required to complete an activity or task within a process.
Process Management Phases of process management as follows:
Develop. Create a process by defining activities and tasks that must be completed, responsible personnel, sequence of completion, inputs and outputs, and by creating supporting tools, such as templates, databases, user guides, job aids, references.
Document. Develop narrative, flowcharts, presentations, Web pages, databases, and archives that describe and support a process.
Approve and Accept. Formally review and agree on a process that can be changed after approval only through the use of formal, controlled procedures.
Implement. Put a process into practice.
Monitor. Track process performance over time, using identified measures.
Improve. Analyze process performance and identify changes that will increase its effectiveness.
Process Owner The individual responsible for approving changes made to a process.
