Carbowrap Series Description A petroleum-based tape wrap system developed for the protection of metal surfaces in severe environments and difficult to protect applications. Products are designed to be applied over hand or power wire brushed surfaces for above ground, buried, and underwater applications. The typical system involves priming the surface with a paste, profiling around irregular shapes with a mastic compound, and wrapping with a petroleum tape. An optional overwrap tape is used for additional mechanical or electrical resistance. Typical Uses Carbowrap Tape Series products are used for the protection of piping, valves, pumps, connectors, flanges, bolt heads or any other difficult to protect object. They are also used in applications where surface preparation is minimal or inadequate for coatings; or where the weather or ambient conditions are such that other methods are not practical. Petrolatum tape wrap systems provide excellent protection against chemical splash or fume attack. Protection Mechanism The tape wrap system is a very simple system in its approach to corrosion control and application for long term service. These petrolatum-based products will totally encapsulate an object such as a pipe or pipe flange and seal it off from atmospheric moisture and oxygen, thereby preventing corrosion of the metal substrate. The petrolatum material is inherently acid and caustic resistance, and has outstanding moisture resistance. The system remains flexible indefinitely and as long as the wrap is not broken exposing the metal substrate, it will continue to perform for extended periods of time. Primary Features Contain no VOC's Resists harsh chemical exposures Will not crack or harden over time Application in any weather Provides an impermeable protective layer No special tools required for application Complies with AWWA C217 specification Carbowrap Series Products Paste A preparatory priming paste used to displace surface moisture, passivates surface oxides and fills small irregularities in the substrate. Consists of saturated petroleum based compound and passivating agents. Marine Paste is a special primer paste that contains wide spectrum biocides that resist the growth of microbial organisms. Mastic A filler which profiles areas to be wrapped by easing contours on pipe joints, flanges, valves, bolts, and other irregular shapes. Consists of saturated petroleum based compounds, inert fillers, and reinforcing fibers. Tape (A, B, and C): A non-woven bonded synthetic fabric, fully impregnated and coated with natural petroleum based compounds and inert fillers. It is chemically inert, does not polymerize or oxidize, and retains water resistance and dielectric properties over an indefinite period. Three different tapes are available depending on the service temperatures (130°F, 150°F, and 165°F respectively). Marine Tape is similar to Tape "A" in that it contains a highly effective anti-bacterial agent to protect the substrate from microbial corrosion activities. This tape is designed for application underwater, near the splash zone, or on substrates in a corrosive marine environment. Overwrap A stabilized, plasticized, PVC film coated with an anti-corrosive pressure sensitive adhesive used to wrap over petrolatum tapes to provide color- coding and additional protective properties. It is flexible, resists acids, alkalies, and oils. Carbowrap Series Description A petroleum-based tape wrap system developed

for the protection of metal surfaces in severe environments and difficult to protect applications.

Typical Uses Carbowrap Tape Series products are used for

the protection of piping, valves, pumps, connectors, flanges, bolt heads or any other difficult to protect object. They are also used in applications where surface preparation is minimal or inadequate for coatings; or where the weather or ambient conditions are such that other methods are not practical. Petrolatum tape wrap systems provide excellent protection against chemical splash or fume attack.

Protection Mechanism

The tape wrap system is a very simple system in its approach to corrosion control and application for long term service.

Primary Features

• Contain no VOC's • Resists harsh chemical exposures • Will not crack or harden over time • Application in any weather • Provides an impermeable protective layer • No special tools required for application • Complies with AWWA C217 specification

Carbowrap Series Products Paste A preparatory priming paste used to displace

surface moisture, passivates surface oxides and fills small irregularities in the substrate. Consists of saturated petroleum based compound and passivating agents. Marine Paste is a special primer paste that contains wide spectrum biocides that resist the growth of microbial organisms.

Mastic A filler which profiles areas to be wrapped by

easing contours on pipe joints, flanges, valves, bolts, and other irregular shapes. Consists of saturated petroleum based compounds, inert fillers, and reinforcing fibers.

Tape (A, B, and C):

A non-woven bonded synthetic fabric, fully impregnated and coated with natural petroleum based compounds and inert fillers.

Overwrap A stabilized, plasticized, PVC film coated with an

anti-corrosive pressure sensitive adhesive used to wrap over petrolatum tapes to provide color-coding and additional protective properties. It is flexible, resists acids, alkalies, and oils.

Application Instructions Surface Preparation

Remove all contaminants such as dirt, oil, scale, and excessive moisture. Remove all loose paint, rust, or other residue by hand or power tool in accordance with SSPC - SP2 or 3.

Paste Application

All surfaces should be evenly coated with Paste to fill any voids or surface irregularities and to ensure good contact of the tape.

Mastic Application

To guard against voids and pockets during wrapping, Mastic should be used to contour complex

(not shown) shapes such as valves and flanges. Tape Application

Tape should be spirally wrapped incorporating a 1" overlap. For buried applications a 55% overlap is needed to ensure a double layer. When pipe is vertical, wrapping should commence at the bottom and proceed upward. All overlaps should be smoothed by hand. A 2" overlap should be used when starting a new roll.

Recommended Pipe Wrapping Roll Dimensions

Pipe Diameter Tape Role Width 1" - 3" 2" 3" - 4" 2" or 4" 4" - 8" 4"

10" - 12" 6" Overwrap Tape Application (optional)

Where mechanical protection is needed, use Overwrap with a 1" overlap. For buried applications use a 55% overlap.

*Shelf Life: Indefinite when kept at recommended storage conditions and in original unopened containers.
