Who owns my new recycling cart? Your new recycling cart is owned by Peters Township. Peters Township purchased these carts with a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. If you sell your home, the cart is to remain at the house for use by the new homeowner.
What happens if my new recycling cart breaks? The carts are maintained by Waste Management. If your cart breaks, please contact the Peters Township Municipal Building at 724.941.4180. The Township can arrange to have Waste Management fix your cart.
Why the change from the old recycling system? The new carts have increased capacity so you no longer have to use multiple containers to dispose of your recyclables or throw extra recyclables in the trash. The carts have hinged lids, providing protection from the weather and animals. More material will be diverted from the landfill, increasing recycling, reducing disposal costs, and providing potential cost savings.
AUTOMATED SINGLE STREAM RECYCLING BEGINS THE WEEK OF APRIL 6TH
What about my old green recycling container? The old green recycling containers are yours to keep should you choose. If you prefer not to keep the container, the Peters Township Public Works Department will be collecting the old recycling containers the week of April 13. Just place your empty green recycling container at the curb with your garbage and the our crews will pick it up. If it is in good shape it will be reused. If the old recycling container is showing signs of wear it will be recycled.
How large is my new recycling carts? Can I exchange my cart for a different size cart?
The new carts are 65 gallons. We are offering only one size cart. This cart was chosen after studying similar programs in other suburban Pittsburgh communities.
Where do I store my new recycling cart? The carts can be stored in the garage or on the side or back of your house. The carts are durable and can stored outside with no adverse effects.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR NEW RECYCLING PROGRAM
Speeding in residential subdivision is a persistent complaint of Peters Township residents. There is no one way to solve this problem. The Police Department is actively engaged in traffic enforcement throughout the Township including on residential streets. When existing condition warrants and at the request of neighborhood residents, the Township has installed traffic calm devices. You too can help address speeding in your neighborhood. Enclosed with your cart is a “Keep Kids Alive - Drive 25” sticker. If you live in a residential subdivision and believe that speeding is a problem we encourage you to affix the “Keep Kids Alive - Drive 25” sticker to your new recycling bins. We know that a sticker alone will not slow down traffic. By posting the sticker on your cart you and your neighbors will demonstrate to drivers that your neighborhood is committed to the safety of pedestrians particularly your neighborhood’s children.
You can make the difference!
