C. Structural Performance of Railings: Railings shall withstand the effects of gravity loads and the following loads and stresses within limits and under typical conditions.

1. Handrails:a. Uniform load of 50 lbf/ft. applied in any direction.b. Concentrated load of 200 lbf applied in any direction.c. Uniform and concentrated loads need not be assumed to act concurrently.

2. Infill of Guards:a. Concentrated load of 50 lbf applied horizontally on an area of 1 sq. ft..b. Infill load and other loads need not be assumed to act concurrently.

2.3 SPIRAL STAIRS

A. Center Column: Steel [or] pipe welded to baseplate for anchorage to floor structure. Brace column at upper floors by means of landings attached to column and floor structure unless otherwise indicated. Provide cap for column if top is exposed.

B. Treads and platforms, Formed Metal Plate: Formed steel plate, welded to hubs or center column, and as follows:

1. Straight flanges and welded-on legs.2. Rolled-steel, floor-plate wearing surfaces.3. Smooth steel-plate wearing surfaces.

C. Treads and Platforms, Metal Framed: Steel framed, welded to hubs or center column, and without legs; wearing surface as follows:

1. Smooth steel plate with integral abrasive.

D. Railings: Uniformly bent to spiral shape. Extend to top guard rail as shown on drawings. Extend at bottom of stair as required.

2.4 MATERIALS

A. Metal Surfaces, General: Provide materials with smooth surfaces, without seam marks, roller marks, rolled trade names, stains, discolorations, or blemishes.

B. Brackets, Flanges, and Anchors: Same metal and finish as supported item unless otherwise indicated.

C. Steel Plates, Shapes, and Bars: ASTM A36/A36M.

D. Rolled-Steel Floor Plate: ASTM A786/A786M, rolled from plate complying with ASTM A36/A36M or ASTM A283/A283M, Grade C or Grade D.

E. Steel Pipe Columns: ASTM A53/A53M, Schedule 40. Provide Schedule 80 for columns larger than where required to support loads.

F. Steel Pipe: ASTM A53/A53M, Standard Weight (Schedule 40) unless otherwise indicated.

G. Steel Tubing: Either cold-formed steel tubing complying with ASTM A500/A500M or mandrel-drawn mechanical tubing complying with ASTM A513, Type 5.

SECTION 05 7113 - FABRICATED METAL SPIRAL STAIRS

FABRICATED METAL SPIRAL STAIRS

05 7113 - 3SGA|NW Design

H. Aluminum Sheet and Plate: ASTM B209, Alloy 6061-T6.

I. Aluminum-Alloy Rolled Tread Plate: ASTM B632/B632M, Alloy 6061-T6.

J. Aluminum Pipe and Structural Round Tubing: ASTM B429/B429M, Alloy 6063-T6.

K. Extruded-Aluminum Tubing: ASTM B221, Alloy 6063-T5/T52.

2.5 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS

A. Fasteners: For connecting stair components and for anchoring stairs to other construction, select fasteners of type, grade, and class required to produce connections capable of withstanding design loadings.

1. For steel and cast iron, use plated steel fasteners complying with ASTM B633, Class Fe/Zn 25 for electrodeposited zinc coating.

B. Shop Primer for Ferrous Metal: Fast-curing, lead- and chromate-free, universal modified-alkyd primer complying with MPI#79 and compatible with finish paint systems indicated.

C. Wood for Stair Treads, Handrails, and Platforms: Laminated red oak, sanded to 120-grit smoothness. Apply uniform coat of manufacturer's standard clear sealer.

D. Rubber Wearing Surfaces: Manufacturer's standard, 1/4-inch- thick, molded-rubber covering in pattern and color indicated or, if not indicated, as selected by Architect from manufacturer's standard colors and patterns.

2.6 FABRICATION

A. Welded Connections: Cope components at connections to provide close fit, or use fittings designed for this purpose. Weld all around at connections, including at fittings.
