1. Prepare soil before installing rolled erosion control products (RECP's),Including any necessary application of lime, fertilizer, and seed.Note: When using cell-o-seed do not seed prepared area. Cell-o-seed must beinstalled with paper side down.
2. Begin at the top of the slope by anchoring the RECP's In a 6" (15 cm) deep x6" (15 cm) wide trench with approximately 12" (30cm) of RECP's Extendedbeyond the up-slope portion of the trench. Anchor the RECP's with a row ofstaples/stakes approximately 12" (30 cm) apart in the bottom of the trench.backfill and compact the trench after stapling. Apply seed to compacted soiland fold remaining 12" (30 cm) portion of RECP's back over seed andcompacted soil. Secure RECP's over compacted soil with a row ofstaples/stakes spaced approximately 12" (30 cm) apart across the width of theRECP's.
3. Roll the RECP's (a.) down or (b.) horizontally across the slope. RECP's willunroll with appropriate side against the soil surface. all recp's must besecurely fastened to soil surface by placing staples/stakes in appropriatelocations as shown in the staple pattern guide. when using the dot system,staples/stakes should be placed through each of the colored dotscorresponding to the appropriate staple pattern.
4. The edges of parallel RECP's must be stapled with approximately 2" - 5" (5 cm- 12.5 cm) overlap depending on RECP's type.
5. Consecutive RECP's spliced down the slope must be placed end over end(shingle style) with an approximate 3" (7.5 cm) overlap. Staple throughoverlapped area, approximately 12" (30 cm) apart across entire RECP'sWIDTH.Note: *In loose soil conditions, the use of staple or stake lengths greater than6" (15 cm) may be necessary to properly secure the RECP's.

A. Center Column: Steel [or] pipe welded to baseplate for anchorage to floor structure. Brace column at upper floors by means of landings attached to column and floor structure unless otherwise indicated. Provide cap for column if top is exposed.
B. Treads and platforms, Formed Metal Plate: Formed steel plate, welded to hubs or center column, and as follows:
1. Straight flanges and welded-on legs.2. Rolled-steel, floor-plate wearing surfaces.3. Smooth steel-plate wearing surfaces.
C. Treads and Platforms, Metal Framed: Steel framed, welded to hubs or center column, and without legs; wearing surface as follows:
1. Smooth steel plate with integral abrasive.
D. Railings: Uniformly bent to spiral shape. Extend to top guard rail as shown on drawings. Extend at bottom of stair as required.
2.4 MATERIALS
A. Metal Surfaces, General: Provide materials with smooth surfaces, without seam marks, roller marks, rolled trade names, stains, discolorations, or blemishes.
B. Brackets, Flanges, and Anchors: Same metal and finish as supported item unless otherwise indicated.
C. Steel Plates, Shapes, and Bars: ASTM A36/A36M.
D. Rolled-Steel Floor Plate: ASTM A786/A786M, rolled from plate complying with ASTM A36/A36M or ASTM A283/A283M, Grade C or Grade D.
E. Steel Pipe Columns: ASTM A53/A53M, Schedule 40. Provide Schedule 80 for columns larger than where required to support loads.
F. Steel Pipe: ASTM A53/A53M, Standard Weight (Schedule 40) unless otherwise indicated.
G. Steel Tubing: Either cold-formed steel tubing complying with ASTM A500/A500M or mandrel-drawn mechanical tubing complying with ASTM A513, Type 5.

H. Aluminum Sheet and Plate: ASTM B209, Alloy 6061-T6.
I. Aluminum-Alloy Rolled Tread Plate: ASTM B632/B632M, Alloy 6061-T6.
J. Aluminum Pipe and Structural Round Tubing: ASTM B429/B429M, Alloy 6063-T6.
K. Extruded-Aluminum Tubing: ASTM B221, Alloy 6063-T5/T52.
2.5 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS
A. Fasteners: For connecting stair components and for anchoring stairs to other construction, select fasteners of type, grade, and class required to produce connections capable of withstanding design loadings.
1. For steel and cast iron, use plated steel fasteners complying with ASTM B633, Class Fe/Zn 25 for electrodeposited zinc coating.
B. Shop Primer for Ferrous Metal: Fast-curing, lead- and chromate-free, universal modified-alkyd primer complying with MPI#79 and compatible with finish paint systems indicated.
C. Wood for Stair Treads, Handrails, and Platforms: Laminated red oak, sanded to 120-grit smoothness. Apply uniform coat of manufacturer's standard clear sealer.
D. Rubber Wearing Surfaces: Manufacturer's standard, 1/4-inch- thick, molded-rubber covering in pattern and color indicated or, if not indicated, as selected by Architect from manufacturer's standard colors and patterns.
2.6 FABRICATION
A. Welded Connections: Cope components at connections to provide close fit, or use fittings designed for this purpose. Weld all around at connections, including at fittings.
1. Use materials and methods that minimize distortion and develop strength and corrosion resistance of base metals.
2. Finish exposed surfaces smooth and blended and, except for fillet welds, so welded surface matches contours of adjoining surfaces.
2.7 STEEL AND IRON FINISHES
A. Preparation for Shop Priming: Prepare uncoated ferrous-metal
B. Apply shop primer to prepared surfaces of handrails and railing components unless otherwise indicated. Comply with requirements in SSPC-PA 1, "Paint Application Specification No. 1: Shop, Field, and Maintenance Painting of Steel," for shop painting.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Fastening to In-Place Construction: Provide anchorage devices and fasteners where needed for securing fabricated metal spiral stairs to in-place construction; include threaded fasteners for concrete and masonry inserts, through bolts, lag bolts, wood screws, and other connectors as required.
B. Install fabricated metal spiral stairs accurately in location, alignment, and elevation; level and plumb; and in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions.
C. Field measure existing conditions before fabrication of shop drawing and/or installation of spiral stair at site location.
D. Field Welding:
1. Use materials and methods that minimize distortion and develop strength and corrosion resistance of base metals.
2. At exposed connections, finish exposed welds and surfaces smooth and blended so no roughness shows after finishing and welded surface matches contours of adjoining surfaces.
3.2 REPAIR
A. Touchup Painting: Immediately after erection, clean field welds, bolted connections, and abraded areas of shop paint and paint exposed areas with same material.
B. For galvanized surfaces, clean field welds, bolted connections, and abraded areas and repair galvanizing in accordance with ASTM A780/A780M.
1. Paint repaired areas with same material used for shop painting.
3.3 PROTECTION
A. Protect finished tread surfaces during construction by covering with 1/2-inch- thick, plywood secured with plastic strapping or another nonmarring fastening method.
