High Priestess A great big hello to all the wonderful La-dies of Sphinx Court! Summer is finally here and many of you have left the Valley
until September. Wherever you will be for the next few months I wish you good health, loads of love and fun, and continue to make more memories.
Lady Lou Ann Speas, ways and means chairman, is planning and working very hard on the Carnival fund-raiser the Court is holding Sat. September 8th. She is needing volunteers to assist this summer helping with booths etc. If you are able to help please call her. We will plan a fun day of working together. I hope everyone will attend the indoor Carnival. 9/08/12 noon til 6:00 pm.
September 13th (Thursday) will be the Official Visit of our Grand High Priestess Lady Carol Sue Roberts. This day will also be our Court meeting as well. Mark your calendars as you will not want to miss meeting one of the most precious and loving ladies I have ever known. Be sure to call in your dinner reservation to Lady Karen MacDougall.
We just returned from Grand Council. There were 17 of us that attended. I will tell you this was the best Grand Council I have ever attended. The meetings had great information, a terrific marketplace, good food, lots of fun and a great hospitality living room run by Chief Lady Lou Ann Speas of Director Staff. Thank you Director Staff for all the food, supplies and taking me out to dinner.
Congratulations to our own Grand Musician Lady Jackie Miller, Honorary Page Lady Iris Colbert and Honorary Aides Lady Bobbie Balthazor, Lady Pat Bandhauer.
I want to share with you something that happened to me at Grand Council. After dressing in my beauti-ful High Priestess dress, I went down to take my class photos. Shortly after the photos my zipper split opened and would not work again. My friend and classmate tried to help. Time was running out and we had 45 minutes until Installation. I hurried back to my

room to change clothes and sit with our Court Ladies. As I was going to get on the elevator 3 of my class-mates came rushing out of the elevator. They De-manded we return to my room. They put tons of safety pins from the top to the bottom of my top. Knowing it was just minutes from installation they kept working. One of these Ladies was to be es-corted to the East at the beginning but she wanted her classmate with the rest of the class. This beauti-ful and unselfish young lady, Lori, is the daughter of the Grand High Priestess Carol Sue Roberts. Sitting with my class at Installation I was thinking how lucky I am to be part of an organization with wonderful ladies who care about the Shriner children and about each other. This was a huge memory for me.
Thank all of you for all you do!

Princess We all enjoyed our trip to Norfolk. We learned a lot and had a great time. I’m looking forward to our next trip to Honolulu, Hawaii.
I hope to see you all at Court in September. Have a wonderful summer and keep healthy and
happy.

Associate Princess We had a wonderful time at Grand Council. It was great to finally meet my counterparts and my Grand Officer, Lady Bea Hillman. I at-
tended a seminar about audits and learned ever so much about how to do them. Many thanks to our High Priestess and the Director staff for their wonder-ful hospitality, which was more than food and bever-age! I even learned a few new card games.
My special project is orthotics and prosthetics. I have set a goal of raising $5000.00. At this time you have already donated more than $2,800.00 so my goal should be really each to reach.
Orthotics are prescribed by the doctors to provide the correct support and protection to the children’s bodies. Prosthetics is the design, fabrication, and fitting of custom-made artificial limbs or other devices to help restore as much as possible, the function and appearance of full or partial missing limbs.
At our September meeting I would like to have a Halloween March for the children. You could bring costumes, stickers, t-shirts, or other Halloween items for me to send to the hospitals.
We plan on a great time at WAOUM in Hawaii. Hope you can join us!!
The saying, “so close but yet so far” was true for me. We were in Norfolk, Virginia for a week and I never got to Virginia Beach, where I lived for 20 years. Maybe next time.
Have a safe, cool, and fun summer! See you in September.

Second Ceremonial Lady Hi everyone! We just got home from an exciting,
fun filled trip to Grand Council and I think everyone is glad to be home. I'd like to send a big thank you to the High Priestess, Lady Lynn Hatch, for making the week so enjoyable for our whole group.
AND... I'm not a mushroom anymore!! Look for my class information on page 7 of this newsletter. I'm now one of "Diana's Soaring Eagles"!
Remember we are moving the September meeting to Thursday, 9/13/12, for the Grand High Priestess' Official Visit. Dinner will be served at 5:30pm in the Fiesta Room by the Shrine for $12. Clowns The Clown Unit wishes all a wonderful summer. Upcoming events: Saturday July 28, Clown fun day
at Pam Wade's where we will work on our clowning skills and the CornFest August 25 and 26 where we will face paint and entertain with our puppets. Our next meeting will be on September 5th.
A little thought for the summer: How many smiles from day to day I've missed along my narrow way! How many kindly words I've lost. What joy has my indifference cost! This glorious friend that now I know, would have been friendly years ago. Let's not forget to give a smile and a kind word to all we meet.

Sphinx Patrol Greetings from Sphinx Patrol! What a wonderful
time we had at Grand Council – our walk-on was per-fect (even with a new captain leading the parade – thanks, Ladies, for keeping me straight) and we had a great good time with all of our Sphinx Court fellow travelers in our Hospitality Room – thanks to our HP Lynn Hatch and Director Staff Chief Lou Ann Speas.
Enjoy your summer, Ladies, and come back ready to work for the KIDS. Sphinx Court still has lots of stuff going on through the summer so be sure to read the calendar of events in this issue and call your Unit leaders if you have any questions or concerns. Sphinx Court Travel Fund Committee Glad to hear that all our ladies made it back from
Grand Council safely. I have heard there were some GREAT times there.
Now summer has started but please don’t forget the project coming up right after we get back to work in the fall. The first Travel Fund projects for the year will be a Rummage Sale in November. If this one goes well we might have another one later on. We will also be having a Hobo Picnic in February. We will be having monthly table sales at the Court meetings and also selling Jewelry. Stop by the table and check out the catalog at all our Court meetings.
We are ready to take any donations for the Rum-mage Sale now. Please contact me if you have items to be picked up. We will find a way to store them till the Sale in November.
Our next meeting will be September on the 10th at 6:15, prior to the Director Staff meeting.
Hope everyone has a safe and happy summer.
Lady Trish Whalen, PHP Co-Chairman
