1 Panther Post A Message from Mr. Springer… Coral Springs Charter 2014 MAY May certainly is one of the busiest months at CSCS but also one of the most exciting times as well. This is the time of year when the hard work of so many of our students is acknowledged and celebrated. Our students have excelled not only in the classroom, but also in their many extracurricular activities as well. Closing out the athletic season, the presentation of concerts, awards programs and end of the year banquets almost entirely fills up the May calendar! The administration and faculty are extremely proud of all our students! Celebration is certainly in order for the Class of 2014! Our seniors are looking forward to many upcoming events including: Prom, Senior Awards Night and finally Commencement Ex- ercises on May 29th. Many of our pending graduates have finalized their post high school plans and are eagerly looking forward to being college freshmen this fall. All of us at CSCS wish our graduates the very best as they begin the next chapter in their life’s jour- ney. Congratulations also to our 8 th graders who will be moving from middle school into high school. CSCS will acknowledge this important milestone by holding a transition cere- mony on June 5 th . As this school year wraps up, the staff is busy preparing for a new school year to begin in August. We are looking forward to welcoming a new group of sixth graders and will be hosting an orientation in our auditorium for 6 th grade parents on July 23rd at 6:00 PM and incoming 6 th grade students on Tuesday, July 29 th from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM in the gymna- sium. Finally, students are reminded to complete the summer reading assignment. Please see the Summer Reading Page in the back of this newsletter for the book options for Middle and High School students along with lessons and activities related to the books. We hope the summer reading program will instill in our students the joy and love of reading. For your convenience, the books will be on sale at the school store. In closing I would like to wish all our students and parents a relaxing and enjoyable sum- mer!

NURSES’ NOTES As we approach the end of this school year i wanted to remind parents of a few clinic tidbits regarding medication. The medication administration forms are good for year from the date your doctor signs the form. This means if your students form is dated September 12th 2013, the form is good through September 12th 2014.

I cannot keep any medication over the summer at school. Therefore, if you have brought in medication it needs to be picked up by the parent or guardian or it will be discarded the last day of school. I cannot send medication home with students. You can then bring it back in at the beginning of the new school year. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me any day between the hours of 9am and 2pm. Thanks and have a wonderful summer

NHS NEWS The school year is winding down but in some ways, NHS is just getting started! Congratula-tions to those students who have been accepted into the 2014-2015 National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society. The students admitted into this prestigious organization were rec-ognized for their superior achievement in academics, community service and leadership. Acceptance into both NHS and NJHS requires a GPA above 3.0 and at least 20 community service hours and proof of leadership roles they have achieved. Our annual Induction Ceremony for our newly admit-ted members took place on Monday April 28th. At the ceremony, current officers and their advi-sor, Mr. Singer, gave the audience an insight on what NHS is truly about and welcomed the new in-ductees. This year's ceremony was attended by several special guests including City Commissioner Claudette Bruck. All new members are recognized for their achievements to date and their commit-ment to continue in this capacity. Induction into this elite organization is always a special event and one the school is very proud of. This month our members were honored with a free luncheon sponsored by Olive Garden ac-knowledging the work our chapter has done on behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Pennies for Patients campaign. Of all the schools our size, Coral Springs Charter's NHS raised the most money! Congratulations on a job well done. Now that FCATs are here, our tutoring program is winding down. Thanks to Calvin Iu, Vice President of Tutoring, for his work with the math department in keeping with our tradition of men-toring those students who need help with math. We will have the last general meeting of the year on Monday, May 5th, in the chorus room promptly at 2:45. This will be the last meeting for current senior members. Make sure to stop by our bulletin board for more details on events we are doing and membership compliance. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact Mr. Singer or our VP of Communications, Do-menica Vera at [email protected] Membership in NHS requires 18 tutoring hours per semester, a 3.0 GPA, and 2 community service events each semester.
