Each year I find that I run out of time before I run out of intentions! This is the last note of this school year and my mind is racing! What did I forget to share? Who did I not recognize? What topic could I have discussed in more detail? Suffice it to say, I hate to see this year end! Your teens have filled our days with enthusiasm and wonderment! Your participation has enabled us to do more than we ever thought we could! Our teachers continue to go above and beyond, leading our students to heights they did not realize were possible. We close out this year feeling the fatigue that comes from knowing we did our best. We worked together and we achieved great things. Now it is time to take a brief break, regroup and prepare for the next step! This week’s Middle School graduation is one of the clear reminders that our job here is done, for now. What a joy is has been to see these young students leave their insecurities and self-defeating behaviors behind. This group, in particular, has emerged with a strength and gentle spirit that is rare in their age group. They have shown grit and compassion, vulnerability and courage, playfulness and persistence! The high school staff is eagerly awaiting their participation in activities and classrooms next year! Thank you to all who completed the parent survey this year. You may view the results on our website. Our percentage of participation can always improve. Each and every comment is read and considered carefully. A few years ago it was the parent survey results that provided the fuel needed to complete the Cougar Center. Our team will review this year’s responses to see where you wish our efforts for facility growth and program enhancement to be placed. Of course I have a long list of “to do’s” that includes fields, courts, an arts facility and even a small planetarium(!) but our Board of Directors place a considerable amount of stock in what they hear from parents! It is always rewarding to read the responses that praise TCS, the staff and our special knack with teens. It is also important that we hear where we can improve. I hope that those few parents who indicated specific areas of need have made their perceptions clear to us so we can take their ideas into consideration. I am always concerned at the number of “not aware” responses we receive. Especially in the area of curriculum and safety! Perhaps just the act of answering the questions will prompt those parents to fill in the blanks they have about their teen’s school. Plans for next year are already well underway. There will be a few changes…all good! Our new classroom addition should be complete; new opportunities for athletics, arts and music will be available; and new goals and new dreams will be before us! In the wake of the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma, the latest in a string of tragic events that have reminded us how fragile life is and how precious our time is together, I pause to appreciate you! Thank you for a great year! See you at Graduation!!
