MAY FESTIVAL 2014This is the nineteenth annual celebration of music and
worship to be held in the Bournemouth Town Centre Parish. We welcome many music lovers and over a hundred performers who join with us for these three glorious days.
This year the events take place in three different venues starting on Saturday at the Pavilion with an organ concert by Simon Gledhill, moving to St Stephen’s Church and finally to St Peter’s Church for Monday’s events.
Our special guests this year include Gordon Stewart who will be giving the Whitlock recital. He is a regular visitor to the festival and an internationally renowned Concert Organist
The composer of the festival commission is Ian Wicks. The composer Andrew Carter from York is giving the Lecture. We also again welcome Andrew Fletcher as our festival
organist. The choir of Chichester Cathedral directed by Sarah Baldock
will be singing the Saturday Festival Evensong.St Stephen’s Choir will once again be joined by the Durlston
Court School Choir for the Sunday Choral and Orchestral Concert which has the theme HALLELUJAH! and will include the Coronation Anthem “The King shall Rejoice” by Handel and the Concerto for two Cellos by Vivaldi and a variety of items loosely linked to the theme.
On Monday the lunchtime concert is given by Caren Friel (soprano) with Sam Hanson at the piano.
The Monday Choral Evensong in St Peter’s will be sung by the joint choirs of the Town Centre Parish.
The final event on Monday is an Instrumental Concert featuring The Parry Ensemble with Sam Hanson.
We hope to welcome many who have been with us before over the eighteen years of this festival and will be delighted to meet all for whom 2014 will be your first visit.
