Broward County Library Super Fan: Felischa Reid

The library is the place to be! When I was younger, after school, the bus dropped my friends and me right off at the library. I was in the After School @ Your Library Program. It was really fun meeting new friends and sometimes there were special programs and that was exciting as well. I started to volunteer at the library during my first year in middle school.

Recently, my teacher was going over the criteria of our fourth-quarter work. She then mentioned the book our class would be reading this quarter, The Giver by Lois Lowry. Suddenly, a ripple of “what if the library doesn’t have it?” or “I don’t want to download the book to my phone because it could get a virus!” went through the classroom.

My teacher couldn’t answer their questions, but I could. I said “If you have a Broward County Library card you are able to get the eBook on your electronics. With your library card, you can download the Overdrive app. Log in or create an account, click “add a library” and type in ‘Broward County.’ Once you add the Broward County Library system, click the star icon to save it as a favorite. Then type in the name of the book you are looking

for and voila! You have an eBook.”

My teacher told me “You sure do know about your library system.” I couldn’t wait until my mother came home that day. As soon as she came in and settled down I waltzed right in the room. “Mommy, you would’ve been so proud of me in class today. Some students couldn’t figure

out how they were going to get our book of the quarter. So I took it upon myself to tell them about BCL Wow and the Overdrive app and how you can get the eBook on your Android, or IPhone.” I blurted this out to my mother before she asked me how my day was. “I’m proud of you.” she replied. Broward County Library has become a regular part of my routine - the library is wow!
