GRADE 5 The fifth grade has finally come into the last months of their time at P.S. 79. It is certainly a time of joy, jitters, concern, and celebration. We have worked very long and hard and soon all that hard work will pay off when we receive our diplomas! The State Exams are over but school is certainly NOT! We certainly can breathe a sigh of relief about no more State Tests but the curriculum is still in full bloom like our blooming tulips, roses, and crocuses! Science will be filled maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle and learning more topics on Food and Nutrition. Social Studies will continue to lead us to learn about Canada and how it compares and contrasts to the US. Let’s keep our thinking caps on and remember there are still 2 months left to go. Make it a productive and creative time. The rest of the month is the kick off of our Graduation Trips! Spirit Week takes place during the month of May. Look forward to all the exciting events! MAY CELEBRATIONS May is also Teacher Appreciation Month. So give it a whirl, tell your teacher how much you appreciate him or her. (He/She may give less homework!) On May 8 th , the world celebrates CLEAN UP YOUR ROOM DAY. Show your parents or guardians how much you care about your things and clean them up! Most importantly May 10 th is Mother’s Day, everyone should show how much we appreciate the woman who takes care of us unconditionally. OTHER MAY DAYS: INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO EXPLORE! May 2015 A NEW DAY I sit on my porch, in the still of the darkness. So quiet, so still, so calm is the night. The sounds of the air seem to change. So subtle, so clear, so slight. As I try to stretch my eyes and see in front of me. I notice in the distance of my stare. The ever brightening of the horizon. So grand, so colorful, somehow, somewhere! Than the birds begin to fill my ears with song. The night turns into day. All that darkness turns to an array of beauty. So perfect, so planned, so Happy May!
