Farewell for the Chairman Dear Friends and Members, Serving these past 6 years on the Castle Rock Chamber Board of Directors and this past year as Board Chairman has been a pleasure and an honor. Working with all of the directors and Pam Ridler, President and CEO, has been amazing. Their commitment to the community and the contribu%ons from this group has been a demonstra%on of the Chamber vision, values and mission.

I will surely miss being in the center of mix with town and chamber issues as board chair. I plan to stay involved with chamber leadership through con%nued service. It is my personal commitment to the chamber members and leadership to provide insight and exper%se where I am able. The chamber will con%nue to be in good hands with the leadership of Pam Ridler and the incoming board chair-man, Elyse McNulty. Elyse has served on the board for a few years and last year on the execu%ve commiee. Her insight and perspec%ve will provide a high standard of leadership for our chamber of commerce. Best wishes, Elyse!

Since this is not goodbye, I look forward to seeing all of you in the very near future.

Best Regards, Mike Tafoya

For the last seventeen years, I have worked as a Real Estate Assistant in the community alongside my husband, Tom Calhoun, who is a realtor with RE/MAX Alliance. I joined the Chamber in June of 2011 and became an Ambassador in February of 2012. Joining the Chamber has proven to be the best way to get involved in the communi-ty. By becoming a member of the Chamber, I have greatly broadened my friendships and business connec%ons. I have met so many wonderful people who live and work in this beau%ful town and I am honored to serve the residents. Melanie Calhoun was just named the Ambassador of the Year (2014) at the Chamber’s Annual Banquet ceremony on April 24th.

The Castle Rock Chamber has so many dedicated Ambassadors, that being awarded Ambassador of the Year is amazing. I am blessed to have this recogni%on and thank you to the Chamber for this opportunity! When I’m not assis%ng Tom with Real Estate or par%cipa%ng as an Ambassador, %me with family and friends is a priority. When the opportunity arises, I enjoy dancing, playing piano, walking our 3 Chihuahuas, hiking and traveling.

Thank you Melanie, for all you do to support and promote the Castle Rock Chamber. We greatly appreciate and applaud your outstanding efforts!

Business of the Month—Kokish & Goldmanis, P.C.

Pam Ridler, Chamber President/CEO proudly presents the Business of the Month award to John Kokish as Staff and Chamber Ambassadors show their support.

The Castle Rock Chamber honors Kokish & Goldmanis, P.C. as our April Business of the Month recipient. They have been members for more than eighteen years. Kokish & Goldmanis, P.C. is a Castle Rock based law firm comprised of five highly experienced aorneys all of whom specialize in certain areas of the law. Essen%ally, the firm prac%c-es in the areas of family law, estate planning, real estate and business with some overlap in the misdemeanor criminal field.

Rebecca Goldmanis and Dawn Rodgers specialize in family law areas and work in the fields of divorce, child custody and support, maintenance/alimony, property division and domes%c violence. Both Ms. Goldmanis and Ms. Rodgers are former deputy district aorneys experienced in the domes%c violence arena. Ms. Rodgers also handles misdemeanor issues.

Bernard Greenberg and Wendy Monteith focus on estate planning, i.e., wills, trusts, probate maers and elder law. Both are well versed in these areas, Mr. Greenberg having 35 years of specializa%on in those areas. Ms. Monteith also handles much of the firm’s civil li%ga%on prac-%ce.

John Kokish, who moved his prac%ce from Denver to Castle Rock 36 years ago, handles real estate and business issues. Real estate includes purchase and sale of property, easement issues, HOA disputes, zoning maers and landlord/tenant. The business area includes crea%on of lim-ited liability companies, sub-chapter S and other en%ty forma%ons as well as purchase and sale of businesses and partnership disputes.

The firm has consistently received an AV ra%ng from Mar%ndale-Hubbell, a peer review system that rates aorneys based on evalua%ons by fellow aorneys and judges. While Kokish & Goldmanis, P.C. believes selement is the most efficient and civilized way of resolving disputes, its aorneys will, if necessary, take aggressive ac%on in court.

The aorneys are supported by a highly experienced staff including Brenda Younger who works in family law with Ms. Goldmanis and Ms. Rodgers, Sharon NordentoZ who works in all the other fields with John Kokish, Bernard Greenberg and Wendy Monteith and Sue Antaky who manages the office.

The firm’s aorneys are ac%vely involved in community affairs and have received numerous awards for their par%cipa%on.

Most of the firm’s clients come from Douglas, Elbert and Arapahoe coun%es and the south Denver metropolitan area. For more infor-ma%on about Kokish & Goldmanis, P.C. call (303) 688-3535 or visit their website at: www.kgays.com.

Developing Leaders in Douglas County—Class Topic Law Enforcement “Best day yet!” Jeff Holwell, Class of 2015, City of Lone Tree

On Wednesday, April 1, the Leadership Douglas County class met at the Douglas County Sheriff’s office in Castle Rock to get a first-hand look at public safety, incarcera%on and end of life is-sues. This was a day that exposed the class to a variety of topics and, for some, many “firsts” to be experienced. The day began with a panel and discussion with Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock, Castle Rock Chief Jack Cauley, Parker Po-lice Department’s Jim Tsurapas, and Lone Tree Police Chief Jeff Streeter. These leaders recognized the unusual, but posi%ve collabora%ons among law enforcement agencies in Douglas County. They addressed ques%ons related to the efficiencies that they experience through shared manpower, equipment and the cost benefits to all of the towns and ci%es during a %me of increasing regional growth. The morning segment included tours of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the jail and new expansion that includes a medi-cal unit, and a presenta%on by Coroner Jill Romann, with a tour of the morgue. The County’s S.O.R.T. Team demonstrated a well-executed cell extrac%on of an uncoopera%ve “prisoner,” much to the awe of class members, who had posi%oned them-selves in the cell for a beer view of the demonstra%on. Later in the day, exci%ng demonstra%ons were given by the K-9 Team and a sniper/officer rescue by the SWAT Team. A hands-on sim-ula%on ac%vity, an%cipa%ng the ac%ons of poten%al criminal behavior, tested the reac%ons and reflexes of each par%cipant as they role-played a variety of situa%ons on a full-scale interac-%ve video. Both challenging and fun, was the opportunity for each class member to receive one-on-one firearms training at the shoo%ng range located at the Law Enforcement Training Facility in Highlands Ranch. Some had never held or shot a gun before, so this was a new experience. The next Leadership Class is “Fire and Emergency Services Day on Wednesday, May 6, with ac%vi%es in Castle Rock and Lone Tree. If you would like to aend a class day, prior to applying to the 2015-16 program, please let us know! Leadership Douglas County is currently accep%ng applica%ons for the 2015-16 Class. The applica%on deadline is June 15th, 2015. Space is limited, so please apply now! For more infor-ma%on on LDC or for an applica%on visit www.leadershipdoulglascounty.org.
