Purpose and Key Findings
In Fall 2014, the MBA Roundtable conducted a study on Shared Curriculum and
Governance with 219 respondent business schools from North America, Europe
and Asia.
The purpose of the study was to better understand the extent to which MBA
core courses are the same or different in other MBA and MS offerings within the
business school portfolio and the level at which curricular decisions are made in
the school.
Portfolio Composition
• Part Time MBA is the most common offering in the portfolio
• Full Time MBA designated by most as the flagship program
• Schools that offer a one year MBA or a Part Time MBA are twice as likely to
also offer an MS Management degree
• MS Analytics mentioned as the most common “other” MS offering
Shared Curriculum
• Full Time, Part Time, and Online MBA are very similar to each other
• Executive MBA Programs are different from other MBA offerings
• Specialized Masters have the least in common with the MBA
Governance
Primary roles vary by program type
• Full and Part Time MBA: Faculty Curricular Committees
• Executive MBA: Associate Dean

Flagship Program
The Full Time MBA was designated most often as the flagship,
the most prominent or primary program in the school portfolio of
graduate management programs.

MBA and Specialized Masters Offerings
Participant business schools that offered a one year Full Time MBA were twice
as likely to also offer a MS Management degree compared to a school that
offered a two year Full Time MBA.
Participant business schools that offered a Cohort|Lockstep Part Time MBA
were more than twice as likely to also offer a MS Management degree
compared to a school that offered a self-paced Part Time MBA.
