MCalibration Tutorial:
Calibrate a Built-in Abaqus Material Model
using a MCalibration Template
Overview
This presentation illustrates how to calibrate any of the
built-in material models in Abaqus using a MCalibration
“Abaqus-Template” material model
2
Step 1: Load in the Experimental Data
Load in the experimental data
This example is using experimental data for a rubber tested in uniaxial compression
Depending on the selected material model it may be necessary to use multiple experimental data sets
3
Step 2: Set the Solver Type
4
Specify a suitable Abaqussolver
Select “Abaqus/Standard” to use Abaqus/Standard with one of the built-in material models or a PolyUModmaterial model
Select “Abaqus/Explicit” to use Abaqus/Explicit with one of the built-in material models or a PolyUModmaterial model
In this example we will use a built-in Abaqus/Standard material model
Step 3: Specify the Material Model
5
Select an Abaqus-Template material model
Note that you can modify the template by hand
Variables are specified by the syntax: %var=15%, where var is the variable name and 15 is the starting guess of the variable
Step 3: Specify the Material Model
The material parameters
can be specified as
variables, equations, or
even using complete Python
scripts
6
Step 5: Set the Abaqus Path
Make sure the
specified path to
Abaqus is
correct
Make sure
“Delete Abaqus
Files...” is not
selected if you
want to examine
the Abaqus inp-
file that
MCalibration
generates
8
Step 6: Run One Simulation
Click the “Run Once” button to make sure the simulation works
In this case the default set of parameters is not very good
You can then manually modify the material parameters or run the optimize parameters by clicking on “Run Calibration”
9
Step 7: Manual Calibration
10
One way to improve the
predictions is to manually
manipulate some of the
parameters
Step 8: Automatic Calibration
11
The material parameters can be optimized by clicking on “Run Calibration”
In this case the selected Drucker-Prager plasticity model does not work very well (as expected)
