CONTENT / TECHNICAL OBSEVATIONS
In order to visit the site we were split in to 2 sessions, the first session was at
8:45 am to 9:45 am and the second session starts at 9;45 am to 10;45 am.On the 21of June 2013 we gathered at the entrance of the site. The site was located in Subang
Jaya close to Subang Parade. The address in : LOT PT12590,Senahagian Rezab
Talian Rintasan Elektrik Subang Jaya, Mukim Damansara,Daerah Petaling, Selangot
Darul Ehsan. The architect in charged is Soonchai Architect. The Civil and Structure
mechanical and electrical engineer are J & A Association SDN BHD. The conteactor
in charged is KP Synergies berhad -Trangrid venture SDH BHD consortium.Startingdate of construction is18 October 2010 the estimated time for this project to be
completed is 3 years from the starting date.
We were shown around the site by Mr. Peter. First we had a look at the bar
bending area. All the reinforcement bars are placed there while the bar benders
bend the bar bending machine. Secondly we visited the carpentry area, this is where
wood used for formwork are placed and cut in to their specific sizes. Later on, we
saw construction workers make the concrete spacer. Concrete are mixed then
poured in a mould then in cut in to the specific sizes and left t dry. Certain concrete
spaces are inserted with wires and some not. We learned that concrete spacers with
wire attached to it are made for the sides of the reinforcement bars and the ones
without the wire are for the bottom.
After that, we observed how the construction workers work one site. The
construction workers that are working at a high level would secure them self by
attaching them self to the scaffolding. This is to prevent the worker from falling down
from a high level. We were told that only the pile caps are precast and the rest of the
concrete work on site where insitu casting and the industrialised building system
(IBS) is not used trough out this construction. The columns are all sitting on the pile
caps because if the column where to sit on the beam it would not be strong enough.
The maximum high of a column is 11 meters. Because this is a substation platforms
are specially made according to the size and able to with stand the weight of the
transformers.

Objective of site visit
To understand the basic of the construction process
To understand the practical aspect of construction techniques on site and the
comparison of theories from books.
To be exposed to actual working environment on site including uncertainty
circumstances
To learn the ability of communicating with the construction team members on
site and to learn the importance of teamwork in the building team.
To witness the usage of construction equipment on site that includes
mechanical plants.
To explore and identify various types of building materials and technology on
site.
To be aware of the importance of safety on site and understanding of safety
problems and site conditions.
To recognize the items measurable for sub-structure and reinforced concrete
frame works.
To adopt a systematic approach to take-off quantities from drawings for the
preparation of Bills of Quantities for substructures and reinforced concrete
frame works.
To demonstrate a systematic and orderly mind and be able to visualize the
drawings and details given for substructure and reinforced concrete frame
works.

Learning outcomes and Conculution
From this site visit I managed to understand the basic of the construction
process and the practical aspect of construction techniques on site and the
comparison of theories from books. I also was exposed to actual working
environment on site including uncertainty circumstances. I learn the ability of
communicating with the construction team members on site and to learn the
importance of teamwork in the building team. Besides that I managed to witness
the usage of construction equipment on site that includes mechanical plants.
Through this site visit I am able to explore and identify various types of building
materials and technology on site. I am now aware of the importance of safety on
site and understanding of safety problems and site conditions. In addition I learn
recognize the items measurable for sub-structure and reinforced concrete frame
works and adopt a systematic approach to take-off quantities from drawings for
the preparation of Bills of Quantities for substructures and reinforced concrete
frame works. I am able to demonstrate a systematic and orderly mind and be
able to visualize the drawings and details given for substructure and reinforced
concrete frame works.
In conclusion I managed to learn a lot of things that were not in texts books
and now I am able to visualise what I am learning because I had first-hand
experience of visiting a site.
