The pristine, 5.4 acre plot serves as the symbolic focus of uptown Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, and provides an elegant entryway to the new BB&T Charlotte Knights Ballpark. Music Box Lunch Series These are small, informal musical presentations featuring local and regional talent, performed from noon to 1:30 pm on Tuesdays and Fridays through September. Blind Driver Fri June 13 John Franklin Tue June 17 Jeff Brown Fri June 20 Dave Haywood Tue June 24 Alan Barrington Fri June 27 Colby Dobbs Party in the Park Series This is a series of weekly perfomances featuring new, upcoming talent from the region. The 2014 series will take place Wednesdays, 5:30pm-8:30pm. Here is the June schedule: Wed June 4 The Extraordinaires Wed June 11 Too Much Sylvia Wed June 18 Flashback, The Party Band Bearden Music Series On the last Saturday of June and July, a different genre of music will be performed with additional program- ming supporting the music style. Saturday, June 28 3:30pm - 5:00pm SquareRoots 5:30pm - 7:00pm Underhill Rose 7:30pm - 9:00pm Shenandoah Bearden Birthday Bash This annual festival takes place over Labor Day Weekend in celebration of Romare Bearden’s birthday. The event will take place Friday, August 29 – Sunday, August 31, is free to the public and will be full of musical entertainment, dance and art. There will be featured bands on both Friday and Saturday nights with regional talent playing throughout Saturday and Sunday. There will also be at least one dance performance and a juried Art Walk. Family-friendly activities will be scheduled throughout the day. Freedom Summer Series The Freedom Summer Series is bringing jazz to Freedom Park each month. On the third Saturdays of June, July and August, regional musicians will showcase their talents while celebrating the culture and performance of jazz in a unique, outdoor setting.
