SCAM ALERT!!!!!! There are so many scams being reported that I wanted to pass along some

information to you. Please be aware of the following scams:

HEALTH CARE COVERAGE SCAMS If you receive an unsolicited call from someone saying they represent a

local, state or federal agency, be skeptical and trust your instincts. Hang

up if the individual claims to be from a government agency and:

• offers a new medical plan enrollment by asking for your current

insurance information;

• makes threats (like your existing coverage will be cancelled) or

rushes you to make a decision; or attempts to obtain banking

information from you.

Keep in mind that criminals will contact you via robocall in an effort to

steal personal or banking information. Do not give them any

information!

COVID 19 SCAMS During a legitimate COVID-19 contact tracing or case investigation,

health departments will ask about your health and request that you verify

your birthdate or address. They will also ask about and/or encourage

vaccination, if you are unvaccinated. They will never ask for social

security numbers, payment such as bank or credit card information,

or your immigration status.

In terms of COVID-related messages, calls from the state contact tracing

team will come from 866-806-3447 or MI COVID HELP so be aware of

the number calling you.

SCAMS FOR CELL PHONE USERS: • Don't assume a text is legitimate because it comes from a familiar

phone number or area code. Scammers use caller ID Spoofing to

make it appear the text is from a trusted or local source.

• Don't click on links in a suspicious text; they could install malware

on your device or take you to a site that does the same.

• Don't provide personal or financial information in response to the

unsolicited text or at a website linked to the message.

Don't reply, even if the message says you can "text STOP" to avoid more

messages. That tells the scammer or spammer your number is active and

can be sold to other bad actors.

Your connection to consumer protection is just a phone call away!

Contact 877-765-8388 to report concerns.

In Home Services have to only be about dusting your bookshelf or

pulling out the vacuum. It’s important to periodically

check safety systems in the home. These include:

Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, Fire

extinguishers (each home should have at least two),

Emergency kits (include items like antibiotic

ointment, Band-Aids, spare batteries and a current

medication list) and also an updated list of who to

call in case of an emergency

Eliminate Clutter– belongings quickly can

accumulate over the years. But having too many

possessions can make a space feel chaotic, and

worse, dangerous. Here are some tips to create a

clutter-free home when cleaning:

• Keep hallways and walkways clear. When

tidying up, make sure no items are blocking high-

traffic areas to avoid tripping hazards.

• Give every item a home. If you don’t have

somewhere to put it, either discard it or get rid of

something else to make room for it.

• Use small bins. Using small bins that can be

easily carried from room to room is a great way to

store craft supplies, wrapping accessories, cleaning

supplies and gardening tools.

• Make three piles when decluttering. Separate

items into “yes,” “no” and “maybe” piles. This can

help you organize everything from clothing to

decorations and kitchen appliances. If you haven’t

used an item in more than a year and it holds no

sentimental value, place it in the “no” pile.

Ask For Help- It is important to know your

limitations. Cleaning a home can be overwhelming

and stressful. So, don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Family members

and friends can

make the process

go more smoothly

and efficiently.

Whether it’s day-to-day chores or giving your

house a good scrub, housework can be a challenging

task for people who struggle with mobility issues,

health restraints or low energy levels. Making this

struggle worse, having a cluttered and unclean home

can lead to anxiety and stress.

Here are some helpful fall cleaning tips to make

the process easier and give you more time to do the

activities you enjoy most.

One of the first things to do before making your

home clean is to get organized. Anytime there is a

significant cleaning project that includes several

cleaning tasks, it is important to create a checklist of

what needs to be done.

Your checklist should include day-to-day or

weekly chores such as sweeping the floor and doing

laundry. But you should also consider adding these

items to your checklist to enhance the safety in the

home:

• Organize the medicine cabinet. Remove all

expired medications and ones you don’t use.

• Check your food. It’s easy to accumulate food

that eventually gets pushed to the back of the

refrigerator or cabinets. Eliminate expired food or

items that have spoiled.

• Change smoke detector batteries. The U.S.

Fire Administration recommends changing smoke

detector batteries twice a year. To remember,

consider adding this item to your list when it’s time

for your clocks to fall forward or backward.

• Update your emergency plan. Cleaning doesn’t
