The Maxeon solar cell has no grid lines on the front of the cell and absorbs more sunlight, while the conventional cells have a “Line of Metal Paste” on the front side of the cell.

Solid Copper Backing, Maxeon’s thick copper foundation, adds massive strength and is almost impervious to corrosion, while the conventional panels, with even more metal paste on the back of the cell, offer no strength, and the cell can crack and lose power when exposed to temperature swings.
Expanding and contracting from daily temperature swings are no problem with Maxeon’s thick connector and built in strain relief design, while if the conventional system’s thin, weak connections lose just one of these narrow ribbons, the entire cell fails.
