18 Aquila Theatre Company in Fahrenheit 451

Aquila Theatre presents Fahrenheit 451, based on Ray Bradbury's dystopian forewarning

of a future where literature and knowledge are oppressed to the point of near extinction.

Protagonist Guy Montag works as a fireman in a world where firemen no longer

extinguish fires, but ignite them to burn books and the houses that contain them. Written

60 years ago, Fahrenheit 451 has been the center of censorship debates since its original

publication in 1953. But despite the controversy, the novel has become a literary classic

and perennial best seller, as well as inspiring stage and screen adaptations. Aquila

Theatre is no stranger to great works of literature and brings new life to this cautionary

tale of the importance of knowledge. Pre-performance lecture begins at 7:00pm. The

American Theatre. 8:00 p.m. $25-$30. 757/722-2787. www.hamptonarts.net (125 East

Mellen Street, Hampton, VA 23663)

25 Theatre IV in Buffalo Soldier

Based on the true story of our nation's longest surviving Buffalo Soldier and veteran of

the Spanish-American War, this dramatic play with music tells the heroic story of the 9th

and 10th Cavalries. These brave horse soldiers served our country well but received little

of the recognition they deserved. In 1996, Buffalo Soldier was one of twelve plays

selected The Best American Plays for Young Audiences and has been performed at the

Pentagon in honor of African American History Month. Buffalo Soldier was developed

with support from Lila Wallace - Reader's Digest New Works for Young Audiences, a

program of the Lila Wallace - Reader's Digest Fund. Q & A following each performance.

Two leading innovators of the guitar, Alex de Grassi and Andrew York, join forces to

fuse the sounds and traditions of steel and nylon into a unique duo program. With roots in
