2. Opening Sequence 3. Camera shotsThe opening sequences starts of withclose ups and extreme close up this tellsthe audience how important theseobjects/items are . Also the close-up takesus into the mind of a character and hispreparation for this murder. the thirdscreen shoot is an extreme close up ofsomebody fingers and the reason for thisextreme close is to make the audienceuncomfortable and also gives an in sightto what the character is like as now weknow hes disturbed. 4. As you can see most of the clips areclose up or is a extreme close up . Hereis another close up but this introducesus to the theme of the film, whichreligion as the series of murders isrelated to the seven deadly sins. Theaudience will know this is important asits place in the centre. 5. EditingThe opening sequence is a montageof picture. As thrillers are supposedto cover up important informationfrom the viewer, montage is used sothe audience are made to think whatthe picture are related to and try togather up information to create theirown storyline. In this case, thepictures that are shown for examplea gun, someone cutting their skin onthe tips of their fingers and sketchesof people. All these pictures build upa image of murder. 6. SoundThe opening scene starts of with a simple beat andthroughout the sequence more sound is added. Thefirst sound we hear is non- diegetic which sounds like aheart beat as the tempo is staying at the same pace asthe music is added on top the beat is gettingfaster/louder and this tell the audience that somethingbad is going to happen and this is building tensions andcreating suspense . There is also sounds of screechingbecause its high pitch it come across as screaming thiscould represent the victim crying out for help , and thisalso add to the tension that has already been created. Also the last word you hear in the sequences is GODthis reveals more as you know that religion is a big partin the film and it the last and one of the only words inhear during the opening sequence. 7. TitlesDuring the opening sequencesnames of the composer , setdesign, hairdresser , editor ,actors and directors etc areshown . In this sequence therename are in white and on a blackbackground . The font of thenames are jagged and look as ifits been scratched , which couldrelate to the murderer and alsowhen the names come up on thescreen its flashes and disappearand this could represent thelives of the victim ending andshowing how life is short andflashes by. 8. Mise-en-scene 9. Overall Atmosphere Overall all the key micro element ( sound, editing , cinematography and mis-en-scene )addup and keep the audience at the edge of the seatas they are given an insight to the film but theimportant information is covered up, becauseof the used of montage editing. The atmosphereis creepy mainly because of the non-digeticsound which also create tension and suspense. Also the visual help create the creepyatmosphere as the director has used a lot ofclose up .
