Certification TTC’s Medical Scribe Specialist Program is approved by the American College of Medical Scribe Specialists (ACMSS). Upon successful completion of the Medical Scribe Specialist program students are eligible, through ACMSS, to sit for the MSCAT exam for the national certification. Shortcut program for pre-nursing and pre-med studentsTTC also offers a shortcut medical scribe class for pre-nursing and pre-med students which can be completed in six weeks and costs approximately $669. Students are required to have completed medical terminology and anatomy and physiology prior to enrolling so please check the website at www.tridenttech.edu/ce for more information.

Want to get in on the latest field in health care? The certified Scribe Specialist is a growing career not only in Charleston but across the country. Local physician offices are hiring scribes now. Demand for scribes is high!

Trident Technical College’s program, approved by the American College of Medical Scribe Specialists (ACMSS) prepares you for a career as a medical scribe quickly in as little as six months!

The TTC program runs twice per year – fall and spring. Upon successful completion of the TTC scribe program, students are eligible to sit for the ACMSS exam for the MSCAT national certification.

TTC CurriculumThe six-month curriculum includes the following: keyboarding, transcription, medical terminology, electronic health records, e-Clinical Works software, ethics and HIPAA regulations and 200 hours of externship in a local physician’s office.

TTC Program LengthProgram can be completed in approximately six months in a classroom setting.

TTC Program CostProgram cost is approximately $2,269 not including textbooks, vaccinations, SLED background report and testing fees.

About the CareerThe primary function of a medical scribe is the creation and maintenance of the electronic medical record, which is created under the supervision of the attending physician. The scribe documents the patient’s history and story through direct observation of the physician’s interaction with the patient at the point of care, as well as the procedures performed, the lab results and other information. Scribes serve as the right hand to the physician.
