medicteam™ is a comprehensive pre- employment test designed specifically for emergency medical technicians (emts). as members of a firehouse, EMTs are required to function within a team, living in the firehouse and working alongside firefighters. EMTs must have basic life support knowledge as well as the physical ability to lift and rescue patients, often needing to lift large patients onto gurneys and load gurneys quickly into an ambulance. medicteam effectively tests the knowledge, human relations skills, and physical abilities that are essential to successfully perform the job of emt.

medictEam Has three test componentsphysical ability test

The first component, Medic MILE™, is a physical abilities test with eight exercises designed to assess a candidate’s ability to safely perform the occupational tasks needed for success on the job as an emt. medic mile includes safely pushing a weighted gurney over obstacles on a marked course, performing Cpr at 100 compressions per minute, and lifting weights to simulate getting a gurney with a patient on it into an ambulance.

Written Exam for medical Knowledge

the second component is a 60 question written exam designed to assess a candidate’s basic life support knowledge. all test items are referenced to Brady Emergency Care, Twelfth Edition, by pearson education, inc.

FiretEam Human relations Video Examthe third component consists of the Fireteam human relations Video exam, used to assess a candidate’s ability to get along with others and work as an effective team member. it contains 76 video-based questions that test human interaction skills. this component of the test shows realistic scenarios firefighters encounter on the job and includes questions for working with the general public as well as living and functioning in a team environment inside a firehouse.

after viewing each video scenario, test takers are asked to answer multiple-choice questions regarding how they would respond to the scenario they just watched. the human relations component tests for:

test administrationadministration of the medic mile physical ability test requires a facility, such as a firehouse, with space for setting up the test course.

the medical knowledge written exam and the Fireteam human relations Video test can be administered at a facility with desks, tables, or a flat work station where candidates can take the exam. the Fireteam human relations Video test requires either a television or projector with dVd player to administer the exam. all portions of the medicteam exam must be proctored.

Quick and Easy scoringthe medic mile portion of the exam is scored pass/fail and is determined by candidate performance in eight physical activity exercises. the written exam and human relations video test are scored by ergometrics’ scoring department within two business days of receipt of the answer sheets. ergometrics scores the answer sheets, transmits test results to your department, and maintains a database of all scoring results and passing points.
