Melton South Primary School Mission:

Melton South Primary School is a progressive community who lead the way.

Together we create motivated, respectful learners who achieve excellence.

STAFF, STUDENTS, PARENTS AND CARERS ALL HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AT

MELTON SOUTH PRIMARY SCHOOL.

EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO BE SAFE EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO BE RESPECTED

EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO LEARN

Parents/carers are reminded that our school values include students, staff and members of our school community.

Staff members are more than happy to discuss any concerns you may have but you are reminded to do so in a

respectful and courteous manner. Unacceptable behaviour or abuse will not be tolerated in any circumstances.

PERSONAL PROPERTY: Personal property is often brought to school by staff, students and visitors. DET does not

hold insurance for personal property brought to school and it has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such

property. If your child brings a bike or scooter to school please also send a lock so it can be secured in the bike

shed.

GRADES 2019: Teachers devote many hours to the development of new grades, taking many factors into

consideration. If you have any specific requests, please put them into writing to the Principal marked Confidential

and hand into the office by Friday 2nd November. All requests will be given due consideration. Please note that

only requests received by this date will be considered.

To assist with this process, we ask any families/students who are moving to another area and not returning to

Melton South Primary School in 2019 to notify the school office as soon as possible. This information is critical for

class structure and staffing.

STAFFING FOR 2019: The leadership team is busy interviewing staff for 2019. At this stage we are planning the

following grades: Prep—6 grades Grade 1—7 grades Grade 2—5 grades

Grade 3—5 grades Grade 4—4 grades Grade 5—4 grades

Grade 6—4 grades

Specialist classes for next year are still being finalised.

PARENT OPINION SURVEY: Thanks to the parents that filled in the Parent Opinion Survey , I will provide results

to the community over the next couple of weeks. We use the data from the Attitudes to School Survey completed

by students, the Staff Opinion Survey and the Parent Opinion Survey to assist with planning in 2019 and beyond.

CANBERRA CAMP: At this stage we only have 11 families that have indicated they will be attending the

Canberra Camp information session tonight. This is a wonderful opportunity to ask questions about the

accommodation , places we visit and how we will be communicating with families etc. Entry for this information

session will be through the gates near the canteen or the car park at the back of the school.

PREP 2019 ENROLMENTS: If you have a child turning 5 on or before the 30th April 2019 please return a completed enrolment form to the office immediately with a copy of your child’s birth certificate and immunisation record. We look forward to seeing our 2019 prep students on Wednesday 24th October for the first prep transition. When enrolling your child, please bring birth and immunisation records.

RIDING BIKES: Students and parents are reminded that bikes and scooters are not to be ridden in the school grounds. If you ride your bike to school please get off the bike and walk it to the bike shed.

PARKING AROUND THE SCHOOL: As the school is growing larger every term, we ask all parents and carers to be

very cautious when dropping and picking students up. We are aware of the congestion in the streets and the car

park around the school and ask that everyone obeys the road rules and is patient with others.

Mrs Marilyn Costigan, Principal

BOOK CLUB: Book club orders were sent home last week. Please return all orders with payment by tomorrow Friday 19th October. For your information, parents can order and pay for their book club orders online. Refer to your book club order form for more details.

AFTER SCHOOL SPORTS: Will commence on Monday 22nd

October and finish on Thursday 6th December for students in

Grade 1-6. Sports for this term will be Soccer and Rugby. This is a

free program and students MUST attend both Monday and

Thursday sessions from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. There are a limited

number of places available for this program so the first 24

students to register will be accepted. If your child is interested in participating, please

collect a form from the office.

SECOND HAND UNIFORM: Any donations of unwanted uniform items that your children have outgrown would be greatly appreciated.

GRADE 5/6 RUGBY: Good luck to the students in grade 5/6 who will be representing our school at the Rugby Gala day on Wednesday 31st October at McPherson Park.

WALK TO SCHOOL MONTH: October is Walk to School Month. Students are encouraged to use

active transport (walk, ride, scoot, walk part of the way and skateboard) to and from school from

October 8th to November 2nd. This initiative is supported by the Melton Council. There will be

different activities happening to help promote this event. It is also a good time to discuss road

safety with your child.

DJERRIWARRH PARADE

The Djerriwarrh Parade is coming up fast on Saturday, 10th November and we are presenting “The

Rainbow Fish” by Marcus Pfister. The Art team is holding a workshop next Thursday 25th October at

3.30pm in the Art room. We are making cardboard fish for the

children to wear, so we need lots of help to complete the costumes.

Our float number is #9 and we need to be in High Street no later than

10.30am. This year Coburns Road will be closed so make sure you

have plenty of time to park your cars and walk down as it might be a

long walk.

If you and your child/ren are walking with us in the parade make sure

you have filled in a contact detail form. Children will need to be

collected at the end of the parade in Mackenzie Street like last year.

Children need to be dressed appropriately for the weather conditions.

If it is hot please ensure that students wear their school hats, have a

drink and are wearing sunblock. If it rains make sure they have a

raincoat and an umbrella.

It looks like it’s going to be an exciting day so let’s all enjoy it!!

TEETH ON WHEELS Hi Everyone, Exciting news! Teeth on Wheels will be returning to our school for the children’s 6 monthly dental visit’s. To make filling out the consent form easier you can now complete your Child’s consent form online by following the link below.

https://teethonwheels.com.au/consent-eform It only takes 5 minutes to complete and by reducing the amount of paper being used, we will be helping the team out by being more environmentally friendly. The date of the children’s dental visit will be starting on Monday the 19th of November 2018, so please ensure if you didn’t complete a form at the start of the year to have this completed ASAP! If you have any questions regarding the consent form or your child’s dental appointment please don’t hesitate to contact the Teeth on Wheels team on (03) 9338 1191.
