    I could not agree more.

Even more disturbing than that, isthe other handul o countries thatthe U.S. has had armed conict inthat most people have orgotten

Countries such as; Vietnam,Korea, Cuba, Cambodia, El Salvi-dor, Libya, Lebanon, Grenada, Pan-ama, Iraqi/Saudi Arabia, Somalia,Bosnia, and the current Iraq, andAghanistan, have all had conictand many losses o lie. Its sad anddisturbing to know that hal o theU.S. doesnt even know or care thatour military has ought and died inso many countries around the world. This memorial day I am asking youall to take time and explain to yourchildren that Memorial day is notjust a day o o school, not a day oo work, not just a day to grill out andparty but a day o remembrance, aday o thanks to the men and womenwho have ought and paid the ulti-mate sacrice or this country so that

    The Sad State

    of our State

    by Roger Sheeman

With the enormous amount o debtthe state has Democrats who arehardly willing to cut any state pro-grams enough to cut the decit arenow back to raising the so called sintaxes. They are out o ideas, aterraising the state income tax. Theyare now proposing another $1 a packtax increase on cigarettes. Its a actmore minorities smoke more thanCaucasians which would severelyhurt those low income earners. Thisis not a tax on the rich its a tax onthe poor.

They are also proposing a tax on strip clubs. In other words whenever someone would enter a strip club

they would pay a tax on top o a cov-er charge in the area o $3 to $5. Thistax will bring in an estimated $1 mil-lion dollars not to reduce the decit, but to und rape crisis centers.

The Democrats have also proposedallowing igaming, (gambling online) in the state which they saycould generate hundreds o millionso dollars. How could they prevent

someone underage gambling on line?igaming could run the casinos out obusiness and lose thousands o jobs. The State House passed a massivegambling bill on Wednesday thatadds 5 new casinos, including oneor Chicago and allows or slot ma-chines at the race tracks. Lose yourmoney twice as ast.

The legislature did pass a bill re-quiring some o the 78,000 currentretired state employees who paynothing or their health plan to paysome based on their length o serviceand their ability to pay. What these

limits are is unclear at this time. The Democrats in the State Senatehave proposed a budget that $600million more than the House budget. The Democrat plan spends more thanthe projected revenue o $33.7 billion.Governor Quinn has proposed takingabout $250 million dollars rom theIDOT road un to pay or IDOTshealth-care, workers compensation, building rent and maintenance costs. This will leave the state with about5,000 miles o roads by 2018 that aredeemed unacceptable. You thoughtthe roads were bad now just wait.

With the states current unemploy-ment at 8.9% a Senate committeeapproved a bill to raise the minimumwage to more than $10 an hour. Howmuch will Happy Meals be i this isput into law? This will negatively a-ect teen age employment which hassky rocketed during the current eco-nomic turndown. We have chased somuch business out o the state so itlooks like ast ood places are next onthe list. So long Golden Arches, TheKing and Wendy.

There also is a plan to implement

    Obamacare 2 years earlier which

could add 800,000 more people toMedicaid. They believe the statewould receive a bigger chunk ounds to help pay or Medicaid. Justwhat we need Obamacare soonerthan later. Lets hope the SupremeCourt takes care o that sometimethis coming month. How sad is itthat the very things that have chasedjobs rom Illinois, high taxes andhigh labor costs are exactly what the

Democrats are proposing more o.How sad is our state. Sad very sad.

    Speaking of

    PoliticsBy Herman Johnson

Not everyone in the media (even thegood guys) can adequately inorm thegeneral public correctly about politi-cal behavior in the United States. Iyou have noticed most o our com-

mentators and their analysts are notpolitical scientists or students o gov-ernment, and many are not journal-ists at all. Thereore, much that is inthe media are o those who speak ingeneralities according to their ownprejudices and discrimination. Ask,i possible, those who say that it is ob-vious President Barack Obama can-not run or re-election on his recordwhether or not they have any type ocollege degree, post graduate degree,or equivalent to that o Juris Doctorrom Harvard Law School. In otherwords, where and how do the criticsresearch the evidence to make anycomments at all. Surely, the criticsmust know that President BarackObama must have done somethinggreat or the entire World in order tohave received the Nobel Peace PrizeThe President's critics must knowthat Ivy Universities in the UnitedStates specialize in qualiying lead-ers to lead these United States(rom the Nation's Capitol to thesmallest Precinct). For the record,President Obama ran on the Poli-tics o Change and what is obvious(i anything is obvious) is that thereare some o those among the status-

quo who are determined to prevent

change rom happening. Speci-cally, those who control and leadthe Republican Party (who pledgedrom the day o his inauguration tomake him a one term President), theTea Party, and voters who supportthese people yet have suered undertheir policies, have united against thePresident rom day one. However, the more the right people speak outor truth, the better the nation will

be, and President will get the respecthe deserves. He denitely deservesa second term to complete thatwhich he has started. For those oyou who know the evolution o thesedays, I submit the ollowing quotes:#1 "In Germany, they came rst orthe Communists, and I didn't speak

up because I wasn't Communist. Then they came or the Jews, and Ididn't speak up because I wasn't aJew. Then they came or the tradeunionists, and I didn't speak up be-cause I wasn't a trade unionists. Then they came or the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I wasProtestant. Then they came or me,and by that time there was no onelet to speak up." Martin Niemoeller

#2 "You can ool some o the peopleall o the time, and all o the peoplesome o the time, but you can notool all o the people all o the time."Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865),(attributed)

    Job Hunting

    TipsTips rom Linked in

    1. Make timeIts easy to let job hunting allto the bottom o your to-do list, but you cant aord to let that

happen. Schedule at least 15minutes a day in your calen-dar to work on your resume, update and check online net-working proles and search joblistings. Opportunities come andgo quickly, so you need to be in thegame on a daily basis.

    2. Get noticedWhat better way to impress a re-cruiter than to have a proes-sional networking prole ap-pear as the rst search result oryour name? Completing yourLinkedIn prole to 100% with

your education, experience, recommendations and groupmemberships will increase yoursearch ranking and give em-ployers a strong impression be-ore you ever meet in person.

    3. Be keyword savvyMake sure your prole is

chock-ull o keywords that willattract a recruiters attention.Look through job postings andLinkedIn proles that appeal to youand incorporate some o the samewords or phrases. In addition to job-and industryspecic words, recruit-ers also love leadership terms (cap-tain, president) and action words(managed, designed).

    4. Reach outConnect on LinkedIn with everyoneyou know -- riends, amily, neighbors, proessors, amily riends, internshipcolleagues and others. Onceyoure connected, send eachperson a riendly message onLinkedIn, asking i they wouldkeep an eye out or the particularkind o job or jobs youre seeking ori they can introduce you to otherhelpul contacts.

    5. Spread the wordTo build your credibility and stayon peoples radar screens dur-

ing your job hunt, regularly up-date your status on LinkedInand other social networks. You might share links to arti-cles you think would be relevantto people in your eld (to showyou are up on the news), an-nouncements about eventsyoure attending (to show that

you are actively networking) andgood career news (to show thatyoure headed or success). Just re-member to keep your updates cleanand appropriate.

    6. Get into groupsBeyond connecting to individu-als, join LinkedIn groups re-lated to your alma mater, pro-essional associations, volunteer

organizations and industriesyou want to join. Every discus-sion in which you comment is anopportunity to market yourselto people who might be hiring, andevery group contains a Jobs tabwhere members post opportunitiesto one another.

    7. Search high and lowWhat makes LinkedIns job post-ings dierent rom others is thatthey dont just tell you who ishiring, they tell you how youare personally connected tothat company through your net-

work. Even when you see a joblisted on another site, LinkedIncan help you research people atthat company and tell you howyou are personally connect-ed through your network. Nomatter where you look or jobs, casta wider net by altering your searchterms and location criteria rom timeto time.

    8. Follow companiesWhen you see a job you like onanother job board, use Linked-In as a company researchtool. Check out the LinkedInCompany Page o any organi-zation where youd like to workand click Follow company. Ac-tivities o that organization onLinkedIn (job postings, hires, announcements) will appearon your homepage and alertyou to potential opportunities.

    9. Persist (without pestering)While you dont want to be a pest, persistence is a very important com-ponent o the job search process.Sending ollowup messages throughLinkedIn can help you stand out

    rom other candidates. Every time

you send someone a messagethrough LinkedIn, the recruit-er or hiring manager can eas-ily click over to your proleand check out your credentials

    10. Consider Job Seeker PremiumOnce you have a strong Linked-In prole, you want to makesure it gets to the top o recruit-ers inboxes when you apply or

jobs. LinkedIn oers an upgradeeature called Job Seeker Pre-mium that, among other ben-ets, places your prole at thetop o the list o applicants to thejobs you apply or on Linked-In. Premium subscribers aretwice as likely to be contactedby recruiters and 80% more likely tobe ound in search. Check it out athttp://www.linkedin.com/jobseeker.
