International Graphics Design MEMORANDUM To: Sarah O’Neil, Director of Human Resources From: Leah Ramirez Date: March 20, 2013 Subject: Website Recommendation for Moving Abroad As you have requested, I have researched four websites about business etiquette and cultural differences for our employees moving abroad with our new business. I have evaluated each website based on its reliability, style, tone, and design. eDiplomat www.ediplomat.com is a website designed for diplomats that includes a post report and fact page for each country with information about its geography, people, government, and economy. Reliability eDiplomat is not a reliable website. Although the copyright is up-to-date, the website does not display any authors or contributors. The website’s email address is hidden from the public and is not supported by other contact information. Style and Tone eDiplomat adapts its information from legal documents, so it has a professional and legal tone in the post report. The legal terms are hard to read, so the website disconnects from the reader. The reader is further disconnected by a series of long, wordy paragraphs without headings. Design eDiplomat’s information is shifted to the left rather than centered. The website has headings and lists in each country’s fact page, but it does not have headings or lists for the post report. The website is hard to navigate as it lacks a site index for each country. Etiquette Scholar

International Graphics DesignMEMORANDUM

To: Sarah O’Neil, Director of Human ResourcesFrom: Leah RamirezDate: March 20, 2013Subject: Website Recommendation for Moving Abroad

As you have requested, I have researched four websites about business etiquette and cultural differences for our employees moving abroad with our new business. I have evaluated each website based on its reliability, style, tone, and design.

eDiplomat

www.ediplomat.com is a website designed for diplomats that includes a post report and fact page for each country with information about its geography, people, government, and economy.

ReliabilityeDiplomat is not a reliable website. Although the copyright is up-to-date, the website does not display any authors or contributors. The website’s email address is hidden from the public and is not supported by other contact information.

Style and ToneeDiplomat adapts its information from legal documents, so it has a professional and legal tone in the post report. The legal terms are hard to read, so the website disconnects from the reader. The reader is further disconnected by a series of long, wordy paragraphs without headings.

DesigneDiplomat’s information is shifted to the left rather than centered. The website has headings and lists in each country’s fact page, but it does not have headings or lists for the post report. The website is hard to navigate as it lacks a site index for each country.

Etiquette Scholar

www.etiquettescholar.com is about dining etiquette for various occasions and settings. It includes etiquette tips for business dining and international dining.

ReliabilityEtiquette Scholar is a credible site because it has an “About Us” page that includes specific names and contact information with links to its privacy policy and terms of use. The copyright is up-to-date and it is certified by www.godaddy.com.

Style and ToneThe pages on this website are cluttered with information, pictures, and advertisements. Its information is spread along the side and in the center, so focusing on a single section is difficult. This website does not use plain language, and its tone is conversational, not professional.

DesignEtiquette Scholar overuses highlighting devices with tables, lists, and bold headings littering the

home page. Overall, this website has a distracting and unprofessional design.

CyborLink

www.cyborlink.com is a website resource for international business etiquette, manners, and culture. It covers cultural dynamics, religion, appearance, behavior, and communication.

ReliabilityCybor Link is hosted by a non-profit organization, and the home page includes a greeting from the executive director and a contact email. Although there is no author listed, the website data is credited to University of Texas at Dallas Global MBA graduates, which is a reliable source.

Style and ToneThis website’s tone is professional with plain language and additional outside sources. Each page is separated into short sections with bold headings that are easy to read and navigate.

DesignCybor Link uses highlighting tools such as colors, lists, and bold headings. Its graphics are appropriate, and there is a site index on each page with a link to the home page. The design is attractive; however, it looks more appropriate for young children than for professional adults.

Culture Crossing

www.culturcrossing.com is a website guide to cross-cultural etiquette and understanding. It includes information on basic rules for interacting with various cultures and includes sections for business professionals and for students.

ReliabilityThis website is reliable because it has links to its privacy policy, terms and conditions, press release, and a detailed “About Us” page with contact information.

Style and ToneCulture Crossing uses plain language and maintains a professional tone. Its information is presented in short lists with bold headings that are easy to read and navigate.

DesignThis website has an attractive design with an interactive map on the home page, consistent colors, and appealing graphics. The navigational toolbar is easy to find and to use, and a Google search bar on the side can be used for a fast and efficient search through the webstie.

Recommendation

After completing my research of the four websites, I believe the best website for our employees travelling abroad is www.culturecrossing.net. Culture Crossing is informative, attractive, and easy to navigate. I believe this website will benefit our employees moving abroad with our new business. I look forward to your appraisal of this recommendation.
