DISTRICT REGISTRATION:

Registration will be held March 1-25, 2011 on 4-H CONNECT for Roundup Contests (morning), Quiz Bowls (afternoon) and Senior Fashion Show & Fashion Storyboard (afternoon). There will be a one-time $2.00 4-H CONNECT fee and registration fees per person will be $3.00 for each contest entered (Morning and afternoon). A late registration period will be held March 26-28, 2011 with a late fee of $5.00.

LUNCH REGISTRATION:

Real County Volunteer Leaders will be preparing lunch for all who would like to eat! Enclosed in this packet (and also in the Roundup letter) is a form for counties to complete and mail the District Office along with the money for all registrants (agents, volunteers, parents, 4-H members, other family members). Cost for the meal will be $6.00. Lunch will be available from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. There are limited number of places to eat in Leakey, so if you plan to stay for the awards program or wish to come early and eat before afternoon contests, this would be a low cost option!!! The lunch RSVP form and money is due on March 28, 2011 to the District Office. Please send one county check for all registrations!!! Checks are to be made out to Real County 4-H. 

 

RULES: 

We will follow the State 4‐H Fashion Show rules for seniors.  The 2011 State Fashion Show 

Packet is attached and is also posted on the website at: http://fcs.tamu.edu/clothing/index.php  

 

AGE DIVISION:  Senior 4‐H members must be 14 by August 31, 2010 but not have reached their 19th 

birthday by August 31, 2010.   

NOTE: Seniors who have won 1st place at State in one division (buying or construction) are not eligible to 

compete in that division.  They can, however, compete in the other division in which they have not won 

1st place at State. 

 

COUNTY ENTRIES TO DISTRICT: 

Counties may advance 4‐H members to the District contest as follows:   

Fashion Show: (a 4‐H member may compete in only ONE category for Fashion Show) 

8 Seniors (4 buying & 4 construction) 

Counties may send as many Senior in Natural Fibers as they wish  

Natural Fibers Contest:  

This contest is for Seniors Only.  Counties may enter as many Seniors for the Natural Fiber Contest who 

meet the contest criteria for cotton or wool/mohair.  See the State rules for more information on this 

contest.   Natural Fibers is completely separate from construction and buying.  Youth may enter the 

Natural Fibers Contest only and not compete in construction or buying.  Entries in the Natural Fibers 

contest may be wool, mohair, or cotton as outlined in the state packet.

REQUIRED PAPERWORK FOR DISTRICT FASHION SHOW: 

We will follow the state requirements for the District Contest.  Information is in 2011 Clothing Program 

in State Packet.  Paperwork required for Fashion Show include:

CHANGE IN PAPERWORK JUDGING!!! PLEASE REVIEW!  The District 4‐H Fashion Show Information Sheet (paperwork) will be submitted for each Fashion 

Show contestant to the District Office for judging prior to the event.  

Paperwork must be RECEIVED IN THE DISTRICT OFFICE BY March 28!  (NOT POSTMARKED, BUT 

RECEIVED!!!) 

Paperwork will be sorted by category and age division at the District Office.  The Fashion Show 

Committee will judge the paperwork on April 4, 2011 in New Braunfels at 9:30 am. 

The judges will be required to SCORE each contestant and tabulation will be conducted, adding 

the judge’s average score to the paperwork score to determine final placing. 

Ties will be broken according to the same process used at the State Fashion Show which are 

provided in the State Fashion Show packet on pages 9. 

 

DRESSING ROOMS: 

There will be dressing rooms for both males and females.  Please do not use the bathrooms to change 

clothes for the Fashion Show so that those facilities are available for everyone.  The dressing room 

location will be provided at Registration the day of the contest.

Enclosed are maps of the Leakey ISD Campus and Leakey. 

 

AGENT PAPERWORK: 

1.  Entries  ‐ Youth must register on 4‐H Connect between March 1‐25, 2011.   Late registration will 

be open  March 26‐28, 2011 with an additional $5.00 late fee.  Entries must be certified by 

March 28! 

2.  All Fashion Show Paperwork is to be RECEIVED in the District Office by March 28, 2011! 

3.  Names and addresses of confirmed judges  – complete the enclosed Judges Assignment Form 

and return to the District Office March 28 (fax or mail).  If you can recruit more judges than 

there is space on the form, please copy the form and add additional pages.   We need judges for 

the Fashion Show and Fashion Storyboard as well as helpers for registration, dressing room 

monitors, etc.

4.  Names of senior 4‐H’ers to assist with awards program ‐ Due to District Office by March 28 (fax

5.  Be sure to work with your local schools to make sure all contestants are academically eligible to 

compete in the District Fashion Show, Fabric & Fashion Design, and Textile Show.  Even though 

the 4‐H’er may not be required to attend the event to participate in the Fashion Storyboard 

Contest, they must still be academically eligible!!!

 District 4-H Fashion Show

Staging/Modeling Responsibilities

1. Contestants should arrive between 1:30 and 2:15 p.m. in the Gymnasium.

Orientation will be held for contestants at 2:15. Once judging begins, you may begin to practice for the Style Show.

2. Groups need to find their designated seating location in the Gymnasium.

Each contestant will say their name and county, model as a group, receive awards and be seated. All Contestants need to sit inside during the Style Show.

3. Each category chairman will call out the 1st - 5th place award winners in their

category(s). (You will need to work with the each category chairman so they will know what to do).

4. You will need to post in the Gymnasium the category signs as soon as the

Roundup Awards program is concluded. This is where you will tell the contestants to line up for the Style Show. (District Office will provide signs - tape)

5. Clean stage area, help load all awards, flags, etc. back in the District

District 4-H Fashion Show

Awards Program Responsibilities 1. 4-H’ers on awards program should meet at 3:30 p.m. to go over

assignments. 2. Bring a copy of Clothing Objectives, Motto, Pledge and Prayer. 3. Lay out all awards. We will give medals for 1st place and 2-5 place ribbons,

and participation ribbons for all other contestants. 4. One of the 4-H’ers will need to hand out participation ribbons as contestants

go off stage. Give participation ribbons only to contestants who have not already received a ribbon.

5. You will need to set up PA system. We will need 2 microphones. One to

present awards from and one for contestants to say their name and county as they come on stage.

6. Set up flags, etc. 7. All left over awards, PA, flags, etc. need to be loaded back in Extension

Vehicle once Style Show is over. 8. Involve the TEEA District Chairman to invite them to assist with passing out

participation awards to all contestants. They will be instructed to be there at 4:30 p.m.

District 4-H Fashion Show

REGISTRATION COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Set up registration area in the gymnasium. 2. Check off contestants on a program as they arrive. 3. On the map, show the contestants where the dressing rooms are located.

They can have a copy of the map if they want it. 4. Remind contestants they need to practice modeling after they are judged in

District 4-H Fashion Show CATEGORY CHAIRMAN RESPONSIBILITIES (Attend orientation 2:00 p.m. in the cafeteria)

1. Check to be sure the participants are in the correct category. Be sure to call roll to

double check. 2. Do not take the whole group at one time. Only take 2-3 at one time. Remind them

to try to relax and smile. 3. Introduce yourself to the judges. 4. Introduce the contestants to the judges. 5. Contestants will be judged in county order, but if a 4-H‛er requests to be judged

early due to other commitments, work that contestant in as early as possible, and be flexible.

6. Judges will not be able to see complete group. Contestants need to practice

modeling after they are judged. 7. See that the contestants have equal time with the judges (4 minutes for Juniors &

Intermediates and 5 minutes for Seniors). Judging should be completed by 4:00 p.m.

8. Ask the judges to carefully check their scores. Double check addition before

turning them in. Remind judges to complete comments on each score sheet. 9. Sort the scorecards by contest and county order. Bring all of your score sheets and

paperwork to tabulation. 10. Go to tabulation where you will work with the tabulation committee to cut off scores

and put forms and scorecards in county packets. Bring your judges with you and do not dismiss them until results are final!

11. You will be given a copy of the results to announce winners from your group from

tabulation. Do NOT announce any results prior to the awards ceremony.

12. Clean up the judging area and turn off the lights. Take signs off doors and return

signs to tabulation room. Rooms must be left exactly as found. 13. Each category chairman will be responsible for lining their division up during

the fashion show and reading the winners in their category. You will need to come to the PA stand when your group comes on stage to model.

14. After the awards program, be sure no one has forgotten or left articles in your area. 15. It’s best not to comment to others about any contestant. You can easily be

misunderstood. 16. As the contestants are waiting to be judged, remind them that they will be saying

their name and county on the stage so they could be practicing.

District 4-H Fashion Show

CONTESTANT ORIENTATION

1. Ask contestants to sit in the row where their division sign is located. The contest chairman for your group will come here to find you for judging.

2. On the school map, show the contestants where the dressing rooms are.

Room maps will be posted. 3. Contestants should not leave after they have been judged unless they are

not able to stay for the awards program. Instruct the youth that if they cannot stay, they need to let you and the people coordinating modeling know.

4. Contestants need to practice modeling after they are judged at the Cafeteria

between 2:30 and 4:00 p.m. 5. The Awards Program will be at approximately 4:15 in the gymnasium. All

contestants need to line up with their category chairman at 4:00 p.m. 6. If contestants have to leave early, tell them to check with their division

superintendent and to ask for an early judging time. In most cases this can be arranged.

7. Absolutely NO food or drinks in the Classrooms. That includes dressing

rooms, hallways, library, band hall, etc. 8. Remind contestants to respect Leakey ISD School property. We have to

pay for any damages or rooms not put back like originally found.

2011 Questions for Fashion Show Senior

Each participant will be interviewed by a panel of judges during 4-H Fashion Show judging. Participants may be asked questions about anything related to clothing and textiles or the competition requirements that the judges wish to ask. The participants must be sure to know the eligibility requirements for the division and category they have entered, be able to answer questions about their clothing project and worksheet, and understand the characteristics of the fiber and fabric used in their competition garment(s). The sample questions below are only examples to help the participants prepare for their interview. The judges are not instructed to ask these exact questions and may ask the participant questions that are not on the following list.

1. What is the fiber content of your garment? Tell me two qualities of each fiber.

2. Are the fibers used in your garment natural or man-made? What are their generic names?

3. What is the name of the fabric used in your garment? Why is this fabric a good choice for your garment?

4. What type of weave or knit is your fabric?

5. What are the care requirements for your garment? Will the care increase the overall cost of the garment?

6a. When shopping for fabrics, patterns and notions (construction) or garments (buying), what did you consider?

6b. In your comparison shopping, what did you consider the most important thing to look for? (buying division)

7a. How did you decide which sewing methods to use for seams, hems, and so on? (construction division). 7b. What construction techniques in your garment were important? (buying division) 8. Why did you place your garment in this category?

9. What did you consider when selecting your accessories? Why were these considerations important to you?

10. How have you shared your skills and knowledge learned with others?

Congratulations on being eligible to participate in the District Senior Fashion Show.  A map to the Leakey 

ISD in Leakey, Texas  is attached. 

Parents will not be permitted in the judging area. Be sure to make a list of the accessories you need to 

bring so you don’t forget your shoes, belt, necklace, earrings or some other important item. 

 

Lunch       Lunch is on your own.  Please eat before you arrive or register for lunch that 

will be served on site for only $6.00 per person!    

Dressing rooms      There will be some classrooms designated for dressing rooms.  Please do not 

use bathrooms to change and leave clothes laying around!  

Maps & Parking      Enclosed is a map of the Leakey ISD Campus.  There should be ample parking.

 Style Show        The Style Show and Awards program will be at approximately 4:15 p.m. in 

the Cafeteria.  You will need to practice for the Style Show between 2:15‐

3:30.  We will begin lining up for the Style Show at 4:00 p.m.  Please stay 

close by because if we finish early, we will start the style show early! 

 

Absolutely NO FOOD OR DRINKS will be allowed in the classrooms of the Leakey School.  If you bring 

drinks, please keep them in the Gymnasium area.  Thanks up‐front for your cooperation with this.  

Remember  all  contestants  at  the District  Fashion  Show  are  county winners  so  the  competition  gets 

stronger.  It’s good to make up your mind to do your best, learn from the opportunity, and have fun.
