Thank you for your continued belief in and generous support of our mission. You havelived our motto, “Transforming lives, one person at a time” and over the past year,we’ve transformed as an organization. With a new look, new learning spaces, newservices, and new families brightening our centers, we have indeed entered a new era. These achievements are the results of nearly three decades of working with ourcommunity members to develop mutual trust to meet their needs. We also understandthat those needs may change and our work should be malleable.
To ensure that we can adapt to a changing neighborhood, our mission is to respond ina spirit of Mercy to the needs of the underserved in our community.
While we continue to be the heart of our Tioga community, our love and good works spread throughout thecity. Germantown has welcomed us and North Philadelphia as a whole recognizes the necessity of ourquality. Our city is changing. Our neighborhood will be defined as the “Health District” by 2030. Vibrant,civic-minded, Philadelphians are bringing solutions to the problems that have for far too long been viewedas symptoms of poverty instead of its root causes. Early intervention for our children, proper care for ourseniors, and job opportunities for our families are the best medicines we have at our disposal. Patience isrequired and the results will not be immediate, but knowing that we are surrounded by people who share ourvision will make this journey worthwhile.
In the 2019 fiscal year, donations to Mercy Neighborhood Ministries of Philadelphia, Inc. totaled $$609,920.For the fifth consecutive year, your generosity and the fiscal responsibility of our board are reflected in ourfinancial stability.
Each year, this Annual Report serves as a celebration of our achievements. Thank you for making thempossible.
In mercy,
Ann Provost, RSMExecutive Director
Letter from our Executive Director
A New Look at MercyThroughout the spring and summer of this year, the development team at Mercy worked closely with localbranding agency Push10 to refresh the overall look for Mercy. We felt, as we enter a new era of growth forour organization, it was important to reflect the changes we are experiencing with an update to our logo andmarketing. To do that, Push10 learned more about who we are through meeting with us, surveying differentstakeholders in our network (staff, volunteers, parents, etc.) and visiting our Mercy Family Center. With anopenness to where the process would take us and genuine collaboration on both sides, we have chosen alogo and look we feel captures who we are in an appealing, genuine way.
As our neighborhood and city cannot truly be described with justone word, the same can be said here at Mercy. To completelyrepresent what we do and who we are, a series of icons werecreated. On their own, they each symbolize the individual programsand aspects that make up Mercy but, together, represent the spiritof the organization. The colors and fonts are used to speak to theplayful, more comforting feeling people get when they think of us.
Early Education & Youth DevelopmentAlways looking to expand the experiences andperspectives of our students, our childcare programhas seen tremendous growth with exciting newinitiatives added to the curriculum. Our new athleticsprogramming is something we have wanted toprovide for a long time.
With initial funding from the National RecreationFoundation, we incorporated weekly fitness classesled by our partners UGOT Active Kids and soccerclinics organized by Starfinder Foundation.
STEM programming continues to thrive through ourpartnerships with SPARKmakers, River BendEnvironmental Center, and the United States Navy’sSPAWAR program.
With our first year at our Germantown location in thebooks, we continue to grow and build communityconnections for this new space.
We operate two locations in the City of Philadelphia. Both have Keystone STARS Level 4 accreditation forchildcare – the highest in the State of Pennsylvania.
We are a proud participant in Head Start and Pre-Kcounts, enabling us to bring high-quality earlyeducation to communities lacking these services.
We are licensed to serve 149 students in Pre-K and69 students in grades K-8 during the school year.
We serve over 200 students in grades Pre-K through8 during summer camp.
The apple to represent Pre-K: In the United States, specifically during the Great Depression, families ofstudents were responsible for feeding and housingteachers. Farmers often provided them with apples, just as poor families used apples as a form ofpayment for teachers in 1700s Europe.
Today, our teachers nourish the young minds of thestudents in their classrooms.

Mercy MealsThrough a grant from the The Edna G. KynettMemorial Foundation and collaborations withJefferson University and SHARE FoodProgram, we launched the Mercy MealsProgram in May to address an issue mostimportant to our neighbors - access tohealthy and affordable fresh foods. SHAREcreates and provides food packages at halfthe cost one would normally pay on ashopping trip to a traditional grocery store. Each box is filled with a variety of itemsbased on the specific box theme andseasonal availability - chicken, beef, ham, sweet potatoes, mango, watermelon, onions, mushrooms and many other items. Thisprogram has been a great value to ourneighbors, and through the generosity ofdonors like you, we have also receiveddonated boxes to distribute to families in ourcommunity.
Be Our NeighborDonate
