“What a fantastic evening…” was echoed around The Harefield Academy following the wonderful Upper School Celebration Evening on Thursday 27th November. Vice Principal, Fiona O’Sullivan, who led on the organisation of evening said that it was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our students’ achievements, staff and students alike were inspired by the success that was celebrated. Guest of Honour and Olympian, Dave Long, said that as an Olympian it was so refreshing to see the ethos of excellence, hard work and sheer enjoyment being celebrated at The Harefield Academy. “The cohesive teamwork of students, teachers, administrators, parents and backers was plain to see and deserves to be applauded." Vivian Montesano with her Jonathan Green Award for ‘Overall Achievement’ pictured
here with Mr Connolly Vivian is one of the finest students the staff at The Harefield Academy has ever had the pleasure of working with. Her truly excellent results at AS level and predicted grades at A2, is testament to her hard work and ability to carry out independent research, enabling her to write essays in a mature and confident style. Her academic success is a direct result of being able to plan purposefully, prepare thoughtfully, proceed positively and pursue her target grades persistently. She has achieved all of this while living a long way from home and working in her second language. Vivian makes everything look effortless.

We have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, and some of the best facilities a school can offer but we can only show our true colours if we all keep believing in ourselves. You work hard in school, you pay attention to those teachers and you listen to your parents, grandparents and other adults; and you always put in the hard work it takes to succeed. That’s why I want to focus on congratulating Redgrave House: to focus on continuing the responsibility each of us has in school and to achieve the best results possible. Every single one of you has something you’re good at, every single one of you has something to offer and you should be proud of this. The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential... these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.
Meet some of our talented Redgrave House students...
Redgrave House student Georgia Baker comes from a background of Acrobatic Gymnastics. She was three times British National Champion in women's pairs 2010, 2011 and 2013 and represented her club and region both in the UK and internationally. She was fortunate enough to train and appear with 'Spelbound' (BGT winners) and was part of the 2012 Olympic
essence of effort and determination. As a GCSE student she laboured for many hours voluntarily afterschool to complete extra work. Her wonderful results were a testament of her many hours toil. As a Sixth Form student she has continued her outstanding work ethic; achieving superb ASlevel grades in the summer as a result. Annabelle also recently gave up her half term holiday to work at the Brick Court Chambers in London, a crucial legal work experience placement, for her law university application. We expect great things from Annabelle and she never disappoints.
Aaron Mather with his Haig Oundjian Award for `Olympian Qualities` pictured
here with Miss Leonard To be an Olympian requires outstanding qualities and characteristics such as sporting technique and skill, commitment, focus and determination alongside being a leader and role model, inspiring future generations. Therefore the recipient of the Olympic award has to show these qualities alongside the potential to compete in such a blue ribbon event as the Olympics. This pathway is not easy and has its fair share of disappointments as well as accolades. Finding a balance between the amount and intensity of training required day after day alongside maintaining an academic focus, can lead to many potential champions falling by the wayside. Not so for the recipient of this year’s Olympian Award. Aaron has been with us since Year 7 and maintained his love for his sport Tae kwon Do. Training every week for most of his life he has honed his talent and performs to the highest level. Not content with being British or even European champion he set his sights on

closing ceremony with them. Georgia started cheerleading, after leaving Acro in 2013, with Unity Allstars Pearl (Junior Level 3 & 4). They were undefeated this season and won the title Grand Champs. This coming season Georgia will be competing with Unity Pearl and Unity Saffron, her first competition will be the Southern Regionals in January. Georgia also featured in the CBBC series 'My Team the Cheerleaders' with Unity Pearl which was an amazing experience. (Report by Mrs Baker mother of Georgia Ba
