Dear Esteemed Colleagues and Seniors,

This is my second communication to you as Chairman of Eastern India Regional Council. Last month only the financial year has ended. We the Chartered Accountants were busy in supervising the accounts preparation of the corporates. This month i.e. April we will be busy

in our Bank Branch Audit assignments. Other Auditing assignments of our corporate clients will also be taken up in this month. March – A look back - In the month of March we have organised VCMs on GST with speakers like CA Arun Agarwal, CA Vikash Banka, CA Anshuma Rustagi, CA Anchal Kapoor, CA Vivek Jalan, CA Harsh Gododia, CA Vikash Parakh, CA Jay Agarwal, CA Abhishek Tibrewal. We have also organised VCMs on Bank Audit with renowned speakers like CA Amarjit Chopra, Past President, ICAI, CA Ajay Jain, CA Dipankar Chatterji, Past Council Member, ICAI, CA Sunirmal Chatterjee. Members’ Initiative - In the last month we have taken a number of new initiatives for the members. As the month of April is the month for Bank Branch Audit, hence we have formed a Core Advisory Group to address the Bank Branch Audit query of the members. The function of this Group and how the Group can be reached is discussed in page 5 of this Newsletter.

Appeal to Members - You may be aware that the pandemic is still endangering the humanity. Vaccine has come out in our country. EIRC has taken a noble initiative to bring this vaccine to its members. EIRC has tied up with 6 hospitals at Kolkata to provide vaccination to the members and their family. Interested members may register from the link give in page 4 of this Newsletter.

Tribute - You are aware that on 5th April we have lost our beloved CA Nirupam Haldar, former Chairman of EIRC. It was an irreparable loss to EIRC as we often use to approach him for his advise as and when needed. We pray to the almighty that may his soul rest in peace.

I will appeal to all the members to take vaccination and to stay safe.

Message from Chairman, EICASA

My Dear Students,

Wishing you a very happy, healthy and blissful Poila Baishakh, Bohag Bihu, Maha Visubha Sankranti and Baishakhi

in advance. May all your dreams come true and your aspirations find bigger wings to scale greater heights in life

with each passing day. Let us also hope and pray that the new financial year ushers us into a progressive and

productive year ahead.

It gives me immense pleasure to share with you that after a considerable time interval, EICASA successfully organized a wide range

of outdoor sports activities in the month of March, 2021, which saw an appreciable participation of large number of students. The

events covered in the sporting extravaganza were 100 mtrs race, 400 mtrs race, 4*100 mtrs relay, Shot-put and long jump for boys

and girls separately. A half day seminar on recent amendments in GST was also hosted by EICASA on 4th April, 2021 at the

Institute’s Premises. Further, EICASA Speakers’ Forum conducted its very first session under the guidance and supervision of CA.

Prashant Sinha. The Forum envisages to sharpen presentation skills and provide public speaking tips including overcoming the fear

of it. Public speaking is an essential skill for your personal development and undoubtedly adds value to your career.

Dear students, please be informed that there are several events and programs scheduled to be held in the days to come. Second

session of EICASA Speakers’ Forum will be held this month. Revision classes on subjects of accounting, tax, audit and law etc. shall

be conducted for students appearing for inter and final examinations. It has also been decided to start both off-line and online

mock tests for students appearing in May 2021 term for all levels. Team EICASA has also planned to organize a number of

workshops and seminars through VCM mode encompassing subject specific topics of academic interest. I am sure such webinars

and workshops would definitely add value. A blood donation camp shall be organized in April, 2021. Please come forward to

volunteer for the camp as it is for a noble and humanitarian cause. As they say, it costs you nothing, but it can mean the world to

someone in need.

Lastly, I would want all of you to remember that being a good student is less about the ability to rote and more about the desire

to learn. Stop thinking about what will happen and start thinking about what you can do. You might have hundreds of likes on

Facebook but that won’t pay your bills! You might have tens of retweets on Twitter every day but that’s not going to pay your

mortgage! You might have heaps of unread messages on WhatsApp but that’s not going to pay for your new car! You might have

dozens of likes on Instagram that’s not going to give you the life that you dreamt for! Get a life, study hard today to realize your

dreams tomorrow.

Obituary

CA Nirupam Haldar former Chairman of EIRC in the year 2008 – 09 passed away on 5th April 2021. We pray to the

Al-mighty that may his soul rest in peace.

Brief Resume – CA Nirupam Haldar was borne in 1932 in Kolkata. He did his graduation from City college and Masters

in Commerce from Calcutta University in 1954. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1956. CA Haldar is a qualified

Cost and Management Accountant from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, London. He had passed

the examination on Information Systems Audit conducted by ICAI in 2005. He was the Chairman of Eastern India

Regional Council in the year 2008 – 09. CA Haldar worked with the Tata Group for four decades. In various capacities.

Till his untimely demise he was the proprietor of the firm N Haldar & Co., Chartered Accountants. Ca Haldar was

associated with various colleges and universities as faculty. He was the faculty of XLRI, Jamshedpur in Business

Management Programme. CA Haldar attended 3 months Senior Management Course in England organised by British

Steel Corporation (now CORUS). CA Haldar was a regular faculty in various Conferences and Seminars. His hobbies

included Golf, Philately, Swimming and Writing Letters to Editors.

Maintaining strong and spontaneous relationship with the industry and other business houses remains the main focus of the Committee for members in Industry & Business (CMI&B) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). An initiative to that effect remains the Campus Placement Programme (held twice a year) that provides a platform to both the NQCAs and the organizations looking for to hire the best available talents to fulfil their human resource requirement.
