God has promised to take care of us if we trust him with the details of our lives. As a child, if we asked our father for lunch money we never worried about where it would come from. That was his problem. “God will take care of us, we just have to have faith.” The gospel of Luke in the bible also quotes Jesus in his famous sermon on the mount. Jesus would have known that this would be an area we would need help in. 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? 26 Since you cannot do this very lile thing, why do you worry about the rest? Newsletter Issue No. 6 18 May 2018

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents and Guardians What an amazing time we had last weekend at our very first Fete and Open Day! It was a resounding success! Thank you to all the

parents, students and staff for their participation and help, making this day one to remember.

We would have had at least 500 people from the community visit the College and obtain a sense of our enthusiastic and supportive

community. I talked to many families on the day regarding the College and have had some this week commit to enrolling their children.

I must give thanks to God for the wonderful weather He provided on the day. He certainly was faithful and provided such lovely

sunshine.

Planning anything like a College Fete in a season where the weather can be unpredictable does come with a bit of apprehension. A few

weeks ago, I found myself worrying about the weather. This went on for a few days until I realised what I was doing. I was stressing

myself out over something that quite clearly I had no control over. It was a complete waste of time! I had to stop and consciously say

“That’s it – I am leaving the weather up to you God – I am going to trust that to you” (I can just imagine God having a chuckle over the

preposterous notion that I could somehow have changed things in any way.)

The word worry comes from an old English word meaning “to choke or strangle.” Of course, that’s exactly what worry does to your

productivity and happiness. It’s a self-defeating waste of time.

In his famous Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6:25–34), Jesus gave four reasons for not worrying and the secrets of overcoming it:

1. Worry is unreasonable. To worry about something we can’t change is useless. To worry about something we can change is foolish!

And every time we review a worry in our minds, it just gets bigger. Worry amplifies problems out of proportion.

2. Worry is unnatural. We weren’t born a worrier. It is a learned response to life. In fact, we have to practice to get good at it.

Fortunately, worry can be unlearned. The only species in God’s creation that worries are human beings. We don’t think God will take

care of us.

3. Worry is unhelpful. It doesn’t work. It can’t change the past. It can’t control the future. It only makes you miserable today. Worrying

about a problem never solves the problem.

4. Worry is unnecessary. God has promised to take care of us if we trust him with the details of our lives. As a child, if we asked our

father for lunch money we never worried about where it would come from. That was his problem. “God will take care of us, we just

have to have faith.”

The gospel of Luke in the bible also quotes Jesus in his famous sermon on the mount. Jesus would have known that this would be an area we would need help in. 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the

rest? Luke 12:25-31

Life is a lot easier when it is free of worry.

Yes, It’s true! I am sorry to announce it, but the once trendy ‘Walkman’, the same Walkman you spent

months saving up for and whose ‘rewind’ button you diligently wore out, is in fact ANCIENT! Why do I shock

you with this information, I hear you ask? Well, last week the primary students had the opportunity to

touch and feel some really ‘old’ stuff. A variety of ob-jects from different eras were brought in and students needed to guess what they were. This was extremely entertaining and had all the teachers feeling excep-tionally OLD! This was done to prepare the students

for our History unit this term, getting them in the right frame of mind to understand the importance of herit-

age sites and objects from our past.

I think we can all agree that our first ever Fete was a resounding success! What a fantastic day!

Such wonderful exposure and promotion of our school and its families to the wider

community. We could not have done it without the help of all the parents, students,

volunteers and sponsors before, during and after the event.

Thank you to our fantastic sponsors:

A huge thank you to our wonderful P&F. Your tireless support of our college does not go unnoticed! Thank you to all the parents and students who donated money and resources towards the event, spent hours baking and wrapping cakes, assisted with the set up and pack down, promoted the event to friends and family and helped run stalls, activities and games throughout the day. What an impressive combined effort!

Thank you to B-Ute Coffee, Mr Softserve Ice-cream, Old Macdonald’s Travelling Farm, Monsterball Amusements & Hire, Two Rocks Fire Brigade and Honeybee Jewellery for joining us on the day.

And last but not least we thank the amazing ABBC staff for sacrificing their precious weekend time (plus much much more!) and for promoting our college in the most positive way.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO DOING IT ALL AGAIN IN 2019!

Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum (KS:CPC) The DECD Child protection in schools, early childhood education and care services policy (2015) states

that ‘all children and young people in DECD preschools and schools will access the approved child

protection curriculum’.

The KS:CPC teaches children and young people to recognise abuse, tell a trusted adult, understand what

is appropriate and inappropriate touching and ways of keeping themselves safe.

Themes

The curriculum is based on two main themes which are presented through topics and activities.

Theme 1: We all have the right to be safe

Theme 2: We can help ourselves to be safe by talking to people we trust.

Focus Areas

The two themes are explored through four Focus Areas, which are examined in growing complexity in

accordance with the age of the learners.

1. The right to be safe

2. Relationships

3. Recognising and reporting abuse

4. Protective strategies.
