From the executive
Spring will soon be upon us! This
month, we have an in-class
presentation and Paska-making days.
There are also a few other dates to
note, so please ensure you check the
calendar in this newsletter.
We thank everyone who contributed
and turned out for our Open House
last month – we had a great turnout!
We are receiving registrations
regularly and remind you to get your
registration packages for next year in
early - prior to May 1st for the Early
Bird discount, but earlier is better.
Please check the calendar carefully for
Spring Break and Easter closures. We
are closed for Good Friday and Spring
Break. We wish everyone a fun and
restful Spring Break, and look forward
to seeing everyone back when classes
resume on Monday, April 4th.

Message from the teachers Last month was filled with nice and exciting events at Kalyna Kids. The
Valentine’s Day celebration of friendship and love went very well in all
age groups. The kids were very excited to participate in different
activities: to pass a ‘hot’ heart around, to look for a cupid’s arrows, to
search for a ‘broken’ heart and put it together, to decorate a cookie as a
special craft, play games, sing and dance. Everyone was happy to
exchange their valentine cards along with the words “I love you” in
Ukrainian. The teachers also got their “I love you” and thank all for the
sweet gifts and pleasant words.
Our field trip to the Sea Cavern at WEM was a lot of fun for the children.
It was well organized; the children were carefully supervised and they
behaved very well. We were happy to hear children use Ukrainian words
to name the sea creatures and fish. We thank parent volunteers for their
excellent job to help with our outing.
March is a ‘Nutrition’ month and our themes are as follows: Healthy
Food, Healthy Body and Easter preparation. The students will be making
their own paska on Tuesday, March 22 (Veselka morning class) and on
Wednesday, March 23 (Sonechko class).
Looking forward to the one of the most wonderful holidays, we wish you
a happy Easter celebration!
Sincerely,
Pani Lesia

Executive updates 2016/17 Board of Executives
Look for a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board for our 2016/2017
Parent Executive Board. Positions will be voted in at our AGM. All
incoming Executive members will be trained by the outgoing member,
and there are always former members around to offer support and
assistance. Joining the Executive is a fun and rewarding way to be
involved in Kalyna Kids and to give something invaluable back – we
simply cannot run without an active and engaged Executive Board. So
please consider joining the Executive for next year, and let us know if
you have any questions or would like more information. And we
promise that it won’t be as busy as this past year!

DROP-INS for EVENTS
This applies to class presentations, photo day, our concerts, and any other special event.
If you want to attend for a class presentation only, wait in the lobby until the teachers open the doors to let you in (please don't knock on the doors).
Your child may attend for the entire class with no drop-in fee - this is preferred, as it is less disruptive to all the students. You also are not required to fill out the Drop-in Form (we anticipate extra students on these days). However, you are asked to let the teachers know that your child is attending. This applies to Field Trips as well.
If your child normally attends in the afternoon and comes to a morning presentation or field trip, they cannot stay for the entire day, as our license does not permit this.
