The elecon of Directors will be conducted to fill three (3) posions on the Board, each for a 3 year term, including one vacancy cre- ated when Director George Nicholas sold his interval in late 2016. CALL FOR CANDIDATES (connued): A formal call for candidates will be circulated by email and posted to the Whaler TIOA website. Owners will need to submit a brief biography by March 1, 2017 to be included in the TIOA annual meeng noce and on the ballot/general proxy form scheduled for mailing in April. The Whaler on Kaanapali Beach Time Interval Owners Association (TIOA)

TIOA IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS:

Interior plantation louver doors will be completed in re-maining 12 apartments in January 2017. Contractors extend their apologies for the production delays.

Carpet replacement: 20-one and two bedroom apartments completed; 12—one and two bedroom apartments sched-uled for Jan/Feb 2017; 13 studios scheduled in the fall 2017.

Drapes were installed in March 2016. The sheer drapes were removed, hems adjusted, and re-installed.

Acrylic glasses have been added to all apartment for drinks on the lanai, pool, or barbecue.

Absorbent coasters were ordered with installation as the orders are received.

Small 1.5 oz. shampoo and conditioner will be added to the starter kit in our bathrooms.

Living room large sofa end tables will be replaced with 2 floor lamps (1 with a round glass table) in the one bedroom, two bath apartments.

An entry chest and mirror will replace the open book case in the one bedroom, two bath apartments to provide the extra storage needed and reduce clutter.

Replacement of the studio wall beds with sofa has been planned for 2017. Plans have been prepared with approval scheduled in January 2017. A mock-up will be installed to confirm comfort and operating ease before scheduling re-placement. The studio plan also includes replacement of the heavy coffee table and single sleeper.

Refrigerators will be replaced soon. A French door fridge with bottom freezer has been received and installed for testing.

A replacement fabric has been selected for the lanai chairs and lounges. Removal of the old and installation of the new chair fabric is scheduled for 2017.

Large screen TVs are pending consideration of better cabi-net options rather than modifying the existing dresser/credenza.

AOAO IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS:

Tower 2 Facing Waterfall at koi pond—completed and enjoyed by all.

Tower 2 BBQ and Ocean Entrance patio and walkway—completed.

Photovoltaic panels—completed and looking forward to reduced electricity costs in November. See roof photos on AOAO website.

Spalling repairs completed on the edge of roof during PV panel in-stallation.

Lobby—completed and re-opened December 15. Everyone who has seen it is “wowed”!

Doors/Locks and Hallway Project: The loan was approved by the majority of Owners. The plans are being finalized and notice will be given at least 6 months in advance of the start date. The tentative schedule is 2 floors every two weeks, starting mid-Aug 2017 through Feb 2018. TIOA Owners who need to relocate during the project will be reimbursed pursuant to the TIOA CC&Rs and Bylaws. The TIOA will negotiate a rate with Aston Hotels at The Whaler for each apartment type. AOAO UPDATES FROM DECEMBER BOARD MEETING:

Resort Fee Going to $20: To assist funding for our many amenities and to keep the increase in maintenance fees to a minimum, the Board approved an increase in the resort fee as shown below. Please advise your guests.

April 1-May 31, 2017 $17 per day June 1, 2017 and forward $20 per day

Budget Increase: In order to move The Whaler towards the goal of the first and best condominium resort on Kaanapali Beach, the Board approved extra staffing to provide improved front desk services and to increase the maintenance of our property. The 8.61% increase in the combined operating and reserve budget was approved for the April 2017-March 2018 fiscal year.

Maui Concierge Services (MCS): MCS has been selected as the new provider for our concierge and beach activity services. The new li-cense agreement will provide for increased revenue to the AOAO and will provide concierge services later in the day and on weekends. Beach activity kiosk hours remain the same.

New Whaler Spa: Hawaiian Rainfor-est LLC has been selected to provide our new spa services. Hair and nail service will no longer be provided. The spa is currently closed for reno-vation to provide a premier spa loca-tion. The new license agreement will generate increased revenue for the AOAO. (Photos from the Whaler AOAO.)
