From the Polynesian islanders whocolonised the vast Pacific in boats made from

hollowed logs, to the brave Apollo astronautswho thirty years ago bridged the gulf

between the Earth and the Moon, humanbeings have always had anuncontrollable urge to voyage and revealthe universe.

In this special event for National PoetryDay, children from five Bury schools will

be reading their own original verseexploring the subject of travel and

Shot at and besieged by their one-timefriends and neighbours, life for the

inhabitants of the city hangs by a silkthread from a knife-edge. Even thebatsmen of the bi-annual non-combatants cricket match are beingsniped at mid-wicket. With storiestaken from the sieges of Troy toLadysmith to Sarajevo, The BicycleBridge is a darkly comic tale of two

lovers, one second-hand gasolinesalesman and an elephant called

Henry.

One of the most popular companies on the British touring circuit,Rejects Revenge returns with a tale of lovers, elephants and a soon-to-be-dead Bob. The Bicycle Bridge is a darkly comic piece oftheatre based on the true and possibly true stories of sieges throughhistory.

In the course of progressive rock bandIQ’s 20-year career, they have

Bored by their text-books, a group of maverick academics have takena hostage. Maybe he’s a B-list celebrity, maybe she’s a DJ, maybe he’sa nobody. Maybe there’s a diary left by the hostage that tells us thetruth of the large chair, the bonds and the gaffer tape. As we seethem sitting in the darkness which they think might be some kind ofbasement, we hear them whisper; ‘Don’t laugh – this is my epitaph’.

Metro-Boulot-Dodo push their trademark humour over the ledge ofgood taste, and stretch themselves to their physical limits to anoriginal soundtrack and snatches of illicit video footage. Using real-life hostage accounts, Metro-Boulot-Dodo carry out a sinisterexploration of kidnapping and violence.
