6. Application Advice
Subsequent reinforcement of components of masonry by means of MC-DUR CF-Sheets
Manufacturer: MC-Bauchemie Müller GmbH & Co. KG, Am Kruppwald 1-8, D-46238 Bottrop
System designation: MC-DUR CF-Sheets
6.1 Areas of application
By means of CF-Sheets masonry can be durably reinforced considering this method statement. Typical areas of application:
- subsequent limitation of crack widths - lacing of pillars/columns (increase of load-bearing capacity) - subsequent seismic (base-isolated) reinforcement in earthquake areas - increase of shear bearing capacity of girders - various special applications

6.3 Application
Substrate preparation: The requirements for surfaces to be reinforced by means of CF-Sheets (max. residual moisture, surface roughness and –evenness etc.) are to be observed separately and/or indicated by the planner.
Additional requirements: Potential project specific additional requirements are to be observed.

2) Coverage rates do not include any surface roughness and/or material loss due to rebound
3) Total consumption depends on the type (weight) of CF-Sheet

7. Work steps
7.1 Substrate preparation
The structural surface to be reinforced is prepared by suitable measures, e.g. grit blasting. The surface must
be sound, dry (residual moisture ≤ 6 %) and free from grease and dust. Surfaces must be rough. A minimum surface pull-off strength of 1.0 MPa is recommended.
7.2 Repair / blowholes
Joints and damaged areas must be repaired with Epoxy resin mortar MC-DUR 1000 Parat 09 after substrate preparation. The application advice of the manufacturer must be observed.
7.3 Cutting of CF-Sheets
The uni-directional MC-DUR CF-Sheets are cut to size on site using suitable tools (e.g. scissors or cutter). Important: The CF-Sheets must not be folded!!!
7.4 Mixing of resin
The two components of the resin are mixed thoroughly for at least 3 minutes until homogeneous, using slowly rotating, anchor-shaped mixers (max. 300 rpm) to avoid trapped air during mixing. After mixing the resin is filled into a clean container (re-potting) and mixed again thoroughly.

7.5 Application of bonding coat
The thixotropic resin MC-DUR 1209 TX is used as primer for the CF-Sheets. It is evenly applied onto the prepared substrate, using a trowel, a float or similar tools. The material consumption depends on the roughness of the substrate, approx. 1.5 kg/m² to 3.0 kg/m².
7.6 Application of CF-Sheets
The MC-DUR CF-Sheets are pressed into the still fresh resin – in the required direction – and afterwards worked in using a roller or similar tools. Important: direction of application = direction of fibres!!! Exterior corners must be rounded with a minimum radius > 2.50 cm. Afterwards MC-DUR CF-Sheets can be applied around corners.
7.7 Rolling of CF-Sheets
The applied CF-Sheets are afterwards coated with MC-DUR 1209, using a roller. It must be ensured during application that the carbon fibres are completely embedded in the resin. If the CF-Sheets are applied in several layers, application is carried out fresh-in-fresh. The single layers are then pressed into the previous, still fresh layer and coated each with MC-DUR 1209, using a roller. The material consumption is approx. 0.3 kg/m² to 0.6 kg/m², dependent on the type (weight) of CF-Sheet.
7.8 Coating of CF-Sheets
The MC-DUR CF-Sheets can directly be coated with the MC surface protection systems, e.g. EmceColor-flex E/S. In case of subsequent mineral coating the fresh MC-DUR 1209 is strewn with oven-dried quartz sand, aggregate size 0.2 to 0.7 mm.
