The avenue that we know today was built in the 19th century, in the style of the Champs Elysées in Paris. Flanked by Acacia and Palm trees, strongly inspired by Paris, and the extraordinary Portuguese intricately designed pavements, the avenue extends from the Restauradores Square to the Marquês de Pombal Square, inviting one to wander around, do some window shopping and stop for a refreshing drink at one of the many kiosks found along the full length of the avenue.

The restoration of this listed building from the beginning of the 20th century, allows the architect to take advantage of the existing architectural heritage, with the rehabilitation of façades and gables including railings, masonry and the main door, as well as the entrance system and the curved roof skylight.
Based on the recoverable elements such asthe balconies, the metal frame walkway and the tiles, a project to reinvent the building was elaborated aimed at giving it new life, providing a coherent reading of such elements,both in space and time.
