Miami Sunset Senior High Curriculum
Course Offerings
Miami Sunset Senior High School offers a magnitude of classes geared towards the pursuit of Higher education and the advancement in technology. Our Medical Magnet, Engineering Magnet, Multi-Media/Communications Magnet and a Cybersecurity Magnet Programs are available for concentration of study, as well as, academies and strands for students to participate in. During a student’s ninth grade year, they begin with an entry level academy course which also covers transitional course content, helping a student transition into the high school setting. Students who complete four courses within their academy graduate as an academy completer. Additionally, we offer Advanced Placement Courses (AP) in many subject areas and we also offer the AP Capstone Program, which is an innovative diploma program that develops student’s critical skills needed to succeed in college and life. For more information, see the AGS Academy section. Dual Enrollment: Dual Enrollment is a program that allows high school students currently attending an accredited Miami-Dade County Public or Private High School or Home School Program to simultaneously enroll in a college course. The credit(s) that the student earns is used toward both high school graduation and are acceptable credit(s) toward a College Degree or Technical Certificate. Dual Enrollment is available through a partnership between Miami Sunset Senior High School and Miami Dade College (MDC). Transportation is provided to MDC during the school day. Textbooks are provided to the students who participate in the Dual Enrollment program. To be eligible for Dual Enrollment a student must: • Have a minimum of a 3.0 unweighted GPA • Be a 10th grader or Higher • Passed the appropriate sections of PERT or appropriate SAT/ACT scores • Obtain permission from Parent, Guidance Counselor and Principal Dual Enrollment forms are available in the Guidance Office. Interested students should see their Guidance Counselor to obtain the appropriate forms. For more information please visit: Miami Dade College: http://www.mdc.edu/asa/dual_enrollment.asp Dual Enrollment Courses are also offered through: Engineering Magnet Program incorporates a partnership with Embry Riddle: http://worldwide.erau.edu/locations/fort-lauderdale/ Multimedia and Communications Magnet Program incorporates a partnership with Florida International University: http://www.fiu.edu/~understu/de/index.html
