Case studiesSharePoint Implementation and Reporting Dashboard Client: Port Authority of New York & New Jersey
To supplement existing enterprise tools, Atkins designed, developed, and implemented a document collaboration system and program management dashboard for the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey using the SharePoint 2010 platform. We supported training and knowledge transfer, allowing the Authority to host the environment on their own server farm configured and managed by the Authority’s Technology Services Department.
The project consisted of three phases. In Phase I Atkins provided services for the initial implementation of the site architecture, creation of user groups and permissions, and establishment of a document library structure specifically designed to align with the new toll collection system program team organization. In Phase II, we developed customized workflows for document review and approval processes. These process management tools enhanced the collaborative environment and provided performance metrics for components of the program management effort. In Phase III, we designed and implemented the program management dashboard, providing up-to-date status of project schedule, budget, and task progress.
The new dashboard incorporates a GIS interface that provides detailed information for each lane of each facility that the Authority manages. Stakeholders of the Tunnels, Bridges, and Tolls organization can view the current status of each lane via a metropolitan New York area map that features zoom and drilldown capabilities. The dashboard also includes drilldowns to task and action item status information, views to related risk management data, and role-based permissions that link to workflows and project artifacts. The Authority’s SharePoint portal has become a vital tool for sharing information and managing key processes and overall progress of the entire new toll collection system implementation.
STARR Communication and Data Sharing Website Redesign Client: Federal Emergency Management Agency
The Strategic Alliance for Risk Reduction (STARR) was formed to provide the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s public and private stakeholders with technical flood hazard studies and related scientific, engineering, and mapping services. To facilitate communication and information dissemination, STARR redesigned their website to make it more dynamic and interactive. Because of its inherent flexibility and scalability, SharePoint was selected as the platform for the new site.
The website communicates technical content in an easy-to-understand format via blogs, wikis, forums, announcements, and maps. Site visitors can subscribe to notification alerts for content updates related to specific areas of interest.
The redesigned website not only enhances the user experience, it also provides STARR staff with the ability to update content without coding, thus increasing timeliness of updates and decreasing the cost of routine maintenance.
The STARR website takes advantage of current features in SharePoint technology, such as mapping integration and workflows, and it serves as an example of the significant efficiencies that this technology can provide both for end users and the STARR team as a service provider.
