Britain’s Official Diamond Jubilee £5 Crown!
Sure to be one of the most hotly pursued £5 coins in British history, the Royal Mint has unveiled Britain’s official £5 tribute to the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
An entirely fitting celebration of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty’s accession to the throne in 1952 – the second longest reign in English/British history,
behind only her great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria (1837-1901) – this imposing £5 Crown features not one but TWO one-year-only designs. One of the finest works of portraiture to appear on a British coin, the obverse features a majestic portrait of the Queen – a portrait rightly described as
having ‘dignity,
gravitas and bearing’. The reverse is an inspired version of the original Mary Gillick portrait of the Queen, adorned with foliage as a direct reference to Diamond Jubilee medals of Queen Victoria – the only other English/British monarch to celebrate 60 years in power.
A coin of immensely broad appeal, the 2012 £5 Diamond Jubilee BU is certain to be targeted by collector and non-collector alike. A permanent, and extremely affordable, record of this momentous occasion in British history, each 38.61mm BU £5 is beautifully presented within an informative, official Royal Mint pack.

Playing a key role in the celebration of British Royal Family milestones over the years, the Royal Canadian Mint – one of only THREE Royal Mints remaining in the Commonwealth – has naturally released coins to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II. The complete 3-coin set is now in stock at Downies!
Issued earlier this year and highlighted by a genuine Swarovski crystal set in the reverse, the extremely popular 2012 $20 Diamond Jubilee Silver Proof has now been joined by the final two issues of the series – honouring Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip and Elizabeth’s Royal Cypher respectively. Officially approved by Elizabeth II, the three 38mm 1oz of .9999 fine silver Proofs are united within an official timber case, accompanied
by numbered Certificates of Authenticity.
Sure to be targeted by collector and non-collector alike, right across the Commonwealth, we are delighted that our status as official distributor for the Mint guarantees us an allocation from the
strictly limited worldwide
mintage of 15,000.

Official 2011 Presidents Cup
tribute!
Just 1,500 struck in
RARE CROWN-
SIZED RAM
ISSUE!
One of very few crown-sized 1oz Silver Proofs issued by the RAM in recent times, this official 40mm legal tender tribute to the 2011
Presidents Cup will be targeted
by traditional Australian collectors
as much as golf fanatics seeking a permanent memento of one of the sport’s most prestigious international events.
Beginning in 1994, the Presidents Cup comprises a series of matches that sees the best golfers from the USA take on an elite international team. The event is hosted
alternately by the USA and by a country represented in the international team, and in 2011, the Presidents Cup will be held at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club – Australia’s oldest golf course, and one of the world’s best. In response to an international order, the RAM has released a variety of coins to commemorate the 2011 Presidents Cup – including this stunning full-colour silver crown!
Struck to immaculate Proof quality from a troy ounce of .999 fine silver, this official
Australian legal tender coin is distinguished by an outstanding reverse design. Superbly rendered in full-colour, the official logo of the 2011 Presidents Cup dominates the expansive 40mm diameter flan, with an intriguing dimpled golf-ball motif providing the perfect backdrop.
Even if the entire mintage of 7,500 was available to Australian audiences, the broad appeal of this coin would ensure a sell-out. As it is, the majority of that mintage – and the majority of the mintage of every 2011 Presidents Cup coin – will be spirited away to the European and US markets. With few coins set aside for Australian collectors, you must not miss this exclusive opportunity!

The RAM’s first 5oz
Silver Proof!TINY MINTAGE JUST 1,500!
An official Australian legal tender $10 coin,
the RAM’s first ever 65mm, 5oz .999 fine Silver Proof is housed in an official RAM case, complete with an official RAM Certificate of Authenticity attesting to the mintage of just
1,500
One of the biggest numismatic issues for
the year – both in literal
and figurative terms – this
sensational new Australian legal
tender coin is the very first 5oz .999 fine Silver Proof ever struck by the Royal Australian Mint!
Crafted to the height of Proof quality from a whopping FIVE TROY OUNCES of .999 fine silver, and spanning a massive 65mm in diameter, this groundbreaking legal tender $10 issue is not only notable for the unprecedented size and weight. Beautifully enhanced with the
world’s favourite precious metal, with the portrayal of the Presidents Cup trophy precisely finished in genuine 24-carat gold, the Royal Australian Mint has created a truly memorable tribute to this major international sporting event – and an exclusive one.
Seemingly a dramatic underestimation of demand, with so many Australian collectors undoubtedly keen to secure this unique, imposing type, the mintage has been restricted to an astonishingly low 1,500 coins. We believe that this meagre figure would be devastated by demand from Australian collectors alone, but alas, we will never know. The international nature of
the Presidents Cup has ensured that the US and European markets, in particular, will soak up a huge percentage of the mintage of 1,500, leaving few coins on Australian shores.
Although Downies managed to secure an allocation from the tiny mintage of the 2011 $10 Presidents Cup Selectively Gold-Plated 5oz Silver Proof, this may well be your one-and-only opportunity to add this pioneering precious metal Proof to your collection.
An affordable alternative for those seeking to snare a precious metal tribute to the 2011 Presidents Cup, the Royal Australian Mint has also unveiled a $1 commemorative struck in the traditional 25mm, 11.66g .999 silver format.
Sure to command the attention of collectors of the RAM’s Silver $1 Series as much as
golfing enthusiasts, this unique Australian legal tender coin bears the same lively, distinctive design as the Presidents Cup Al-Br $1 and 1/4oz Gold Proof – a motif that instantly catches the eye struck to the pinnacle of Proof quality from .999 fine silver.
Sure to disappear from the market, with only a tiny percentage of the 10,000-coin mintage retained in Australia, the 2011 $1 Presidents Cup Silver Proof is housed in a RAM case,
complete with an official RAM numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

The destruction of Pompeii – Tiny worldwide mintage just 250! An extraordinary legal tender tribute to the world-famous ‘Villa of Mysteries’, found in the doomed Roman town of Pompeii, this unique precious metal presentation is undoubtedly one of the finest numismatic issues ever offered by Downies. A breathtaking presentation, the complete full-colour 9-coin collection measures a huge 336mm x 41mm, and comprises 355 GRAMS of .999 fine silver!
A breathtaking collection…A compelling illustration of the finest numismatic craftsmanship, this majestic collection encompasses nine interlinked legal tender coins – each crafted to faultless Proof quality from .999 fine silver. Exquisite examples of full-colour minting, each of those coins represents one of the nine surprisingly well-preserved murals found in ‘The Initiation Chamber’ in Pompeii’s Villa of Mysteries – an astonishing series of frescoes thought to represent the initiation of a woman into the mystic cult of Dionysus. Individually superb, the nine edgeless full-colour
coins combine to form a seamless recreation of this mysterious, beautiful piece of Ancient Roman art.
An exquisite presentation…Providing long-term protection of the immaculate quality of this lavish, prestigious commemorative issue, each 9-coin .999 fine silver Proof collection is set between two sheets of thick, archival quality Perspex, and then housed within a superb outer case. Confirming the mintage of just 250, each set is also accompanied by a detailed information booklet and an individually
numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
Immediate action a must! Downies is proud to have been granted a small allocation of this dazzling collection from the worldwide mintage of 250, but, whether you pay right now or take advantage of our layby service, immediate action is a
must. With the natural predecessors to the 2011 $9 Pompeii Villa of Mysteries Silver Proof Collection – honouring da Vinci’s Codex and Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel Ceiling – blown away by worldwide demand, there is no doubt this exquisite presentation will sell out at super speed.
Pompeii –
Found within one of the most beautiful locales of the Ancient Roman Empire, along the Bay of Naples, the towns of Pompeii and nearby Herculaneum were simply wiped off the face of the earth in 79AD – completely buried beneath a downpour of ash and
pumice from the eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius.
Founded in the 7th to 6th centuries BC by the Osci, or Oscans, and brought under Roman rule in the 4th century BC, Pompeii was an important trade town, set in an area well known for its agricultural fertility. By the 1st
century AD, it was a thriving community, and the holiday destination of choice for many wealthy Romans, who built villas in the picturesque setting. By the time of the eruption, it is possible that the population encompassed more than 20,000 people – very few of whom would survive the devastating natural disaster. Raining down

victim of Vesuvius…for about six hours, the town of Pompeii was buried by approximately 25 metres of volcanic debris.
As time passed, and nature reclaimed the land where the town once stood, Pompeii was largely forgotten. It was not until nearly 1,700 years later, in 1748, that the ruins of Pompeii were found. A truly momentous
discovery, many buildings, wall paintings and other elements of life in Pompeii were surprisingly well preserved – including the Villa of Mysteries – providing archaeologists and historians with an unrivalled opportunity to create an accurate snapshot of life in the Roman Empire in the 1st century AD.

A great Australian rarity…
The first notes of Queen Elizabeth II…
Not in a position to offer this exceptionally rare high denomination note for several years, Downies is proud to present the 1924 £5 R38 Kell/Collins – a great Australian rarity, pursued by collector and investor alike.
The third £5 type, bearing the third Australian signature combination, this early note in the 1913-1965 series was issued by the Note Issue Department. Printed in comparatively low numbers, as with all high denominations,
the purchasing power of £5 during the 1920s has had a major impact on the number in existence today. With the 1920s average weekly wage around £5, few people could set high denomination notes aside, and notes such as the 1924 £5 R38 Kell/Collins are excessively rare in any grade – appearing on the market only in exceptional circumstances.
This small batch of 1924 £5 R38 Kell/Collins notes – found under the floor of a house undergoing renovations in suburban Melbourne – is an excellent case-in-point. Stashed away in the late 1920s or
early 1930s, it is likely that the economic misery of the Great Depression, and the fear of banks collapsing, would have provoked the hoarder into creating his own private ‘bank’ beneath the floorboards.
Graded Fine, with good body but slight edge faults due to the unusual nature of the storage, the 1924 £5 R38 Kell/Collins is missing from most collections. Competitively priced at A$2,450, with a note in Fine soaring
from a catalogue value of A$1,000 to A$3,750 since 2001, we have eight examples of this great Australian rarity in stock.

Whether searching for that perfect birthday, Christmas or anniversary gift, or trying to assemble a complete Australian 1910-64 predecimal set – including the rare 1930 Penny! – this is your chance. Downies has every Predecimal Coin Year Set in stock!
From the first in 1910 to the last in 1964, this collection represents a comprehensive appreciation of Australia’s first national coin series. Increasingly scarce, with many dates recognised as rare to very rare, this is not an opportunity that comes along every day. Indeed, we have not been able to offer this collection for nearly four years, and, headlined by such high-profile rarities as the 1930 1d and 1923 1/2d, it has taken many months to compile this all-encompassing selection.
The unique, sought after Edward VII silver 1910 set is offered in average
circulated quality, with the early issues of George V, struck from 1910 to 1920, in Good condition. The later George V sets (1921-36) are presented in VG, with the coins of George VI (1938-52) in F-VF, and the Elizabeth II coins (1953-64) in VF-EF.
Specifically designed to integrate with an established collection, each set is housed within archival bubble in a designer presentation pack. Offering long-term protection of your coins, and similar to official RAM Mint Sets, each informative pack is ready to wrap up as the perfect present.
An unbeatable opportunity, buy the complete Australian 1910-64 Date Collection – including the King of Australian Coins, the 1930 Penny – and SAVE A$2,124!

If the special year in your life was after the predecimal era concluded in 1966, then Downies has a set for you too! Produced in exactly the same stylish, handy format as the current Mint Sets of the Royal Australian Mint, we have every coin set from 1966 through to 1983 available in special presentation packs!
From the first in 1966 until 1983, virtually every RAM Mint Set was sold to collectors in acrylic open top wallets. In 1984, however, the RAM made substantial improvements to the presentation, with the issue of the first ‘sealed’ Mint Set. The revamp of the presentation saw the coins sealed within archival quality bubble to guard against unwanted handling and exposure to the air. The coins issued from 1966 to
1983 are not available in this format – making Downies 1966-83 Year Sets a very attractive option. Secured behind see-both-sides protective bubble, and housed in full-colour packs, our Year Sets will blend perfectly with the rest of your Mint Set collection.
Even though some of the early
decimal dates are tough to find in top grade, every coin
in every collection
is in original Mint state. The coins from 1966 to 1974 are particularly scarce in premium quality, and are defined by rising values. Better yet, the Downies Year Set Collection offers you the chance to own coin sets that were NEVER issued by the RAM! No Mint Sets were issued in 1967 and 1968, but you can get BOTH

upon the 35mm flan, each
1/2oz sterling silver Proof is complete with a Certificate of Authenticity

LUCKY LADYBIRD!
The latest in a highly original legal tender series celebrating universal symbols of good luck, we are delighted to offer the unique ‘Lucky Ladybird’ Silver Proof – each featuring a silver filigree
ladybird set in a clear capsule embedded in the 41mm flan!
Struck by the Mint of Poland
from 28.28g of sterling silver, and also featuring two full-colour ladybirds on the reverse,
the addition of the superbly sculpted silver filigree ladybird makes this one of the few coins in the world to feature moving parts. With our allocations of its predecessors – the Horseshoe and Four-Leaf Clover coins – devastated by demand, we highly recommend an early order.

ESSENTIAL US PENNY SET!
An historic, affordable presentation,
the Essential US Penny Collection forms a fantastic overview of one of the most
Genuine US memorabilia of the Wild West superstar Hopalong Cassidy, we are delighted to present this superbly sculpted
‘HC’ Hopalong Cassidy sterling silver
pendant – exclusive to Downies in Australia!
A limited edition, with a mere 1,000 ‘HC’ Silver Pendants issued worldwide, this
unique, attractive accessory forms
a wonderful memento of
one of the USA’s most
famous Wild West fictional characters – Bill
‘Hopalong’ Cassidy. Based on a literary series launched in 1904, Hopalong

Tapping into America’s rich Wild West history, and comprising nearly one ounce of 90% gold, the 1907-33 Indian Head Gold 3-Coin Set represents a unique, eminently prestigious element of US numismatics.
Comprising the 18mm 4.18g $21/2 (1908-15 & 1925-29), 21.60mm 8.359g $5 (1908-16 & 1929) and 27mm 16.7g $10 (1907-33), this key US series was inspired by President Theodore Roosevelt – the driving force behind many innovations in early 20th century America. Sought after for the powerful beauty of the superbly sculpted, highly symbolic Wild West designs – and for the unique nature of
beloved, most collected denominations in US numismatics.
From the time of the Wild West to the 21st century, the collection comprises all five different standard US penny
star of both the Silver Screen and TV, with 66 movies and an extensive TV series capturing the public imagination from the 1930s to the 1960s – and beyond. A household name in the US and right around the world, ‘Hoppy’ was played by actor William Boyd for more than three decades.
The role defined Boyd’s life – indeed, he virtually ‘became’ Hopalong Cassidy. A veritable shrine to the ever-popular heroic cowboy, Boyd’s house in Nevada was awash with Wild West memorabilia, with sculptures of Hoppy’s
the designs of the $21/2 and $5, as the ONLY US coins struck in sunken or incuse format – the Indian Head Gold series is also hotly pursued due to the rarity. Struck in very low mintages, the general rarity of these spectacular gold coins was exacerbated by the recall of all
types issued from 1859 to 2006. Headlined by the celebrated 1859-1909 Indian Head Penny, the set also features the 1909-58 Lincoln Wheat Penny, the one-year-only 1943 Lincoln
Steel
initials found all over the ranch – sculptures upon which the design of this stunning ‘HC’ silver pendant was based! An exclusive, stylish accessory, housed in a handsome timber case complete with a Certificate of Authenticity, the pendant and accompanying snake chain comprises 10 grams of sterling silver in total.
A fine acquisition for the huge number of our clients who will fondly recall
circulating gold coinage in the 1930s, with over 90% of all US gold coins confiscated and melted down by Treasury.
A wonderful opportunity to secure these rare, crucial types, the 1907-33 $21/2-$10
watching Hopalong at the cinema, and during the heady early days of Australian television, the Hopalong Cassidy HC Silver Pendant is strictly limited to an edition of 1,000.
Indian Head Gold 3-Coin Set is housed in a timber case, set within a Native American style leather pouch.
