PURPOSE
● To provide an overview of the Middle School Mathematics Program
● To review the rising 6th grade course placement procedures
● To review the 5th grade Math Teacher Evaluation Tool

Math Course Sequence
Advanced Math Sequence● Advanced 6th Mathematics
○ Compacts the 6th grade curriculum with 1/2 of 7th grade curriculum.
● Advanced 7th Mathematics○ Compacts the balance of the mathematics from the 7th grade
curriculum and all of the 8th grade Mathematics curriculum.
● 8th Grade Algebra I○ Same course as HS Algebra I○ Required to pass the Final Exam to earn credit
Rising 6th Grade ProcessMultiple factors are considered in determining the mathematics placement of students transitioning from Grade 5 to Grade 6. ● 5th Grade Performance (Unit Test scores) ● 5th Grade Benchmark Assessment scores● Standardized test scores (CogAT, PARCC (not for 15-16
placement), etc.)● 5th Grade mathematics teacher evaluation.
A notification letter informing parents of advanced math placement will be mailed prior to the start of the school year.
5th Grade Teacher Evaluation ToolA student who ________ :● Is prepared for class-including homework● Is a self-motivated learner● Perseveres in solving challenging problems● Completes assignments with a high degree of accuracy
