Teen volunteers at the library’s Fall Festival

DRESS CODE Volunteers must wear school-appropriate attire and closed toe shoes.

TEEN ADVISORY BOARD The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is made up of a group of local teens that meets once a month to discuss books and trends and develop teen library programming. Joining TAB is a great way to positively influence services that are offered to teens in the community. TAB members receive volunteer credit for attending meetings, and are informed on any available Youth Services volunteering opportunities. !To sign up for TAB, visit the library’s website or fill out an application in person.

How old do I have to be to volunteer at the library?

Why should I volunteer?

What happens if I can’t show up for my scheduled hours?

We currently accept volunteers aged 14-19.

If you need hours for Legacy scholarships, NHS, other school organizations, or just for fun.

We understand that conflicts arise. Just be sure to give us a call if you can’t make it so we can reschedule.

GENERAL RULES Volunteers must complete any tasks that a Youth Services staff member asks of them to receive credit. Cell phone use and socializing is not allowed. !If you cannot work at your scheduled time, you MUST call the children’s department at the library where you are working to let them know. You can reschedule then or call back at another time. If you do not call, you will be classified as a NO CALL, NO SHOW, and will be banned from volunteering.

Teen volunteers are frequently needed to help with special events and

programs at the library. !!

CHILDREN’S DEPARTMENT • Volunteering in the children’s

department consists of shelving books, preparing crafts, and any other tasks that the Youth Services staff may need help with.

• Hours can be served at both library locations (Downtown or Centennial) whenever that particular library is open. To sign up, you must call the children’s desk at the library where you’d like to volunteer.

• Time can only be scheduled one day in advance.

• Only one volunteer at a time will be permitted to work.

• Volunteers may only sign up for one two-hour block per day.

• After a volunteer completes their requisite hours, a Youth Services staff member will sign any documentation if necessary.

• Volunteers must wear school-appropriate attire and closed toe shoes.

YOUTH SERVICES EVENTS The Youth Services department frequently has events that require many people in order to run smoothly. In this type of volunteering, you are not limited to the two-hour block. You may sign up further in advance to work due to the amount of time it takes to plan these events.
